BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Minute People
On behalf of Bill Hope, Garry Gray circulated a sign up sheet and money collection envelope for our Christmas light tour leaving Heritage Park at 7:30 pm on December 17th. The cost is $25,
which includes a wine and cheese plus a $20 charitable donation receipt.
John Radermacher advised that there are still two weeks left to augment our shwack of food
donations for the veterans. Please dig deep.
Laurie Jacques presented Doug Kinley with the coveted Rotarian of the month alumni fridge magnet and granted Doug the
right to the parking space for at least another week.
Whether you prefer: Christmas party, Seasonal Social or Festive Fete, Laurie needs to know if you are at-
tending, so that Al Hardstaff can provide the number to Heritage Park. A roll call was conducted.

And in an election that ended in a tie after all chads were examined by scrutineers Peter Harding and Wynne Bjorgan:
John Radermacher and Rob Burton – Vocational Service
Opting to forgo the coin flip or rock-paper-scissors, the candidates in true Rotary fashion, fashioned a coalition as co-chairs.
Garry Gray reported on membership. We stand at 49 members today, with the application of Linda Campbell to be discussed at our upcoming executive meeting. Our leadership goal is 60 members by 2012. Garry also wants to focus on retention, which has fortunately not been an issue for our club. A membership speaker will be scheduled for February and public display
booths will be set up in connection with a vocational event and at the annual golf tournament and wine fest.
Bob Sadler repeated good news from the casino, that we expect a $72,000 cheque with ½ applied to this year’s budget. Our initial budgeted amount was $32,000. With the additional Wine Fest funds our committees have $8,000 more to donate. Our
club is on target with respect to other revenues and expenses.

John Radermacher took more than a minute with birthdays: Norm Haines and Betty Little (2nd), David McKeown (8th) and Jim Davis (9th). Anniver-saries: Din and Nuri Peerani (7th) and Doug and Jackie Kinley (8th). Wynne also celebrates her 10th
club anniversary.
John explained why engineers favor talking frogs over romance, but neglected to explain how engi-
neers reproduce.

Sheriff: Peter Harding
Happy Bucks Rob Burton, sporting a beard just like ZZ Top, had $5 happy to co-chair Vocational Service and introduce a new interact club at Juneau
Academy.
Doug Hood had $1 to note our director of public image baying at the
moon on his birthday.
Mike Bright had $2, all he had left from a trip to Vegas to celebrate
his daughter’s 40th birthday.
Ray had $1 for his 9th year singing.
Helen Buchanan had $2 happy for the hard work and projects under-
taken by the Lord Beaverbrook Interact club.
John Radermacher had $2 happy to co-chair Vocational Service and
complimented the new banner design.
Laurie Jacques made his annual $100 US contribution.
50/50 JACK POT
With a pot of $1,189.50 David McKeown was called in to oversee the proceedings. Prior to his upcoming Vegas trip Bob Clark had his ticket selected. While rubbing his hands with glee Bob delivered the four-way test, but our handsome hero was unable to overcome the steep house
advantage, drawing the 2 of spades. Vegas may be another story.
Like a winter blizzard, sheriff Peter Harding blew into town and administered an avalanche of fines:
Congratulations to the new executive, who donated their time and now a dollar.
Those not sporting pins and badges.
Al Black, now with all that time on his hands, but arriving late.
Jeannette for spending too much time on her ponytail to arrive on time.
Wynne for not providing Peter with a personalized birthday invitation.
Everyone who worked the kettles before winter hit.
President Martin for his gleeful weather announcement.
John Price was asked to remove a pretentious dollar from his pocket.
Laurie Jacques for reducing a banker to tears when he tore a $10 bill in half.
Bob Clark because the Montreal Canadiens will not make the playoffs.
Everyone from Saskatchewan.

Dec 11 Christmas SocialChristmas SocialChristmas SocialChristmas Social “Evening meeting at Rancher’s Hall”
President Martin announced on behalf of Bill Hope that club attendance has averaged 76%, with 7 members having 100%
attendance.
Harry Kim introduced new golf tournament co-chairs: Doris Kutrowski, Brian Semeschuk and Linda Nixon of ARF. Harry then presented a dramatic power point presentation with taped interviews. Community Service had a budget of $38,388. $8,500
has been spent with $20,100 in projects pending.
Completed Community Service projects include: the Victory Centre washroom, The Drop In Centre towel drive (7 bags full) and $1,000 to Veteran’s Food Bank. $5,000 will go to Parkinson’s, a shwack of food to the veteran’s food bank and $2,500 to Victory Centre Christmas hampers to be delivered December 22nd. Canadian Paraplegic, Salvation Army, GAP and Neighbour
Link are also poised to receive funds.
Doris Kutrowski updated the club on vocational service. Juneau Beach Academy, which serves grades 7 – 12, will become our new interact club. The interact club provides us with access to more students for RYPEN, RYLA and the four-way speech contest. $1,000 is budgeted for set up costs. St Joan of Arc ($1,630), Mode of Action ($2,500) and G.W. Skene ($2,500) will
also receive donations.
Norm Haines provided a new banner to all club members. The banner reflects our unique heritage and features the favorite means of transport of a number of our club members: a train. Norm commended the golf tournament under Harry’s leader-
ship and the partnering with ARF. This partnership resulted in Pearl Tsang adopting us like a lost puppy. Norm’s latest challenge will be maximizing the use of Rotary Hall on a
national basis. He has a committee in place.
Laurie Jacques advised that with Remembrance Day behind us, it is time to focus on Christmas and the New Year. At least one or two more social events will be held in the New Year, with details to follow. Laurie’s committee is also investigating the purchase of
a laptop for club use.
President Martin reminded us that there would be no morning meeting next week December 11th.
In the words of Vince Lombardi: “the only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary”.
