Congratulations and best wishes for a prosperous New Year. We learned about Dragon dancing, lucky bags and the importance of the colour red in China. Well done and thank you to Luke, Emma, Tilly, Luca, Keira, Maya, Bobby, Millie, Leonardo, Teddy and Rebecca for a wonderful Chinese New Year presentation. Still on the theme of Chinese New Year, our Reception Class have become quite the experts on this subject. Their Topic “Celebrations” has focused on the Chinese New Year and it was lovely to see them ending their Topic Learning cooking Chinese food over the fire pit in our outdoor classroom. No boys football club Tuesday February 4th, due to staff training.

All other sports clubs are on

I am delighted to confirm that we have teamed up with Chelsea FC in their schools initiative training pro-gramme. I am hopeful they will be coming into school in March to run a training session for one of our classes, which will be amazing. As part of the scheme, they have offered us discounted tickets to Chelsea FC Womens matches. Parents can purchase adult tickets for just £6 to the upcoming match against West Ham United Women on Sunday 2nd February (kick-off 2pm) at Kingsmeadow! Simply visit chelseafc.com/womens and use the discount code CCWEST. Don’t forget, all junior tickets are just £1! Our year 5/6 girls football team will play Cleves School at home in the semi finals of the Cup on Wednesday February 26th. Letters for selected girls will be sent out next week. I would like to invite and encourage all the girls who don't make the team for this match to come and support the girls who are playing, in what is a huge game for us.

On a separate note, well done to the 11 girls who featured against St Jude's this week, with their 1-0 victory.

Costume Swap The School Council needs your help for costume swap week!

It would be lovely if you could be involved with it and bring in your un-wanted costumes.

The swap will start Monday 10th February 2020 and will run all week before and after school.

If you don’t have a costume to swap you can possibly purchase one for a £1 donation. This might be a good chance to buy or swap a costume

for World Book Day on 5th March 2020. Thank you for your support,

Bella and Savannah

(Year 3 School Council Reps)

World Book Week World Book week is on the commencing 2nd March.

In the lead up to World Book Week we are joining in with the National ‘Share a Story’ competition. You can find more details in the parents section of our website. We have also sent home information today.

We can’t wait to hear all about the stories you share at home. Thursday 5th March is Grandparents Day and dress up for World Book Day: It is lovely to hear stories read or retold by our Grandparents in the morning. We also all enjoy dressing up as our favourite book characters on the Thursday.

Our Children’s Week Ahead

Year 1

In RE next week we will start the new topic on meals and we will think about meals being a special time to come together as a family. In English we will continue learning about The Emperor’s New Clothes and also learning about who Hans Christian Anderson was and the other stories that he wrote. In Maths, we will be counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and also learning to group to make estimates. Next Friday, a volunteer from the British Hen Welfare Trust will be coming to talk to children about what animals need to be happy and healthy. This workshop will link to our project learning on where food comes from and Science learning about animals. Home Learning in Year 1: I have sent home a Maths problem solving activity where children need to make a 3D shape to carry a toy in.

Year 2

In RE next week we will be reflecting on our current RE topic of books and finishing off our rehearsals for our class liturgy. We will begin to look at our new topic ‘Thanksgiving’ and think of reasons we are thankful. In Maths, this week we are going to be looking at properties of 3D shapes and learning about measurement. In English, we will continue to get to know our new text and start using its structure so that we can start writing our own adventure stories. In Science we will look at the pond habitat in the school. We are also going to be doing some outdoor communicating skills. Finally for project we will be looking at aerial photos of England, the Arctic and Kenya and comparing them. Home Learning in Year 2: I have sent home a paper Maths Home-Learning for your child to complete. Can all home-learning please be returned by Tuesday 4th February. Thank you, have a lovely weekend!

Year 3

Next week in RE we will end the ‘Journeys’ topic with Respond. This is the part in which the children will be reflecting on their time learning about the seasons of the church and the journey in which we follow Jesus. In Maths, we will move onto fractions and identifying

, in a shape. In English, writing moves to report writing. Please do immerse the children in non-fiction books, these are often the basis for non-chronological report writing. In Outdoor Learning, the children will be using the HUB to investigate grid references and how these help to read maps. This is linked in with the project as we will be investigating Runnymede and mapping where the River Thames flows in our locality. As part of our Project, the children will meet Jess Kellard next week. She works for The National Trust at Runnymede and she will be assisting me in explaining our ‘Authentic Outcome’ for this Spring Term Project – very exciting! Learning in Year 3: I have sent home a comprehension based on a non-chronological report, as well as Project Learning linked with RE. Please can the children make note of when they pray at home as well as write down any special prayers that your families use at home. Have a great weekend.

Year 4

In RE we will be continuing to learn about the parish community, specifically the min-istries in the parish. In Maths, we will be learning to find non-unit fractions of 2 and 3-digit numbers and learning to simply fractions. We will continue to familiarise our-selves with the text ‘But It’s Not My Fault’ and begin to consider how we could per-suade others to be more responsible for our world. Our Science learning will continue to take us outdoors, where we will be setting up yoghurt pot pit traps in different are-as of the school in order to help collect more information about the living things in and around our school. Home Learning in Year 4: I have sent home Maths paper Home Learning this week, consolidating what we have been learning in class so far. If you have any empty yoghurt pots or something of a similar size, please send them in with your child by Wednesday next week; we will use this for our DIY pit traps in Science! Please do continue to practise times tables up to 12x12 and related division facts; your children should all know their Times Tables Rock Stars logins and be able to access this from home in order to practise regularly. Thank you very much. Have a lovely weekend!

Year 5

In RE we will be learning about ecumenism and we will be responding to our Mission themed learning. We have our trip to the RNLI station on Wednesday and we will be writing recounts afterwards. In Science we will be planting bean seeds using different variables and watching them grow. In Maths we will focus on column addition of dec-imal numbers, and on mental subtraction of decimal numbers. Home Learning in Year 5: For home learning this week I would like the children to write a script to narrate a wildlife documentary called ‘Life’: all about the life cycles of plants and animals. I have given them a template and a word bank to help them. There is also a maths sheet to complete. Please ensure that your child does not copy web pages verbatim as it is quite obvious which children have cut and pasted research. They must write things in their own words. Thank you. Have a good weekend.

Year 6

In RE this week, we will be continuing our topic ‘Common Good’ where we will be looking at how we can make an impact on the lives of others. In Maths, we will be focusing on adding and subtracting 5, 6 and 7 digit numbers. In English, we will be looking at the key features of information texts. Our Project focus this term is ‘change’, where we will be focusing on the changes that are happening to our world and the changes we can make for the benefit of our planet. This week we will continue to look at natural physical changes and how the area around us changed and create our own maps using natural resources. Home Learning in Year 6: I have set a SPAG SATs buster task for the children to complete for Tuesday 4th February. Please note PE is on Tuesday and Fridays, kits must be in for these days. Please practise spellings from the year 3/4 and 5/6 spelling list and practise times tables, which will help consolidate the learning they are doing in school. Please ensure all children have a handwriting pen and glue stick in school. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to ask me. Thank you
