TODAY’S READING

First Reading — God delivered Israel from Egypt. All the

people celebrated pass-over with unleavened cakes and

parched grain in their new land, the promised land .lowing

Psalm — Taste and see the goodness of the Lord. (Psalm 34,

2-3, 4-5, 6-7)

Second Reading — We are ambassadors for Christ and min-

isters of reconciliation to one another. We must all be recon-

ciled to God so that we might “become the righteousness of

God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5: 17-21)

Gospel — Jesus told his followers the parable of the prodi-

gal son. It is never too late to repent, to be received back by a

loving father, and to enjoy his presence forever. (Luke 15:

FATHER MARTIN’S CORNER

SUNDAY REFLECTION: Going closer to Easter as we accompany our brothers and sisters into their entry to the Church and reception of the Easter Sacraments, the Gospel of John 9:1-41 (Year A) is worth reflecting once again on this Fourth Sunday of Lent. St. John narrates to us the man born blind. He also wants us to see the gradual development of his faith. The conversa-tions and dialogues in the Gospel are very inter-esting. In order to heal the blind man, Jesus made a clay with his saliva and smeared the clay on his eyes. As you can observe, this healing is different from other healings because Jesus made use of something to cure the illness of the un-named man. On this Sunday, I would like you to pay attention to the details of the conversation, the interrogation, the reasoning and feelings, the characters involved and the faith of the blind man. Identifying ourselves with the blind man, may we stand firm in times of trials and danger to know more about Jesus and recognize him as our Lord and Healer with open heart and strong faith. VIRTUE CORNER: Sincerity comes from the Latin words, sine which means without and cera which means wax. It literally means without wax. Etymologically, sincerity means “clean, pure, sound and unmixed.” Sincerity is, there-fore, trustfulness in words and actions; honesty and enthusiasm, towards others. When we relate to people, we deal with them with purity and hon-esty. To be transparent to people. Just as the man born blind truthful to others about his heal-ing, so too are we to be transparent and truthful no matter what. We share some details of our life to someone we trust. As followers of Christ, we are to be sincere in our words and deeds with-out any grain of deception and pretensions. SAINT FOR VIRTUE OF SINCERITY:

Vincent Ferrer lived around 1350-1419 A.D. As a Domini-can friar, he loved the people to whom he preached. He was so concerned about the sincerity of their relationship with God that he was not afraid to tell them boldly about the evil of sin. Because they knew of his kindness and sincere interest in their

souls, many heeded Fr. Vincent’s warnings, con-verted, and lived holy lives. His feast is celebrat-ed on April 5. PRAYER FOR SINCERITY: Dear Jesus, please give me the grace to be honest in all my words and actions. When someone is speaking, give me the patience to listen attentively. Grant what my heart’s desire to long for you!

REFLEXIÓN DEL DOMINGO: Acercándonos a la Pascua mientras acompañamos a nuestros hermanos y hermanas a su entrada a la Iglesia y la recepción de los Sacramentos de Pascua, vale la pena reflexionar una vez más el Evangelio de Juan 9: 1-41 (Año A) en este Cuarto domingo de Cuaresma. San Juan nos nar-ra al hombre ciego de nacimiento. También quiere que veamos el desarrollo gradual de su fe. Las con-versaciones y diálogos en el evangelio son muy in-teresantes. Para sanar al ciego, Jesús hizo un barro con su saliva y untó el barro en sus ojos. Como puedes observar, esta sanación es diferente de otras curaciones porque Jesús usó algo para curar la enfer-medad del hombre anónimo. En este domingo, me gustaría que presten atención a los detalles de la con-versación, el interrogatorio, el razonamiento y los sentimientos, los personajes involucrados y la fe del ciego. Al identificarnos con el hombre ciego, podemos permanecer firmes en tiempos de pruebas y peligro para saber más acerca de Jesús y reconocerlo como nuestro Señor y Sanador con un corazón abierto y una fe fuerte. RINCÓN DE LA VIRTUD: La sinceridad proviene de las palabras latinas, sine que significa sin y cera que significa cera. Literalmente significa sin cera. Etimológicamente, sinceridad significa “limpio, puro, sano y sin mezcla.” La sinceridad es, por tanto, confianza en palabras y acciones; Honestidad y en-tusiasmo, hacia los demás. Cuando nos relacionamos con las personas, tratamos a ellos con pureza y hon-estidad. El ser transparentes a las personas. Al igual que el hombre que nació ciego y sincero a los demás acerca de su sanación, también debemos ser trans-parentes y sinceros. Compartimos algunos detalles de nuestra vida a alguien en quien confiamos. Como se-guidores de Cristo, debemos ser sinceros en nuestras palabras y acciones sin ningún tipo de engaño y pre-tensiones.

SANTO VIRTUD DE LA SINCERIDAD: Vicente Ferrer vivió alrededor de 1350-1419 A.D. Como fraile dominico, amaba a las personas a quienes predicaba. Estaba tan preocupado por la sinceridad de su relación con Dios que no temía decirles del mal del pe-cado. Debido a que sabían de su amabilidad y sincero interés en sus almas, muchos escucharon las advertencias de Padre Vicen-

te, se convirtieron, y vivieron vidas santas. Su fiesta se celebra el 5 de abril.
