Reflecting on God’s Word Certain questions change lives, depending on our answer: “Do you take this person to be your husband/wife?” “Do you want this job?” “Can you forgive me?” The question Jesus asks today is one that certainly changes lives. Our response is not simply an academic exercise, a matter of knowing the right answer we learned from a book. Our answer must lead to a commitment that is to be lived out each day of our lives. Peter’s answer certainly changed the course of his life. Jesus recognized that it was not Peter’s innate knowledge, or that of any other person, that had given Peter his re-sponse: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” It was the Father. And so Jesus declares that Peter will be the one to lead the other disciples and all who would come after. Simon, son of John, fisherman, husband, brother—and one who would deny he ever knew Christ!—he was to be the rock on which Jesus would build the church. His response was life-changing. Peter’s answer was not a perfect one, as we shall see next week. Even so, Jesus accepts it as an indication that his Father is at work in those called to be with him who would continue his work. The Father chose to work in fallible human beings. We may not think of ourselves as rocks, but the future of the church depends on how well each one of us lives out the answer to this question, “Who do you say that I am?” —James A. Wallace, C.Ss.R. Living God’s Word We pray that our loving Father will bring us to a deeper knowl-edge and understanding of his Son Jesus. We ask that this un-derstanding will lead to a deeper commitment on our part to the work of Jesus to bring about in our own day the reign of God in our world. ADORATION

Every Tuesday St. Peter’s will have Adoration of Jesus in the

Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel.

We invite anyone who wants to join this prayerful and fruitful ministry to do so. Adoration is a dedicated hour

of quiet prayer and/or spiritual reading with Jesus. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the

monstrance on the altar during this time.

Adoration will begin right after

Tuesday morning Mass (approximately 7:30) and continue

throughout the day for as many hours as we have Adorers.

Scheduling of hours is an important and necessary part of Adoration. If you wish to participate, please call Becky Finley at the parish office at

822-3367 or Karol Sweitzer at 829-5459.

We are always in need of Adorers.

ALTAR SERVER TRAINING

The roll of altar server is very important to the normal celebration of the Mass. Father would like to have at least one altar server at Saturday evening and Sunday Masses to help him with the celebration of the Mass. What does an altar server do? Altar servers carry the processional cross, hold the Roman Missal for the priest, carry the incense and censer, assist the priest when he receives the gifts from the people, present the bread, wine and water to the priest dur-ing the preparation of the gifts, wash the hands of the priest and assist the priest and deacon as necessary. Who can be an altar server? Girls and boys who have received holy communion for the first time and receive the Eucharist whenever they participate in the liturgy are invited to serve. Altar server training is held on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. in the church, or by appointment. For more information please call the church office @ 210-822-3367.

You are invited to become a registered parishioner in the parish. Please do not take for granted that you are registered just because you attend Mass here.
