These brand guidelines provides a framework for consistent application of the school’s visual identity which, in turn, communicates the brand truths of St Paul’s Girls’ School.

St Paul’s Girls’ School has a distinct ethos: independent; liberal; innovative, with the adventure of scholarship at its core. The school does not expect all communications to be identical but rather an expression of the ethos, within the structure of these guidelines.

The St Paul’s Girls’ visual identity and that of the international schools is fundamental to communicating the right message and tone for those who may not know the schools. All communications should be consistent and reflect the school ethos and brand truths both in content and presentation.

At the heart of St Paul’s Girls’ School visual identity is the wreath.

It is embedded in the heritage of the school and is held in high regard by the students and the wider school community. It is therefore only right that the wreath is also the key identity for the International Schools.

This section explains how to use the SPGS International logo for use on materials in regards to the Holding Company.

SPGS International Holding Company

This logo is to be used by the parent company only and should not be used by the individual international schools for any communications or marketing purposes.

It has been designed for use by members of staff of the Holding Company and has limited uses which include stationery, business cards and email signatures.

The Holding Company logo should always be used as per the supplied artwork file. The wreath and word marque should always be used together and never separated.

Clear space and recommended sizes

There should be an exclusion zone around the logo which is based on the height of the word marque. This is to prevent the logo being used too close to other elements, which would compromise its clarity.

Minimum size for print is 13mm wide.Minimum size for digital use is 55px wide.

File formats for printAlways use a vector .ai or .eps file for printed materials especially for large format, as the logo can be scaled without losing quality.

File formats for digital useJpg or Png file formats are best used for online materials and for use in Microsoft packages.

Where the Holding Company is required to partner another organisation please ensure the logo is used at a size that is legible. A vertical rule is recommended for use between the SPGS International and any other logos.

A classic and distinct font, Gill Sans Nova should be used in all communications as the primary typeface. The font family provides several weights – Gill Sans Nova Book should be used for body text.

Other weights – Light, Medium, SemiBold and Bold can be used for emphasis of content such as headings, quotes and pullout messaging.

Noto has been designed by Google as a universal font. It has been designed to be visually harmonious across multiple languages, with compatible heights and stroke thicknesses. This can be used for translating Chinese text where Gill Sans and Lucida Bright are not available.

Protecting the integrity of the logo and what not to do

It is important not to change any element of the logo or adjust it in any way. It should always be used as one element and the supplied files should not be altered in any way.

DON’T:1. Alter the position of the elements, nor resize them

or typeset the words.

2. Change the colour of the elements.

3. Use any effects on the logo eg. drop shadows.

4. Use images or colours behind the logo that render it illegible. Some images may require some retouching to create a clear space for the logo.

Using the logo on social media

Due to restrictive sizing, the wreath may be used on its own for use on social media. The wreath should be used on the Red Amber background, in a circle or square, dependent on what social media platform it is for.

Red Amber is the foundation colour for the Chinese schools branding. Through consistent application, the colour palette will become an essential tool in building a distinctive and recognisable set of brand communications.

Where possible, use the Red Amber and SPGS Grey as they best reflect the London and Chinese schools. The other colours in the secondary palette can be used to complement the primary colour and create visually engaging design.

Where possible use the logo at the top of the banner for maximum visibility. Copy should be kept to a minimum and where applicable secondary colours may be used eg. as part of a set of banners. Only use one hero image per banner for maximum visual impact.

Printed materials

It is preferable to use one hero image rather than multiple images on front covers, posters and leaflets where possible. Images should be natural and reflect the co-educational environment of the school.

In some instances multiple images may be used – please ensure that the legibility of the logo is not compromised.

The Red Amber should be used as the primary colour and complemented by the secondary palette only. Always use the logo on front covers/pages – at the top if possible.

On inside pages of a brochure it is permissible to use the wreath to hold key words.

For wayfinding signage try to use icons wherever possible as they can work to a universal language. Signage should utilise the SPGS Grey (90%) black as this reflects a modern, clean design.
