St. Paul Campus Ministry Wednesday Dinners!

Help us with Campus Dinners each Wednesday at 5:20pm in the All Saints’ Fellowship Hall. If you can provide an entree, a side dish and dessert, that would be wonderful. But we also want to

encourage you to pick a side dish or dessert to bring to pair up with someone else's entree. A new sign up sheet with additional dates from January-May 2018 are available now in the Narthex. Sharon and Bill Engle are the go-to people for scheduling - we'll help them out by letting them know of your willingness to help! And...plan to eat with us! It's good community time and you get to know the

students!

10 biblical ways to love

1. Listen without interrupting. “To answer before listening — that is folly and shame” (Proverbs 18:13). 2. Speak without accusing. “Be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry” (James 1:19). 3. Give without selfishness. “The righteous give without spar-ing” (Proverbs 21:26). 4. Pray without ceasing. “We have not stopped praying for you” (Colossians 1:9). 5. Answer without arguing. “Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife” (Proverbs 17:1). 6. Share without pretending. “Speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of … Christ” (Ephesians 4:15). 7. Enjoy without complaining. “Do everything without grumbling or arguing” (Philippians 2:14). 8. Trust without wavering. “[Love] always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” (1 Corinthians 13:7). 9. Forgive without punishing. “Forgive as the Lord forgave you” (Colossians 3:13). 10. Promise without forgetting. “A longing fulfilled is a tree of life” (Proverbs 13:12). —From various websites; all Scriptures NIV

St. Paul Lutheran Church,

Thank you, all of you, who worked to prepare the wonderful basket

of food delivered to me. It just happened that I was especially

hungry when it came so I began eating immediately. Such an

assortment of good things---luscious cookies, fresh fruit, candy,

etc.

I am not sick I am not a shut-in so I don’t think I deserve it. I am up

there in age, probably the reason. It is so thoughtful. I appreciate

it.

God Bless, Edythe Huber

To My St. Paul

Church Family,

Thank you for the

lovely Cheer Basket.

The fruit and other

items were delicious

and very much

appreciated.

Our Lenten discipline begins with Ash Wednesday. This year, Ash Wednesday

“competes” for our attention against the backdrop of the Hallmark

sentimentality of Valentine’s Day. That St. Valentine died as a martyr creates

an interesting juxtaposition between his witness and the ashen symbol of the

cross, reminding us that following Jesus is a costly endeavor.

The smaller liturgical seasons (Advent, Lent, Easter) seem particularly

well-suited to create space in our hearts for beloved hymns. As I anticipate this Lenten season, I

reflect upon both text and tune of my favorite seasonal hymn: My Song Is Love Unknown (hymn

tune: RHOSYMEDRE). The text is wed to a different hymn tune in the Evangelical Lutheran

Worship hymnal, but this is the tune I personally prefer. The English composer Ralph Vaughn

Williams composed a stunning arrangement of the tune for organ, and I have fond memories of

hearing it played by my dearest organist friend at the dedicatory recital of the newly installed

organ at a former congregation.

The text recounts the events leading up to Jesus’ arrest, conviction and crucifixion, as the

witness observes the narrative. More than simply telling the story, the witness places him/herself

at each station:

Sometimes we strew his way and his sweet praises sing;

resounding all the day hosannas to our king.

Then “Crucify!” is all our breath,

and for his death we thirst and cry,

and for his death we thirst and cry.

We cry out, we will have our dear Lord made away,

a murderer to save, the prince of life to slay.

Yet cheerful he to suff’ring goes

that he his foes from thence might free,

that he his foes from thence might free.

It is an expansive vision of boundless love! Christ takes our human existence upon

himself and fulfills a vision for love that defies human understanding! Forty days are set apart

on the liturgical calendar for us to contemplate this amazing gift of life given so that life for us

might be restored!

The love we recall this Valentine’s Day is of a greater depth than we have ever known. It

is the best day to remember that we are dust and ash and that God loves us so deeply that God

makes himself dust for our sake. It is Gospel, it is grace upon grace, it is a Word that truly sets

us free!

