Sixth Sunday in Easter

Reading I

Acts 8: 5-8, 14-17

Peter and John laid hands on them,

and they received the Holy Spirit.

Reflection: From our understanding of the

early Christian community, their life

flourished with the gifts of Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit was known by the laying

on of hands. It is a gesture we use in

celebrating the sacraments of Baptism,

Confirmation, Ordination and Anointing

of the Sick. We too know the power of the

Holy Spirit in our lives. Do I live with the

Spirit of God in me?

Psalm 66

Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

[Alleluia]

Reading II 1 Peter 3: 15-18

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT: The very heart of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church is Jesus Christ present on the

altar. Our mission, born at that altar, is to be sent forth into our neighborhood in order to

build up the Kingdom of God. The labor of this effort must address in deed more than in

word the needs of our people.

Put to death in the flesh, Christ

was raised to life in the Spirit.

Reflection: If Jesus Christ is the Lord of our

hearts, we live with great hope. Living with

Jesus overcomes the trials and tribulations of

this world. His way is not shameful, but a

way to holiness. Do I live in His way as a

follower of Jesus?

Gospel

John 14: 15-21

I will ask the Father and

He will give you another Advocate.

Reflection: In this discourse from John’s

Gospel, Jesus does not desire his followers to

feel alone. He does not leave us ‘orphans’

but the Holy Spirit speaks and acts on our

behalf. The Spirit unites us to live in faith,

even when we are socially distancing. Do I

live in the Love of Jesus with others?

Archbishop Carlson has resumed public Masses in

the Archdiocese of St. Louis beginning May 18.

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.

Body of Christ, save me.

Blood of Christ, inebriate me.

Water from the side of Christ, wash me.

Passion of Christ, strengthen me.

O good Jesus, hear me.

Within your wounds, hide me.

Permit me not to be separated from you.

From the wicked enemy defend me.

At the hour of my death call me,

bid me come to your side, that with your

saints I may praise you forever and ever.

Amen

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Archbishop Carlson announced that

parishes are permitted to resume regular

public Masses on Monday, May 18, at the

discretion of each individual parish pastor.

The Bishops of Missouri established common

practices for the celebration of Mass. As we

continue our efforts to protect one another

from the serious effects of the coronavirus:

Dispensation of the obligation to attend

Sunday Mass continues until further notice.

Symptomatic parishioners or those exposed

to another with the virus should not come to

Church.

Appropriate cleaning, sanitizing and hygiene

before and after each Mass is necessary.

+ Archbishop Carlson

Our Parish Staff and the members of the

Spiritual Life and Worship Commission

will evaluate the guidelines and safety

requirements before creating our parish

protocol for Mass. We will announce in the

weeks ahead when Mass can resume and

include the necessary safety protocol.
