ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH
Every October the Catholic Church in the United States celebrates Respect Life Month,
and the first Sunday of October is observed as Respect Life Sunday.
As Catholics, we are called to cherish, defend, and protect those who are most vulnerable, from
the beginning to the end of their lives, and at every point in between. During the month of Oc-tober, the Church asks us to reflect more deeply
on the dignity of every human life.

Posthumous portrait of Christopher Columbus by Sebastiano del Piombo, 1519
In popular myth, Christopher Columbus
is the very symbol of European greed and genocidal imperialism. In reality,
he was devout Catholic concerned first and foremost with serving God and his
fellow man. Read more: Columbus: the Real Story by Steve Weidenkopf

In today’s readings, we discover that material wealth alone does not
keep us from discipleship. We will see that there are other gifts more important than material wealth, but even so, it is how we use our gifts that matters most. Today’s scriptures point to the value of the gifts of wisdom, trusting in God, and letting our actions reflect the love of God from within. It is not gold that causes us to fall, but rather the desire for gold above all other things. From the readings in Wisdom and Hebrews, we find the source of God’s gifts in our lives. Wisdom is more valuable than worldly posses-sions. In Hebrews, we are challenged to look at our own values and admit honest-ly what controls our lives.Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

O Most Holy Virgin Mary, Queen of the most holy Rosary, you were pleased to ap-pear to the children of Fatima and reveal a glorious message. We implore you, inspire in our hearts a fervent love for the recitation of the Rosary. By meditating on the mysteries of the redemption that are recalled therein may our parish families obtain the graces and virtues that we ask, through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer.
g Please pray a daily Rosary in your homes and after or before mass in all our churches.