Our family is heading to Haiti in one week on February 5th till March 15! Please pray for us!

I wish that I would have sent this update sooner, as you can see we added a new addition to our family last year! Moses Alexander was born July 14 of last year and has to be the sweetest, most content baby I have ever met! We are so thankful! Zacharie's mother, Madamn Vide ("Mama" to most of you!), was here visiting this past summer and got to be here for the birth and Moses' first two months of life. It was special to share that time with her here in the states!

Zacharie was in Haiti this past September for 2 weeks leading a team with Cindy and pre-paring the children in our sponsorship program for school. I, Stevie, stayed home with the kids and have not been to Haiti in almost a full year! Needless to say, I am so excited to head down so everyone can meet Moses and to love on Katheline! She just turned 9 years old on January 23rd and is one smart cookie, being the top of her class! We are so proud and quickly began to love her like she's our own.

Many people ask us why we are still spending so much time in the states...

so I wanted to share why - Zacharie is here on a US residency which requires him to be in the country for at least 6 months of the year. After 3 years of having your residency you can apply for US citizenship - which was this past October for Zacharie! We began the pro-cess in December and have already been through the fingerprinting process. We are hope-ful to have another letter waiting for us when we get home (or to receive it soon after) with a naturalization test/interview date! We were told the process takes 6-12 months so we're praying we won't have any complications and that we'll be done with immigration soon!

Another common question we get is: Why does Zacharie want American citizenship? Well, I can say that he does not WANT it as he is very proud to be Haitian but unfortunately it is a necessity for our family. With 3 out of 4 of us already being US citizens it makes the most sense for this to happen. Not only will it make it easier with traveling to/from Haiti it will also give our children more opportunities in the future. This means that Zacharie will lose his Haitian citizenship as Haiti does not do dual citizenship. But he's learned to accept this

and knows he will always be in Haitian in his roots

(I've had to remind him of this a couple times!)

What will we be doing in Haiti this time you may ask...

Though it has been a long road of planning, building, and fundraising since 2013 we are thankful to have had the opportunity to work here in the states and save money for our family and our HOUSE! Woot woot! Thank goodness we are finally beginning construction of our house! Can you tell that I'm excited? When we are down we have all of us and our things in one room so with our growing family it's getting to be pretty tight quarters! It's been exciting to draw up blueprints and make plans as it's a big step for our family!

We do not have teams coming down during our stay with the exception of Cindy traveling down with My Momma for the last 10 days of our trip. I am beyond thrilled to be able to share this part of my life with her and I know she can't wait to meet Katheline and the rest of Zacharie's family!

We will keep busy with construction of our home (Zacharie hopes to finish our foundation while we are there), but we hope to also find opportunities for new ministry in our area. My heart goes out to the parent's who ask us to take their children. We hope that in the future we can find ways to empower them whether through finances, employment, or encouragement . We are praying that God opens our eyes to the needs in our community and for ways we can improve them and share his love at the same time.

Thank You for your love and support these last couple years. Words can not express our full gratitude!

With Love, Zacharie, Stevie, Abraham, & Moses Estime

Who are we?

The Loft was started in response to the Penn Manor School District social workers needing a readily accessible place to store and receive food for students and their families. We have since expanded services to include anyone who lives within the Penn Manor School District. Our desire is to provide a place where people can get what they need, give what they can and grow together.

At The Loft we realize that all people, at some point in their lives, are faced with needs-whether physical, emotional or spiritual in nature. Yet, at the same time all people have some sort of abundance that they are able to give of—whether it is relational, time, talents or financial in nature. This is why The Loft provides the opportunity to both give and get, all within the same context in hopes that as a community we will all grow together.

When is The LOFT open? Wednesdays 6-8 p.m.

Sundays 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Where is The LOFT? The Loft is located at the

Millersville Church upper entrance Millersville Church 3116 Blue Rock Road, Lancaster, PA 17603

Who does The LOFT serve? The LOFT

serves those living in the Penn Manor School District.
