In Need of a Minister of Care Visit? Perhaps you or a loved one is unable to attend Mass, perhaps due to a surgery, chronic illness, or difficulty in mobili-ty… It is important that each parishioner knows they are a part of our community, even when not able to actively participate. Each of us is in need of Christ’s presence in our lives… Ministers of Care bring the Eucharist to the homebound and offer prayer. Also, if you or a loved one is admitted to Kish Hospital, please make sure the patient’s name is given to the hospital on admission and it will be added to the list for communion visits. Call the church office if you or a loved one is in need of the Eucharist being brought to the home. Please continue to pray for the sick and homebound.

Parishioners are invited to give an offering for Mass Intentions in the name of a deceased loved one, for the intentions of someone in need, or in thanksgiving for a blessing

received from the Lord. In accordance with Church law, only one intention per mass will be accepted for an offering of $10.00. For more information, please call the Parish Office at 815.758-5432.

Vocation Corner: Fr. Kyle Manno, Diocesan Director of Vocations "As we approach the summer people are plan-ning to go on vacations, learn new things, hang out with friends, and many other things. One thing that we cannot go on vacation from is our faith life with Christ. So as you enter this sum-mer stay close to Christ in prayer, attend mass, go to confes-sion, and consider going on a retreat.

And you are in luck! Because prayer, mass, and confession are all available right at your parish... You are in even greater luck because the vocation office will be hosting summer En-counter retreats for guys and girls from middle school through college age. These retreats are hosted by religious sisters for the girls and by the Rockford seminarians for the guys. The retreats are meant to have an encounter with Christ and to leave on fire to spread His mission out in to the world. So check out more information and register online at www.rockforddiocese.org/encounter

Stewardship

Today’s reading from Revelation offers a vision of the City of God, the new Jerusalem. “But,” the bishops’ pastoral on stewardship reminds us, “that ‘life to come’ is in continuity with this present life through the human goods, the worthy

human purposes, which people foster now.”

In the Gospel today, Jesus says to us: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.”

In the month of May, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought the love and

care of Jesus to the poor by assisting families, providing food and help for utility and rent bills.

Thank you.

Thank you for your continued support of St. Mary Church through your advertisement in our bulletin.

What is a Catechist? Catechists are volunteers who are called to serve through teaching, witness, prayer, service and building of a community. According to Pope Francis, “...catechists should be joyful messengers, guardians of goodness and beauty which should shine through in their lives.”

St. Mary Religious Ed is looking for a few good Women and Men!

Catechists, Classroom Aides and an Office Assistant are needed for Religious Education for the 2019-2020 school year! Would you like to help the children of our church families know and love Jesus more? For more information call Annalisa McMaster @ 815-758-5432 ext.110 or [email protected] Please prayerfully consider if the Lord is calling you to this ministry.

Save the Dates!! Keep checking the bulletin for more

information! Saturday, June 1st - Please join us for a Mass in appreciation of Roseann Feldman at St. Mary School at 11 AM followed by a reception. Saturday, June 8th - Movie at Sycamore Theatre: Power In My Hands (A movie a bout the bea uty and the power of the rosary).

Meals on Wheels For many years, St. Mary has supplied the “road crew” for Meals on Wheels during the days of June for the DeKalb routes. It is a 3 route service. It would be a disappointment

if we were not able to serve where needed. We are called to serve the hungry. This ministry takes about 1½ hr. to complete. We ar-rive at the Voluntary Action Center at 10:30, and are usually done by noonish. As one can see, we need 60+ routes covered. It is a ministry of great joy, not only for the receiver, but for the delivery person! Such a simple way to serve God and man. If available for a shift (M-F), in DeKalb, or if you have questions, please call Chris Hacker (815)758-5625. Leave a message if necessary, and I will get back with you, I promise! Please pray for this ministry, and for those who receive our service.

“Power in My Hands” Please join us on June 8th at the Sycamore Theatre to

watch this Powerful Movie! Sponsored by Catholic Daughters

Immaculate Conception #996

Date: June 8th Rosary: 9:30 AM Movie: 10:00 AM

Price: $1.00 (tickets available at the Parish office)

Sycamore Theatre has offered to rent the space to us for a nominal fee. Please support them by buying from their concession stand.

St. Mary Parish is looking for Youth Ministry Volunteers!

Do you like working with the youth? Do you have the desire to share your faith? St. Mary Youth Ministry - Teen Tuesday meets on Tuesday evenings for an hour and a half each week. We provide opportunities for youth to

encounter Christ, deepen their understanding of the faith and provide a place where teens can find fellowship with their peers. We currently minister to high school students. In the fall we would like to extend our ministry to include middle school students. There are a variety of ways you can help. We are seek-ing volunteers to help with: game nights, discussion nights, service projects, conferences, retreats and camp.

Volunteers can come to as many or few Tuesdays as their schedule will allow. Prayerfully consider if the Lord is calling you to this ministry. Please contact Annalisa McMaster for an opportunity to visit a Teen Tuesday event or for more information at [email protected] or 815-758-5432 x110.

God bless you!

THE VISITATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY FEAST DAY - MAY 31

Celebrated between the feasts of the Annunciation (March 25) and the Birth of John the Baptist (June 24), the feast of the Visitation originated in the Church of the Middle Ages. It was first celebrated on by the Franciscans in 1263, but the feast was instituted in 1389 by Pope Urban VI to obtain the end of the Western schism and was inserted in the Roman Calendar on July 2, the date which had been celebrated by the Franciscans. It was later assigned to the last day in May to conform more closely to the Gospel account. It recalls Mary’s visit to her cousin, Elizabeth, after the Angel Gabriel announced that she was to be the Mother of Jesus and that her aged cousin was with child. Mary traveled about six miles to be with Elizabeth. Filled with the Holy Spirit, these two great women recognized the power of God at work in their midst. “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” said Elizabeth when she saw Mary. Mary replied: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for He has looked with favor on His lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is His Name. He has mercy on those who fear Him In every generation. He has shown the strength of His arm, He has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. He has come to the help of His servant Israel For He has remembered His promise of mercy, the promise He made to our fathers, to Abraham and His children forever.”
