EL AMOR QUE TRANSFORMA

La experiencia de ser discípulos tiene como punto de partida la conciencia de fe de saber que Jesús, nos amó primero. De aquí se sigue el deseo de conocerlo, seguirlo, amarlo e imitarlo. Vivir como El vivió y hacer lo que El nos pidió: “El pasó haciendo el bien” (Hech. 10, 38). Por ello, los laicos como seguidores de Cristo, han de seguir tras sus huellas, amando como Él amo. Y, así como desde los primeros tiempos los paganos quedaban admirados por el amor que manifestaban los cristianos para con todos los hom-bres (un amor sólo podía tener como fuente al mismo Dios), así hoy en día en nuestra Iglesia ha de bril-lar la presencia de Dios en nuestro obrar. Somos discípulos del Maestro si nos amamos los unos a los otros (Jn. 12, 34-35). Vivir desde esta convicción es más importante que cualquier plan pastoral (NMI 43) o cualquier proyecto misionero. Hemos de actuar con un espíritu que destaque particularmente la parresía, es decir la valentía, el coraje, la audacia, la fortaleza, en el anuncio del Evangelio.

¿Qué consecuencias puede tener esto en nuestra vida?

El sabernos hijos de un mismo Padre, hermanos en Cristo que servimos a la Santa Iglesia. Por tanto nos ayudamos, hablamos bien los unos de los otros, apoyamos las iniciativas de los otros hermanos, tanto sea con la oración, con el interés, con la presencia física o, al menos mediante una adhesión, etc.

Esto cambia el rostro de nuestra Iglesia, nos hace sentirnos una sola familia, permite verificar y pon-derar las divergencias porque en ellas nos sabemos complementarios y nunca competitivos y éste es-píritu la gente lo percibe y de ese modo aprende a vivir según el Evangelio.

Por otro lado es la mejor forma de preparar el camino de la fe para tantos hermanos nuestros que no creen. Jesús esto se lo pedía al Padre: “que ellos sean uno como tu Padre está en mí y yo en ti. Que ellos sean uno en nosotros para que el mundo crea” (Jn. 17,21).

Este estilo de vida de caridad después se contagia a las comunidades y a las familias. Estamos convenci-dos que la virtud de la caridad transforma más la sociedad cuando se traduce en obras que cuando se queda meramente en discursos. “La comunión se abre a la misión, haciéndose ella misma misión […] y la misión es para la comunión”. (CH.F.L. 31-32). La caridad vivida desde la alegría que de ella misma nace, nos lanza a la misión porque: “no podemos callar lo que hemos visto y oído” (Hec 4, 20).

Hemos de saber que la conversión personal y pastoral despierta la capacidad de someterlo todo al ser-vicio de la instauración del Reino de la vida (366). En el caso particular de los laicos esta conversión su-pondrá una mejor preparación para intervenir comprometidamente en los asuntos sociales (400. 403. 406). “Aunque imperfecto y provisional, nada de lo que se pueda realizar mediante el esfuerzo solidario de todos y la gracia divina en un momento dado de la historia, para hacer más humana la vida de los hombres, se habrá perdido ni habrá sido vano”[2]. Este compromiso social no excluye, sino que asume la atención humanitaria y pastoral de aquellas personas que por múltiples motivos han de dejar su lugar de pertenencia “También se requiere promover la preparación de laicos que, con sentido cristiano, profe-sionalismo y capacidad de comprensión, puedan acompañar a quienes llegan, como también en los lugares de salida a las familias que dejan” (413). ¡Feliz Pascua de Resurrección! San Agustín escribe: “Resurrectio Domini, spes nostra,” «la resurrección del Señor es nuestra esperanza,» (Sermón 261,1). Con esta afirmación, él explicaba a sus fieles que Jesús resucitó para que nosotros, aunque destinados a la muerte, no desesperáramos, pensando que con la muerte se acaba la vida. Cristo resucitó para darnos la esperanza. Una de las preguntas que más angustian nuestra existencia es precisamente ésta: ¿qué hay después de la muerte? La Solemnidad de hoy nos permite responder ese enigma afirmando que la muerte no tiene la última palabra, porque al final la Vida triunfa. Así, pues, celebremos la victoria de Cristo. Escuchemos hoy la voz de Dios en Misa; abramos el corazón a Cristo muerto y resucitado para que nos renueve y nos limpie del veneno del pecado y de la muerte. En la Secuencia Pascual proclamamos: ‘sabemos que estás resucitado, la muerte en ti no manda.’ Sí, éste es precisamente el núcleo fundamental de nuestra profesión de fe; es el grito de victoria que hoy nos une a todos. Y si Jesús ha resucitado, ciertamente algo nuevo ha acontecido, algo capaz de transformar nuestra humanidad y el mundo. En efecto, podemos poner nuestra confianza en Él. Que el Señor sostenga a la Iglesia con su potencia sanadora y repare las situaciones de injusticia y sufrimientos humanos, (S.S. Francisco, Mensaje del Angelus). Al celebrar la victoria de la vida sobre la muerte y el tránsito de las tinieblas a la luz, recordad las palabras del ángel: “Id enseguida a decir a sus discípulos: ha resucitado de entre los muertos e irá delante de vosotros a Galilea,” (Mt 28:7).

