According to Your Word Christmas is in 5 days. Today is the 4th and last Sunday of Advent. Am I ready? I don’t mean do I have everything ready for Christmas, I mean am I ready to celebrate the birth of my Savior? Have I prepared myself, my heart, to welcome him?
In our first reading today, Samuel tells us about David who wanted to build a house for the Ark of God. David realized he was living in a beautiful palace while the Ark of the Covenant was in a tent. It wasn’t until the Lord spoke to Nathan saying, “I have been with you wherever you went…” that Nathan explained how God was with them in their hearts. God is in my heart too. Is it a worthy resting place for my God? Is it ready?
In today’s Gospel, we hear how Mary accepted God’s invitation to be the mother of God’s son. Mary was a very devout and faithful person. She was “greatly troubled” at the words of the angel Gabriel, but her response was, “May it be done to me according to your word”. What the angel told her seemed impossible. Gabriel told her “nothing will be impossible for God.” Mary accepted God’s invitation without understanding totally what was being asked of her. She was ready to do whatever God was asking. Am I ready for that type of commitment in my faith life?
We are also told that pondered the angels greeting. Mary did a lot of pondering. To ponder means to think about something carefully before making a decision. Mary pondered in her heart, the place where God is with her. I’m sure she spoke to God often in prayer asking for guidance and direction. Do I?
Let us all use these last few days before Christmas to make sure everything is ready. There is last minute shopping and preparation to make. We do not have to ignore the physical, but let’s be sure to include the spiritual. Let’s be sure to make some time for pondering and praying.
This year our celebrations will be different. Our gatherings will be smaller, maybe even virtual. No matter
what our physical celebrations look like, I know that the infant Jesus will be present. Can I give Jesus the
gift of saying, “May it be done to me according to your word?” if I spend time pondering and praying,
hopefully I can.

Según Tu Palabra La Navidad es en 5 días. Hoy es el cuarto y último domingo de Adviento. ¿Estoy listo? No me refiero a si tengo todo listo para Navidad, quiero decir, ¿estoy listo para celebrar el nacimiento de mi Salvador? ¿Me he preparado, y he preparado a mi corazón, para darle la bienvenida?
En nuestra primera lectura de hoy, Samuel nos habla de David que quería construir una casa para el Arca de Dios. David se dio cuenta de que estaba viviendo en un hermoso palacio mientras el Arca de la Alianza estaba en un toldo. No fue hasta que el Señor le habló a Nathan y le dijo: "He estado contigo dondequiera que has ido...", que Nathan les explicó cómo Dios estaba con ellos en sus corazones. Dios también está en mi corazón. ¿Es un lugar digno de descanso para mi Dios? ¿Está listo?
En el evangelio de hoy, escuchamos cómo María aceptó la invitación de Dios de ser la madre del hijo de Dios. María era una persona muy devota y fiel. Ella estaba "muy turbada" por las palabras del ángel Gabriel, pero su respuesta fue: "Hágase en mí según tu palabra". Lo que el ángel le dijo parecía imposible. Gabriel le dijo que "nada será imposible para Dios". María aceptó la invitación de Dios sin comprender totalmente lo que se le pedía. Estaba lista para hacer lo que Dios le pidiera. ¿Estoy listo para ese tipo de compromiso en mi vida de fe?
También se nos dice que meditaba el saludo de los ángeles. María reflexionó mucho. Reflexionar significa pensar en algo cuidadosamente antes de tomar una decisión. María reflexionó en su corazón, el lugar donde Dios está con ella. Estoy seguro de que ella le hablaba a Dios a menudo en oración pidiendo orientación y dirección. ¿Yo?
Usemos todos estos últimos días antes de Navidad para asegurarnos de que todo esté listo. Hay compras de última hora y preparación para hacer. No tenemos que ignorar lo físico, pero asegurémonos de incluir lo espiritual. Asegurémonos de hacer algo de tiempo para reflexionar y orar.
Este año nuestras celebraciones serán diferentes. Nuestras reuniones serán más pequeñas, incluso virtuales. No importa cómo sean nuestras celebraciones físicas, sé que el niño Jesús estará presente. ¿Puedo darle a Jesús el don de decir: "Hágase en mí según tu palabra?" si dedico tiempo a meditar y orar, espero poder hacerlo.
