THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 12, 2017

From the Pastor:

This week, I will be participating in a coordination meeting about the beautification of our church interior. Participants will include various contractors and the architect, working toward the goal of developing the construction calendar. The final architectural plans and engineering drawings will be ready for submission to the State of Ohio in mid-November. Soon we should be able to announce a starting date. We are very grateful to everyone who made a gift or pledge to the “Christ at the Center” campaign that has made this work possible.

This coming Thursday, I will be having rotator cuff and bicep surgery on my left shoulder and arm to repair some damage. All the doctors asked me what I did to injure my arm and I was unable to identify a specific event. All I can say for sure was that baseball was not involved. At the surgeon’s recommendation, I will take one week off and then be back in harness beginning on Thanksgiving Day. In the meantime, the Mass schedule will continue as normal, thanks to the generous assistance of retired priests and the Dominican fathers at St Patrick priory in Columbus.

Saint Mary School continues to have a great year. We have 34 more students than we did last year which is wonderful to see. If you have a child who will be starting kindergarten or first grade in August 2018, this is a good time to begin thinking about registration for the coming school year. The school staff is always happy to answer any questions you may have.

The scripture readings for this Sunday’s Mass emphasizes vigilance: staying awake and watchful. Unlike a security guard, the Christian is not staying awake to look out for criminals or the danger of fire. Quite the opposite. The Christian is advised to stay awake because something wonderful is about to happen: the return of the King. We are getting into a time of year when everyone is busy with “the holidays.” Ironically enough, all the hustle and bustle associated with Thanksgiving and Christmas can be a great distraction from our spiritual priorities. Don’t let commercial or social considerations lull you to sleep.

Sincerely Yours, in Christ,Fr. Thomas Buffer
