“…come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest awhile.” (Mark 6:31)

Do you spend time, every day, alone and in silence

listening to how God is calling you? If not, you are missing out on a wonderful

opportunity to develop a more personal relationship with Him. Unless we talk and more importantly,

listen to God every day, how else will we know how He is calling us?

Consider making a retreat this year, spend some “alone” time with God.

¿Pasas tiempo, todos los días, solo y en silencio

escuchando cómo Dios te está llamando? Si no, te estás perdiendo una maravillosa oportunidad de desarrollar

una relación más personal con él. A menos que hablemos y, lo que es más importante, escuchemos a

Dios todos los días, ¿de qué otro modo sabremos cómo Él nos está llamando?

Considere hacer un retiro este año, pasar un tiempo "solitario" con Dios.

Dios ama a un buen pastor

Salmo 23 … es número uno en cuanto al gusto de los Salmos. Él que más piden para funerales, y la popularidad viene de la familiaridad. Pero, ene un mensaje de paz y cuántas imágenes de tranquilidad: Dios se presenta como pastor, uno que sostenga, guarda, guía, y un anfitrión amable. ¿Quién no

le gustaría un compañero así a su lado, especialmente cuando uno pasa por una cañada oscura? No habrá razón de sen r miedo, y nada le falta. Pastores ….fueron los primeros que se presentaron cuando Jesús nació. Su primeros discípulos fueron de otra vocación …pescadores; pero Jesús se iden fica con el papel del pastor: a buscar a los descarriados, a atender a las necesidades de la gente, a separar las ovejas de los chivos en el juicio final (chivos enden a ser más testarudos!), y nos entrega su ministerio con estas palabras: “Alimentan a mis ovejas.”

God loves a shepherd

Psalm 23 …it’s number one on the top ten list of psalms. The most requested of the psalms at funerals, and familiarity creates popularity. But it’s the comfor ng message and the imagery of peacefulness: God is presented as shepherd, sustainer, guardian, guide, and gracious host. Who wouldn’t want a companion like that at their side, especially when going through a dark valley. No reason to fear, and nothing to want. Shepherds …they were the first on the scene when Jesus was born. His first chosen disciples were from another profession …..fishermen…, but Jesus iden fies himself in the role of shepherd: to seek out the lost sheep, to tend to the needs of the people, to separate the sheep from the goats in the final judgment (goats tend to be much more strong-willed than sheep!), and he passes on his ministry with the words, “Feed my sheep.” “Come away.. and rest ..

Development Corner Thank you for IRA Contributions! A big thank you to two parishioners who have recently made contributions to St. Philip from their retirement accounts! In many such instances, these gifts are related to a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) that is a consideration for a person who reaches age 70-1/2. Making a charitable contribution with a portion of your RMD is often a wise financial move, particularly now with the higher standard deduction figure that often limits the opportunity to deduct charitable contributions from your income taxes. Contact Bill Noel in the parish office (468-7848) for general information, or your financial or tax advisor regarding your specific situation.

A NOTE FROM THE DIOCESE OF GREEN BAY:

We are looking for volunteers for an ecumenical service project for several of our area public

elementary schools. The project is called City Serve School Care Day and will take place on

Wednesday August 29th, 2018 from 8AM to noon.

We need volunteers to help with everything from bulletin boards,

classroom decoration and arrangement to clean-up and sorting

and distributing supplies/textbooks.

City Serve is an ecumenical group that helps local churches impact our community with the

love of Christ through different denominations coming together to serve others.

Some of the schools we will be helping are Sullivan

Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Fort Howard Elementary, Elmore Elementary, Nicolet Elementary

and Early Childhood Center.

If you are interested in signing up to help or getting more information, please see
