From the Desk of Father Raaser

Now we come to the core of the Mass: the Words of Institution, the consecration of the bread and wine into the very Body and Blood of Jesus Himself. In the words and actions of the Lord, the sacrifice He instituted at the Last Supper is celebrated once again, under the appearances of bread and wine at every Mass. He commanded that this sacrifice to be carried on throughout the ages.

In the words of Consecration, it is Christ through the priest that once again changes the bread into His Body, and the wine into His Precious Blood. “This is MY body, this is MY blood…” The priest elevates the Sacred Body and Precious Blood for all to adore and pray. Traditionally, when the Sacred Host is raised for adoration, we pray silently, “My Lord and my God.” When the Chalice is raised, we pray silently, “My Jesus, have mercy.” It is a beautiful prayer and custom to do so, it helps us to realize what is happening. The bells are rung to call us to attention. It is the most sacred part of the Mass; one must be present for these sacred moments in order to attend Mass.

The Memorial acclamation of the people is an innovation after Vatican II. The phrase “mystery of faith” however, is a very ancient phrase that appears and disappears in different manuscripts. There are three acclamations.

And then the Eucharistic prayer continues to remember the death, resurrection and ascension of the Lord; we remember our beloved dead and we remember another group of saints. In this list are a group of women saints: Stephen: The first martyr; Matthias: The man chosen to replace Judas Iscariot; Barnabas: companion of St. Paul always considered and celebrated as an Apostle; Ignatius [of Antioch]: With this great saint, we enter into the post-apostolic age and into the patristic era; Alexander: Like Ignatius, an early Eastern Bishop, The first non-martyr to appear in the Canon; Marcellinus and Peter: Like John and Paul, a pair of early Church martyr-saints. Marcellinus was a priest and Peter: An exorcist and friend and confidant of St. Marcellinus; Felicity and Perpetua: pair of martyrs—and the first women to appear in the Canon after the Blessed Virgin Mary; Agatha: A Sicilian noble, Agatha, it took two attempts to kill her; Lucy: Another famous female martyr of the early Church, patron saint for eyesight; Agnes: Of all the women martyrs, perhaps the most famous, and certainly the youngest (about 12 years of age), her name means “lamb.” Along with St. Lawrence, one of the most famous early Roman saints. St. Agnes is depicted in our window over the balcony. Our first chapel was named in honor of St. Agnes, and then it was changed to St. Margaret when we became a parish. Cecilia: Patron saint of musicians, and she was martyred in Rome in the early part of the fourth century; Anastasia: Her commemoration falls on Christmas Day, which shows the regard in which her cult was held. She was tortured and eventually killed with 270 other men and women, including her husband.

The traditional conclusion to the Eucharistic Prayer is the Final Doxology. It is a solemn statement of praise and thanksgiving, all honor and glory belong to God alone. And our response to what has just taken place in front of us is the Great Amen. We acknowledge and acclaim out loud, I believe, let it be so-AMEN. Next week, we will look at the Communion Rite. CHRIST THE KING Today is the feast of Christ the King. The politics before and after World War I, the rise of socialism, secularism and atheism led Pope Pius XI to establish this feast in October 1925. We are under the lordship of Christ the King and His vision of the kingdom of God remains the purpose of this feast. At the end of the liturgical year, it is also a good time for us to reflect on how we did this past year of grace. Are we closer in following the way of Christian life, did we grow closer to the Lord in prayer and charity? How did we do with our spiritual resolutions? Next week, we get to start anew with the First Sunday of Advent.

Talk and Discussion on the 4 Last Things

This Thursday, Nov. 29th at 9:45 AM or at 7:00 PM, I will present a talk and discussion on the Church’s teachings concerning death, judgment, heaven, hell.

In this month of November, we remember the last things of earthly life and our judgment before Christ. It is important to talk and know about these things as they help us to pray for our beloved dead and to prepare for our own death as well.

During the month of November, we continue to focus on the value of DOCILITY reflecting on how listening to others helps us to grow.

Mt 7:24 "Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who builds his house on a rock."

There's lots of exciting news to share from the past week: • 4th graders shared their interviews with a Veteran at

our daily prayer assemblies for the week before and after Veteran's Day. It's important that we never forget.

    • we hosted our first Touring Tuesday. Two families registered for this school year. Thank you Mrs, Wanamaker, Ainsley, Mrs Coakley, and Mrs. Muscatella; TEAMWORK :)

    • our school-wide Break Feast was a delicious hit. We celebrated in thanksgiving for all we have showcasing those gifts in song or skit.

We look forward with expectancy and joy to the birth of our child. As we cling more closely to one another, we commit ourselves to you, resting in conficence that this baby is in your embrace, that you will cae for our child nd for us.

We pray that each of us and our child may be your children and your beloved servants forever.

O my Divine Savior transform me into yourself. May my hands be the hands of Jesus. Grant that every faculty of my body may serve only to glorify you. Above all, transform my soul so that my memory, will and affection may be the memory, will & affection of Jesus. I pray that you destroy in me all that is not of you. Grant that I may live in you, by you and for you. so that I may truly say, with St. Paul, "I live - now not I - but Christ lives in me".

Another great resource is FORMED, an on-line program for the entire family.
