PROSPECTUS

St. Stanislaus' College is a Government School that aims at imparting both intellectual and technical skills and at forming citizens of Guyana who are imbued with a reverence of God, a love of their religion and a spirit of service to their country. It offers an education that stresses academic excellence and respect for manual labour, and is at the same time based on a philosophy of co-operation, a spirit of sharing and working together for the good of all.

The normal five years' course of studies leads to the G.C.E. (London) at Ordinary Level and to the C.X.C. There is a further two years' course for the G.C.E. Advanced Level (London).

The College has six good Science Laboratories, and there is a full course of Physics, Chemistry and Biology for every student. There is a College Library, and the College is equipped with audio-visual aids. An Art room, a Modern Languages room, a Music room, a Geography room and a Home Economics centre have been set up. A joint Form 6 has been established with St. Joseph's High School and boys and girls can join either school so as to be taught the following subjects up to Advanced Level: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Economics, English Literature, French, Spanish, History, Geography and Art. Agricultural Science and Industrial Arts are now part of the curriculum with the setting up of a School Farm and Workshop, and Music, Cookery and Needlework have been introduced.

On our playing field near the Sea Wall, we are able to provide full facilities for cricket, football, hockey and athletics under the supervision of a trained Games Master and Games Mistress assisted by the College Staff and experienced coaches. Volleyball, table tennis, netball, handball, badminton, basketball, swimming, scouting and the National Service Cadet Corps are also offered. Physical Education has now been included in the curriculum.

The school year consists of three terms. Classes begin at 8:10 a.m. and end at 2:05 p.m. with a lunch break from 11:40 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. The school operates on the basis of an 8 period day and a 40 period week.

Certain basic text books are provided free of charge by the Ministry of Education, and exercise books are replaced free of charge when they have been fully utilised. Admission to Form 1 is through the Secondary Schools Entrance Examination.
