#5 NICK MUCK begins his fourth year as a varsity player in2012 playing in a total of 26 varsity games, a school record. His varsity football career began as a freshman in 2009 wherehe saw enough action to earn a varsity letter. As a sophomore,he recorded 13 tackles while playing in each game. Last sea-son, Nick started every game at inside linebacker for the Stal-lions where lead the team with 73 total tackles. He also earned2nd Team All Sea View League honors and was named theoutstanding skill player for the Stallions. Tonight, Nick’s willbe playing in his 23rd consecutive game (also a school record)dating back Laguna Hills on November 13, 2009. Born inPleasanton, California, Nick enjoys relaxing before games andfeels his greatest asset to the team is his leadership of the de-fense on and off the field.
#20 KYLE MUCERINO returns as the leading receiver forthe Stallions after an impressive summer playing on both sidesof the ball. In 2011, he started at wide receiver in 8 gameswhere caught 16 passes while scoring 2 touchdowns. Bothtouchdowns came against Trabuco Hills as he recorded 4catches for 95 yards. His biggest game of the year came versusrival Capistrano Valley where he pulled in 7 receptions. How-ever, an ankle injury slowed him down all year and he did notbegin to get comfortable until later in the season. In 2012, hewill be looked to on defense and special teams as well wherehe will play corner and return kicks. Born in Mission Viejo,Kyle has a younger brother, Matt, who also plays receiver forthe Stallions.
#8 SCOTT HOOVER has had to overcome much adversityto return to the playing field in 2012. Just before the openingleague game versus El Toro he suffered a fracture in is leg thatended his junior season. However, this did not slow him downand his preparation this past off-season has shown why he isconsidered a leader on both offense and defense. In the 6games prior to his injury, he recorded 12 tackles while startingand safety. This year, Scott will likely see action at safety, cor-ner, and wide receiver. At 6-2 and 180 pounds, he has theability to out physical smaller defensive backs and the staff ishopeful that he and fellow senior Kyle Mucerino can anchoran explosive receiving corp. Born in Long Beach, Scott likes tolisten to music before games and believes his knowledge of thegame can provides an edge over his opponents.

2012 STALLIONS JV & FRESHMEN TEAM SCHEDULE
SAN JUAN HILLS STALLIONS FOOTBALL 2012
Student Fan ClubThe Rough Riders
When ‘San Juan Hills’ was first adopted as the name ofCUSD’s 6th high school, many people recalled the story ofTeddy Roosevelt and the Battle of San Juan Hill during theSpanish-American War in 1898. That battle made famous theheroism of Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders. At thetime, reporter Richard Harding Davis described the RoughRider charge up San Juan Hill:
“Colonel Roosevelt, on horseback, broke from the woods behind the line of the Ninth, and finding its men lying in hisway, shouted: ‘If you don’t wish to go forward, let my men pass, please.’…It was a miracle of self-sacrifice, a triumph of bulldogcourage, which one watched breathless with wonder.”
As we continue to lay the foundations of the traditions atSJHHS, our Stallion Fans will also use the nickname, RoughRiders to represent the values that San Juan Hills finds important.
We are confident that the images of the Stallion and theRough Riders will provide vivid symbols which will reflect acommunity that is committed to providing the best educa-tional, athletic and co-curricular experiences for our kids.
“The credit belongs to the [person] who is actually in thearena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, whostrives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again;because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; …who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, whospends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in theend the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his placeshall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.”
– Theodore Roosevelt
