FOOD, FELLOWSHIP AND

FAITH FOR ADULTS

Join us on Monday, June 15th at 7:30 p.m., as we welcome our

Guest speaker, Fr. John Valencheck, Pastor, St. Sebastian Parish in Akron who will present a

talk entitled “Getting It Rite: What we are actually doing at the Mass” at The Tangier Bistro

Bar, located at 532 West Market Street, Akron. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.

$10 admission fee includes appetizers. Cash bar available.

Sponsored by St. Sebastian Parish, Akron.

Jesus Christ Is Risen, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you shall renew the face of the earth.

O God, who, by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy his consolations, Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

This Feast of Pentecost is the culmination of the 50-day Easter Season in which we are reminded that “Jesus Christ is Risen.” We celebrate on this Feast that the first disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and sent forth into the streets of Jerusalem to begin the Church’s everlasting mission of proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

It is most appropriate after five months away that we, as St. Vincent de Paul Church, celebrate coming home to our restored and beautified 157-year-old church building. We are able to be together again and to share the Eucharistic Feast, receiving the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in Communion.

We began celebrating Eucharist in our Church home this past Monday on Memorial Day. Our daily Masses have begun again in our church – Monday through Friday mornings at 6:28 AM.

We have returned to our regular weekend schedule of Mass – Saturday evening at 5:30 PM and Sunday morning at 8:30 AM and 11 AM. Hopefully you have already received an explanation of the temporary changes in our celebration of Eucharist. They are in our parish bulletin, on our website, and emailed to those of you who have email addresses. We will continue livestreaming the 11 AM Mass for those who are older and may have underlying medical conditions. The Ohio Bishops for now have dispensed from the Sunday obligation those Catholics who have a reason for staying away from a closed-in and crowded environment .

As change is difficult and as adjustments are being made, may our prayer be that we focus on the beauty of our 2000-year-old Faith tradition centered in Jesus Christ and celebrated within our beautifully restored

church building. Fr. Norm

SUPPORT FOR OUR SEMINARIANS

The Parents of Priests Organization of our Cleveland Diocese works to support the needs of the seminarians at Borromeo and St. Mary Seminaries in many ways, including financial and spiritual support. One of the ways that members of the Diocese, and especially our St. Vincent de Paul Parish, can also assist these men is through their spiritual support. After Mass the ushers will have available, along with the bulletins, a calendar for the next four months. Each day is designated for one of the 83 seminarians as well as our Pope, Bishops, Clergy, and other related intentions. Please use this insert and keep it in a place where you can see it each day and thoughtfully say a prayer of support for the name listed on that day.

For further information about the Parents of Priests Organization, please contact Micki or Lou Trenta, 330-668-9068.

St. Vincent de Paul Church Page Five Sunday, May 31, 2020

Moving forward with Christ as our constant guide, we can look forward to a renewed vigor in our shared Catholic life. We ask that you keep the six points below as we return to Mass.

Attendance will be limited. Government regulations on the size of gatherings will still be in place. At this time, the bishops

are asking for less than a 50% of total capacity in order that physical distancing take place. Parishes will all be wrestling with how many individuals and/or families their building can

accommodate in light of the need for physical distancing of a minimum of six feet on all sides. It is extremely important that you register with your parish, so that your parish can contact you, and let you know how

attendance limitations will be handled and when you will be able to attend Mass.

Physical distancing will be the norm. Expect that your parish will have a specific seating pattern that allows for a minimum of six feet of physical distancing on all sides. Pews will be taped or cordoned off, and you may not be able to

sit where you sat for each liturgy pre-pandemic. Be prepared to wear a face mask or cloth face covering; and if you are sick or symptomatic, please stay home.

Mass will look, sound, and feel different. Precautions that were in place in early March will continue, along with other adjustments intended to limit the possibility for passing on the coronavirus known as COVID-19. Many of these are unfortunate and go against the grain of our worship expectations. Remember, the guiding

principle in making these liturgical sacrifices is our respect for the life of every human person and the promotion of the common good.

The general dispensation from Sunday Mass and Holy Days will continue. Many faithful Catholics are in high-risk categories, are fearful, or have family members with compromised health. In addition, we know that all worship spaces will be limited in how many people they can accommodate, and so not everyone who wants to attend will be able to do so on a

weekly basis. We invite you to continue to pray at home with your families, to participate in livestream liturgies, and to reach out to your fellow parishioners via telephone, postal mail, or internet to stay connected.

The pandemic is not over, and attending Mass will not be free of the risk of contracting Convid-19. Parishes have all been educated on increased cleaning and sanitation practices, and attendance will be limited and subject to reasonable safety requirements (such as social distancing and face mask

requirements); nevertheless, anyone who attends a public gathering, including a public Mass or other liturgy, must recognize that there will always be a risk that he/she could contract COVID-19 despite all of the precautions that will be taken to reduce that risk. As such, individuals who are in high-risk categories are strongly encouraged not to attend Mass at this time. Likewise anyone feeling sick or experiencing symptoms of illness should stay at home. Do not expect that being in a sacred space will make you immune to COVID-19 or that God will prevent you from contracting COVID-19 at church. We should have absolute trust in God’s divine providence, but we must also recognize that God does not promise us that this life will be free of suffering, disease, or death.