To quote Saint Augustine, “Resurrectio Domini, spes nostra” –the resurrection of the Lord is our hope,– (Sermon 261:1). With these words, the great Bishop explained to the faithful that Jesus rose again so that we, though destined to die, should not despair, worrying that with death life is completely finished. Christ is risen to give us hope. Indeed, one of the questions that most preoccupies men and women is this: what is there after death? To this unfathomable mystery today’s Solemnity allows us to respond that death does not have the last word, because Life will be victo-rious at the end. Therefore, let us celebrate the feast of Christ’s victory. Let us be attentive to God’s voice at Mass this weekend; let us open our spirit to Christ, who has died and is risen in order to renew us, in order to remove from our hearts the poison of sin and death. In the Easter Sequence we sing: ‘we know that Christ has truly risen from the dead.’ Yes, indeed! This is the fundamental core of our pro-fession of faith; this is the cry of victory that unites us all today. If He is risen, then, something new has truly happened, something that changes the state of our humanity and the world. We can put our trust in the risen One. May the Lord sustain the Church with his healing force and bring remedy to all human situations of suffering and injustice, (Pope Francis, Angelus Message). As we celebrate the victory of life over death and our transit from darkness to light, let us remember the angel’s words: “Go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goes before you into Galilee,” (Mt 28:7).

EASTER HYMNS AND MUSIC Ancient Easter songs, radiant in their simplicity, were the main source of inspira on for popular hymns of later

mes. As early as the second century, the priest Melito of Sardes (Asia Minor) praised the Resurrec on: Trembling for joy cries all crea on; What is this mystery, so great and new? The Lord has risen from among the dead, And Death itself He crushed with valiant foot. Behold the cruel tyrant bound and chained, And man made free by Him who rose! From the fourth century date the magnificent La n hymns of Easter praise (praeconium paschale) which used to be sung at the ligh ng of the Easter candle. The Exultet, s ll sung in all Catholic churches during the liturgy of the Easter vigil, is a later formula on of such an ancient hymn. Its origin is unknown, although it has o en been ascribed to Saint Jerome or to Saint Augus ne. Here are a few lines: This is the Night, Which throughout the world Frees all who believe in Christ From the vices of their me-shackled existence, From the lightless dungeon of sin, And restores them to grace: unites them to holiness. This is the Night In which Christ broke the chains of death And rose in radiant victory From the pit of Hades. Another fourth-century poem is the La n hymn of Saint Ambrose, ex-pressing the "paradox of faith" as seen in the death and Resurrec on of Christ: O mystery great and glorious, That mortal flesh should conquer death, And all our human pains and wounds The Lord should heal by bearing them. Behold how man, though crushed by death, Now does arise and live with Christ, While death, repelled and robbed of might, Dies from its own malignant s ng. In Catholic churches the Regina Coeli Laetare (Queen of Heaven, Re-joice) is prescribed as an phon of the Blessed Virgin for Easter me. The text is a fourteenth-century La n poem, and is sung both in Gre-gorian chant and various musical se ngs all through the Easter sea-son. Another hymn o en used in Catholic churches is Regina Coeli Ju-bila (Queen of Heaven, Rejoice). This La n poem appeared first in 1600; the author is unknown. V. Regina caeli, laetare, alleluia. R.
