Stewardship Good—No—GREAT News!

We received two pieces of great news we wanted to share with you! 1. We have received a letter from the Archdiocese notifying us that we have been awarded a $10,000 Grant for the purchase of new tables and chairs for Higgins Hall!

The James P. Scott Capital Improvement Endowment Fund maintained by the Catholic Community Founda-tion provides ongoing annual support to projects throughout the Archdiocese.

For the spring allocation period of the 2016-2017 grant year, the Archdiocese awarded 18 grants totally over $440,000. For the full year, the Archdiocese was fortunate to be able to make combined grant awards totaling over $880,000 to parishes, schools and agen-cies in the award process.

2. In addition to this wonderful news, we have ALSO received a $15,000 grant from the Center for Congre-gations toward our Capital Campaign!

Many thanks to the Archdiocese and the Center for Congregations, and special thanks our Development Director, Tara Doyon, for all of her hard work to make this possible!

Parish News

New Faces!

Joining us effective August 1 will be Tim Gregson, our new music director. Tim and his family, wife Melissa and chil-dren Mina, Xander, and Nicholas are moving here from Wisconsin. where Tim was the Choral Director at

Assumption Catholic School in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.

Tim has a rich and varied background in music, work-ing as a Director of Worship and Music, Choir Master/Accompanist, Cantor, Vocal Instructor, and more.

Tim and his family are very excited to move to Bloom-ington and become part of the St. Paul Catholic Cen-ter family!

By now most of you have probably had an opportunity to meet our new Associate Pastor, Fr. Joseph Minuth, O.P.

Fr. Joseph hails from El Paso, Texas. Fr. Joseph loves Texas, as Texans tend to do, but he is really enjoying Bloomington. Father loves biking, hiking, football, basketball, baseball, plays, and opera—could he be in a better place than Bloomington? He thinks not! He also likes home brewing beer. Boy, is he going to be popular!

Father Joseph has been a priest for six years and has served in Indiana (at Purdue!!) and Columbia MO at Mizzou and other Universities and Colleges. Father created partnerships to connect undergrads with after-school programs, senior centers, and homeless shel-ters. He is happy to learn of St. Paul Catholic Cen-ter’s long history of collaboration with and outreach to organizations that support families and individuals in need.

Father Joseph speaks a little bit of Spanish and a whole lot of German. As our Associate Pastor, his main focus will be with the RCIA program, Graduate Students and Young Adults, and the Hispanic parish-ioners of St. Paul Catholic Center, and assisting with our service programs.

We’re not completely sure, but Fr. Joseph may be a spy for the United Federation of Planets. Next time you see him, just say “Heghlu’ meH QaQ ja-jvan” (Klingon for ‘have a nice day’) and see if he turns his head. Thanks.

Oh, you know what’s REALLY been helping Fr. Jo-seph? The Parish Picture Directory! If you had your picture taken, YOUR copy of the Picture Directory will be here in just a couple of weeks. If you did NOT have your picture taken, and are still feeling miserable and kicking yourself for missing this great opportunity, do not despair! You have ONE LAST CHANCE! We’ll have a picture day set up in November. Same great deal as before. So—to summarize: 1. If you had your picture taken for the picture direc-

tory, you will receive your directory in a couple of weeks.

2. If you did not have your picture taken, you will have an amazing make-up opportunity in Novem-ber.

3. If you had your picture taken, but want another one (new baby, fabulous new haircut—any reason whatsoever!) you can have your picture taken again!

Worship Parish News Update on Joe Leighton

Over the Memorial Day Weekend, parishioner Joe Leighton successfully underwent the lung transplant

essential to save his life.

You all were truly an ans wer t o t he Leighton family’s prayers.

Your kind donations and prayers made this possible. Additional prayer and donations to help Joe and his family with continuing

medical bills during his recovery would be greatly ap-preciated. If you would like to send Joe a “Get Well” card, please drop it off at the parish office. We will collect them and “shower” him with our best wishes for his quick and complete recovery.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Gone, But CERTAINLY Not Forgotten! Our Father Raymond-Marie has packed up his U-Haul and headed up to Ottowa, Canada to study canon law (and be even SMARTER than ever). He will miss us every bit as much as we miss him! He hopes you’ll keep in touch!

Parish News

O ur weekly Bible Study is reading and dis-cussing Paul’s letter to the Romans. We meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-

8:30pm downstairs in the Stephens Room. Please join us! You are most welcome.

A Note From Coffee & Donuts Ola’ meus amigos!

We’re in Brazil now, and that’s Por-tuguese for “Hello my friends!” Por-tuguese is similar to Spanish—they share many of the same words, such as “amigo”, but it’s a separate language. Brazil is a beautiful country and a really BIG country—

Brazil is the 5th largest country in the world by both land area and population—and we’re having an amazing time biking around different towns. We’ve had a great visit with our South American cousins, Café and Buñuelos! Boy, that Brazilian coffee is GOOOOOOD!

Buñuelos look kind of like Donut Holes. They are bite sized balls rolled in flavored syrup, sprinkled in cinnamon sugar, and served with warm honey. They symbolize good luck. I think that comes from “good luck eating these without getting sticky!” They are super delicious!

Next stop: Northern Africa! Tchau!

See you on September 10!

Getting to the ROOT of the Problem... Calling all gardeners, peo-ple with a deep-seated distaste for weeds, and anybody willing to wield a weed whacker! We are once again asking our outstanding parishioners to donate a few hours of their time to weed and mulch the flowerbeds by the patio and the Children’s Memorial Garden. We’ll shoot for Saturday, July 15 beginning at 8am (coolest part of the day) and if the weather is stormy, we’ll make Saturday, July 22 our “rain date.” Please bring your own gardening tools, Mulch provided, along with snacks, water and coffee!

Women’s Bible Study Ladies of the parish are invited to attend our weekly Women’s Bible Study. We meet every Thursday downstairs in the North Meeting Room from 9:30am to Noon. Discussion, prayer, and, of course, Bible Study!

Many, Many Thanks from

St. Vincent de Paul To Our Supporters;

We have looked for more words than just these two “Thank You”, as they don’t seem to cover what you have accom-plished with your wonderful support of our annual Hog Roast and Beer Garden Fest! So, here goes...We: recognize you, express our thanks, our gratitude, and our deep appreciation to our sponsors, our parishioners, our entertainers and volunteers, and to all those attending this fundraiser that allows us to help our clients for the remaining months of summer and into the fall.

And so, we do Thank You from the bottom of our hearts!

With blessings,

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Monroe County
