THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD JANUARY 7, 2018

From the Pastor:Dear Friends in Christ,

The Gospel of today’s Mass presents a contrast between two different ways of reacting to the presence of Christ in our lives. King Herod recognizes Jesus as a threat to his status, privilege, plans, and power. So he works to find out how to destroy the Child, while pretending that he wants to adore Him. By contrast, the Wise Men, seeing the star, allow their plans to be interrupted. They set off on a journey of search and discovery, and when they finally find the Child they were seeking, they are overjoyed. We will not find the joy we seek until we are willing to set out on a journey of faith. If we look at this life as the goal and are never willing to be led by the light of the Word, we will end up like Herod.

I need to remind everyone that our parish routines and plans will be interrupted this week as work begins on the priests’ sacristy and altar area of the church. The interior of the church will look rather plain for several months as work continues. The very last item to return to the church will be the reredos. While work is going on, we will have a temporary tabernacle in place, so the Blessed Sacrament will still be in the church.

Sincerely Yours, in Christ, Fr. Thomas Buffer
