Advent Retreat Focuses on ‘O Antiphons’
In Western Christian traditions, the O Antiphons – which begin with a name of Christ, such as O Wisdom and O Key of David – are prayed the week before Christmas. Father Martin Iott, OP, leads an Advent Retreat, The O Antiphons: Prayers of Desire and Promise, from 6:30 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2018, through noon Fri-day, December 7, 2018 at Weber Retreat and Conference Center in Adrian. Father Martin guides participants in exploring and embracing the spirituality of hopes and dreams expressed in the Hebrew Scriptures and found in the O Antiphons. A Dominican Friar of the Southern Province, Father Martin has been engaged for 30 years in the ministry of preaching retreats and parish missions. The cost for the event – which includes meals and snacks – is $220 for commuters, $320 per person for double occupancy, and $420 for sin-gle occupancy. Registration is required. To register, visit www.webercenter.org and click on “programs.” Registrations may also be made by contacting Weber Center at 517-266-4000 or [email protected]. Weber Center is on the campus of the Adrian Dominican Sisters’ Motherhouse, 1257 E. Siena Heights Drive, Adrian. Enter the Eastern-most driveway of the complex and follow the signs to Weber Center. For information, call the Weber Center at 517-266-4000.
Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan
Today, each of us gathered here has the opportunity to
answer the call to help people in our own backyard, who
find themselves in vulnerable situations across the Archdi-
ocese of Detroit. Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan
walks with over 20,000 people each year by taking on the
effects of poverty and helping those in crisis move toward
a better life.
Some of the programs and services offered are:
• Adoption, foster care, supervised independent living
• Adult Health Care Services
• All Saints Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry
• Behavioral Health and substance abuse counseling
• Hispanic & Newcomer Outreach Services
• Project Hope
• Senior Volunteer Services
Many people in our diocese continue to face uncertainty.
Catholic Charities needs your help – our help – to contin-
ue in their mission to provide compassionate, quality, pro-
fessional services and support to those in need, all in the
name of Jesus Christ Our Lord. Please consider giving
during the second collection the weekend of November 17
-18 or visit ccsem.org.
Stewardship Thoughts
Today’s Scripture readings from the Prophet Daniel
and St. Mark’s Gospel refer to the end times —
Christ’s glorious second coming. The Letter to the
Hebrews describes Jesus’s sacrifice once for sins and
His seating at the right hand of God, waiting for
judgment. At that time, we will be asked to render a final account of our stewardship of God’s gifts to us.
Those who embraced evangelization of their brothers
and sisters, expressed through their Christian stew-
ardship by bringing souls to our Lord, will experi-
ence great joy and peace. They will enjoy a great cel-
ebration of eternal life with God in the “new heaven
and new earth.” Consider joining a local chapter of
St. Paul Street Evangelization to learn how to bring back those who have left the Church, or invite those
who do not know Christ to the Church.