Let’s all strive for progress, not perfection! There will be challenges and frustrations. You may arrive at the church only to find that there is ‘no room at the inn,’ or that you cannot sit in your usual seat. You may be asked to change patterns of worship that have come to mean a great deal to your personal spirituality. All of us will

have to make sacrifices in order to preserve everyone’s right to life and to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Christ. The last thing that anyone wants is to cause the illness or death of their priest or a fellow parishioner, or to contribute to a rebound effect that would cause public worship to be suspended again.

Before Attending Mass

Please check your temperature before coming. If it is above 100 degrees or you are feeling ill, please stay home and watch the live stream at 11:00 a.m. Mass.

Please sanitize your hands before entering, when exiting, and after contact with your face.

Wear a mask or other face covering upon entering the church, if you are over age two and during the celebration of Mass, except for the brief moment of receiving Holy Communion.

You are encouraged to bring your own missals or hymnals for use during the celebration of Mass - no missals or other materials will be in the pews.

Holy water fonts will remain empty until further notice. Be mindful of six feet distance and tape markings along the floor. Be prepared as the cry room and Children's Liturgy of the Word will not be available. Staff, ushers, or other volunteers should assist with directing people to pews specifically

marked. Two doors will be used… Maple Street Door and Rectory side door. Seating will be arranged such that six feet of distance should be maintained between members

of one household and another. Capacity will be limited to a maximum of 125 in order to assure compliance with social

distancing requirements. Stationary baskets will be found at the entrance doors for donations and will be monitored by

the ushers until after the start of Mass. This is in lieu of the offertory collection.

During Mass Ushers, Staff, Greeters

Staff, ushers, or other volunteers will assist with directing people to pews specifically marked. Seating will be arranged so that six feet of distance will be maintained between members of

one household and another. Capacity will be limited to 125 people in order to assure compliance with social distancing

requirements. Stationary baskets will be used for donations and will be found at each entry. Please place

your offertory donation in the basket as you enter the church.

Seating of Families Families may sit together but are to maintain six feet of distance between their family and other

families or individuals throughout the celebration of Mass.

Seating of Individuals Pews will be left vacant in between families and individuals so that six feet of distance will be

maintained in all directions.

Processional The procession into church will be simple – from the sacristy – not the front door of the church.

Altar Servers

No servers should be used at this time. Sign of Peace

The sign of peace is to be omitted.

St. Vincent de Paul Church Page Seven Sunday, May 31, 2020

Communion Instructions for the distribution of Holy Communion will be explained

before the start of distribution. For the health and safety of all, Holy Communion on the tongue is

not allowed for the duration of the pandemic.

Communion Line For the distribution of Holy Communion, ushers and other volunteers who are masked and

gloved will ensure six-foot distancing in the Holy Communion line. Floor markings will be placed six feet apart in the aisles in which the people approach the

sanctuary for Holy Communion to allow proper social distancing. For the distribution of Holy Communion, a single file for each Extraordinary Minister of Holy

Communion is necessary to maintain social distancing. Multiple Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion may be used as long as one-way traffic patterns are observed.

Holy Communion Ministers / Sanitizing (both ordinary and extraordinary) All Ministers of Holy Communion will wear facemasks.

Communion ministers must be masked and wash and sanitize their hands immediately before and after distributing. Sanitizing stations should be located nearby the Holy Communion stations.

Distribution

When approaching the Holy Communion ministers, the communicant is to pull their mask below the chin and present one hand resting on the palm of the other.

After responding, “Amen,” the communicant will step aside to reverently place the Eucharist in his or her mouth and immediately replace his/her mask.

After Mass Ushers

Ushers will assist in exiting families and individuals in an organized manner from their seated pews, following social distancing guidelines.

Families

Family units should depart the church in an organized manner wearing masks and observing six feet of distance between other households.

Pastor Greetings / Gatherings

Clergy and other ministers can acknowledge the faithful as they leave but only with social distancing and no physical contact such as a handshake or hug.

There are to be no receptions or social gatherings (coffee and donuts) following Mass.

Cleaning of Church Pews and other highly trafficked areas of the church will be wiped down before the next Mass,

with the removal of trash and other items from the pews. All those who are cleaning or preparing the church should be masked and should wear gloves.

Welcome back to the beautifully renovated church! Summer vacation is here. I pray that our St. Vincent de Paul Parish School families have begun to relax and enjoy this time with each other. Please relax, rejoice, and rejuvenate! Many wonderful developments happened this past school year. Thank you for your prayerful and financial support! The school chapel was completed this past summer, new windows were installed, all halls and classrooms were painted, a morning school broadcast system was installed, and new religious artwork was placed in the school building. Our faculty and staff worked hard implementing the Diocesan Curriculum and participated in many professional development sessions. Additional building and curriculum improvements are in the plans for next school year. We received a grant through Rooted in Faith and are purchasing a large Promethean board to be utilized in the engineering lab by day and Scullen Room in the evenings. Through Boosterthon and a state security grant we will repair and replace the playground gates. A task force of parents, faculty, and staff has been formed to prepare and ready our school for the 2020-2021 school year. Our students need to be safely in the school building as much as possible. We must thoroughly develop multiple plans that meet our student needs and the new state regulations. We will be ready and prepared for any scenario in the fall. Our intention is to teach students in person and provide simultaneous instruction for those who cannot attend school. Our students first day back to school is Tuesday, August 25th. There will be a curriculum night and open house the week before school begins. The date and time will be announced once the church/school calendar is in place. Have a blessed and safe summer.

Peace and blessings,

Mrs. Salamon
