. PARISH SUPPORT UPDATE

The First Collection for February 10th

amounted to $12,889. THANK YOU!

In order to meet St. Matthew’s operating expenses and save for future projects, the First Collection should bring in at least $11,100 every weekend.

Please keep in mind that the First Collection at Sunday Mass funds all operating expenses of your parish, including salaries, utilities, routine maintenance and administrative needs.

2019 Increased Offertory Program: Each year the parish asks its registered households to give prayerful consideration to their weekly support for St. Matthews. Information about the program has been made available in the bulletin, through the mail, and at Mass. Can your household increase its donation to the first collection in the new year? Because of the generosity of many households, St. Matthew’s has been able to expand its ministries and improve its facilities. Please help your parish continue with this progress.

Online giving is available at www.stmatthewspotsylvania.org.

FROM THE PASTOR

BEWARE OF “CHURCH” EMAIL SCAMS!

Dear Parishioners,

At a recent pastors’ meeting, several priests warned us about internet scammers trying to defraud parishioners using names and information obtained from parish bulletins and websites. I never contact parishioners by email, so if you receive any emails claiming to be from me and asking for a donation or financial help of any kind, please do not respond to it and let me know about it. No member of the parish staff will ever solicit donations via email. Please let us know if you receive any suspicious communications claiming to be from St. Matthew’s.

Yours in Christ, Fr. Eversole VOCATIONS

“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.”

Are you considering a vocation to the priesthood, diaconate, or consecrated life? Contact Fr. Michael Isenberg: [email protected] or (703) 841-2514.

Employment Opportunity with St. Matthew’s Music Program!

The parish is seeking an Organist to accompany and support our choirs and cantors. Applicants should possess competent pipe organ skills, a knowledge of liturgical norms regarding music and singing, and an interest in working with volunteer singers and musicians. Availability for serving at funeral, wedding and holy day liturgies is necessary. This is a part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week) and will begin in July. Salary commensurate with skills and experience.

Those interested should send a resume to Father Eversole at the Parish Office (no emails, please). The Job Description is available on the parish website (www.stmatthewspotsylvania.org) and at the Parish Office.

Let us pray

This prayer reminds us that we have a wonderful advocate and protector in the mother of our Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary. In our prayers to her we honor and worship her Son, who is more than happy to listen to His mother’s pleas on our behalf. This prayer invites us to ask the Blessed Mother for her assistance and her grace, especially when we feel most troubled in our daily lives. The name of the prayer is the Latin word for remember:

REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

What is the name of this prayer? Let Mrs. Warren know and win a prize.

Peace of Jesus Christ, Joanne Warren

He is called the Rock, the Fisher of Men, and Head of the Church. But how did Peter, a rustic fisherman, come to deserve such honor and authority? Join Stephen Ray as he follows Peter

from Galilee to Jerusalem to Rome. Along the trail you'll discover answers about the infallibility of the Pope, papal succession, the truth of Catholic teaching, and much more! And you'll see why Jesus chose this simple fisherman and his papal successors to be the Keepers of the Keys and Shepherds of the Church.
