TO resolve faction fights that havegreatly affected the area of Maphu-
mulo,MEC for Transport, Communi-ty Safety and Liaison alongside theMEC for Health visited Maphumulolast Tuesday.

It is alleged that the fights beganduring a traditional ceremony andcontinued during school hours atUkukhanyakwezwe High School.
It is alleged that the boys involvedin the fight brought weapons to
school.Inhisspeech,Mchunusaidhewas
disappointed to hear that their par-ents supported the conflict.
He urged community membersnot to be involved in the conflict and‘senseless’ violence.
“Nothing productive comes out offighting. Violence begets death andendless hatred,” he said.
Mchunu said he was particularlyconcerned about the future of matricpupils who should be preparing forexaminations in a peaceful environ-
ment not a conflict ravagedschool.
Teaching and learning at theschool has since returned to nor-mal.
A study by the Centre for Jus-tice and Crime Prevention indicatesthat there isan'alarming' increase inschool violence.
According to the study 22.2 per-cent of high school pupils had beensubjected to some form of violencefromasampleof almost 6000pupils,121 principals and 239 teachers.
The largest percentage comesfrom KZN.
Furthermore the studyindicates12.2 percent had beenthreatenedwithviolence,6.3percentassaulted, 4.7 percent sexually as-saulted or raped and 4.5 percentrobbed at school.

THE murder of a prominent localtaxi boss and another KwaDu-kuza Taxi Association member
inGroutville last Thursday has led to aflare up of violence in KwaDukuza.
Taxi boss DennisMhlongo (48) andhis driver Khulekani Mdletshe (25)were gunned down on the R102 alleg-edlybyDolphinCoastTaxiAssociationmembers.
ThreesuspectswerearrestedhourslaterinProspecton,DurbanbythePro-vincial Taxi Violence Task Team.
Dodo Justice Mthethwa (50), Mb-hekiseni Luthuli (27) from Groutvilleand Mthunzi Mathenjwa (29) fromClairmont appeared in the KwaDuku-za Magistrates Court on Monday andwere not asked to plead.
Theywerechargedwith twocountsof murder, three counts of attemptedmurder and possession of unlicensedfirearms and ammunition.
The triowere remanded in custodyandwillmakeaformalbailapplicationtomorrow (Thursday).
When arrested, the suspects werefoundinpossessionoftwoR5riflesandone revolver.
It is alleged that at approximately8am - last Thursday -Mhlongo,Mdlet-
she and three other members of theKwaDukuza Taxi Association weretravelling in a Polo Playa in Groutvillewhen theywereaccostedbyeightmenat gunpoint.
The suspects forced them out oftheir vehicle and told them to lie on theground. The two deceasedmen did asthey were told while the other threemanaged to escape, unharmed.
Mhlongo and his driver were thenshot and died instantly at the scene.
Police found more than 50 spentcartridges at the crime scene.
DolphinCoastTaxiassociationPROofficer Mdu Tony said: “The taxi boss,his driver and the three others - whoweremembersof theKwaDukuzaTaxiAssociation - had previously attackedabout eightDolphinCoastTaxiAssoci-ation members, who retaliated andkilled the two men.
“The reason for the violence is thatKwaDukuza are still fighting with usover taxi routes,” said Tony.
In a statement the Department ofTransport, Community Safety and Li-aison said the shooting was linked to“running tensions” between theKwaDukuza and Dolphin Coast TaxiAssociations.
This tension isaresult of theassoci-ation fuedingover taxi routes betweenBallito, KwaDukuza and Tongaat.
Transport MEC Willies Mchunucondemned the murders and askedthe two associations to start “peacefulengagements”.
“This incident is unacceptable as itundermines the progress that hasbeenmadebygovernment inaddress-ing taxi conflict in the area,” he said.
“We have dispatched a team fromour public transport unit to workwithlawenforcementagenciesandengageall affected parties.”
Mchunusenthiscondolences to thefamilies of the two men.
SAPS provincial commissionerlieutenant general MmamonnyeNgobeni commendedmembers of theProvincialTaxiViolenceTaskTeamforthe early breakthrough in the investi-gation.
“It is unacceptable that people canbe gunned down so callously with noregard for the life of another humanbeing.
“We are confident that the remain-ing suspects will be brought to bookand we will ensure that they are pun-ished for their crimes,” she said.
The SAPS provincial media centresaid the motive for the killing is un-known, pending police investigation.

TWO unemployed parents whoattemptedtoregister theirchil-dren for grade seven for the
next school year, at Glenhills Second-ary School have said it is unethicalthat parents are being asked to pay
admission fees in order to obtainplace for their children.
HoweveraGlenhillsSecondaryin-sider said even though the school is agovernment school, parents are re-quired to pay school fees as it is a feepaying school.
Lalitha Misra, an unemployedparent of two, said that the Glenhillsprincipalaskedhertorenderservicestotheschoolsinceshecouldnotaffordthe R900 school fee.
Heallegedly toldher that themon-ey she earned from rendering servic-es to the schoolwould go towards thefees she was unable to pay.
“I haven’t been paying fees at theprimary school, but to my amaze-mentI’vebeentoldthereisnofreeed-ucation at Glenhills SecondarySchool. This is unethical because Iwouldhave towork from8amto3pmat the school and I could use this timeto look for another job. I have neverheard of such a thing before.”
According toMisra, if shedoesnotdo as she was told; her child will nothave a school to attend next year.
Another mother, Resh Singh wasaskedtopayanadmissionfeeofR450also atGlenhills Secondary School bythe end of the year.
“Last week we were issued with anotice to enrol our kids and pay aR450 admission fee.
“Someparentswereadvisedtoap-ply for exemptions as they cannot af-fordtheschool feesandwereaskedtocometotheschoolonSaturday,12Oc-tober to seek exemption from theschoolprincipalaswellasthegovern-ing body.
“Adifferentstorytranspiredthere.I have already enrolled my child andpaid the stipulated 50% school fees. Ithink it is unfair that another parentwhowas seeking admissionwas toldthat there is no free education.”
She said Glenhills is a low incomeareaandpeopledonothavemoneytopay the admission fees.
“In this township, more than 50%ofhouseholdsarerunonsocialgrantsalone. The full school fee is R900
which most parents cannot afford,”she said.
According to the South AfricanSchools Act, a public schoolmust ad-mitpupilsandservetheireducationalrequirements without unfairly dis-criminating in any way.
It further states that no pupil maybe refused admission to a publicschool on the grounds that his or herparent isunabletopayorhasnotpaidthe school fees determined by thegoverning body under Section 39.
It also states that no public schoolmay charge any registration, admin-istration, or other fee on the applica-tion for admission and if the parenthas submitted an application for ad-mission before the given deadline,clearlystatedreasons fornon-admis-sion must be provided.
This is a requirement in terms ofsection five of the Promotion of Ad-ministrative Justice Act (2000).
With regards to re-registration,the process is simply an administra-tive task which serves to assist withplanning for the next year.
It isbelievedthatsomeschools lev-el 'threats' that if the current schoolfees are not paid in full pupilswill notbe issued with re-registration forms.
This conduct by the school is alsounlawful according to the Act.
The insider atGlenhills secondaryexplainedthatthe‘no-fee’schoolsareonly those which are situated in ‘ru-ral’ areas where there are ‘many un-employed people’.
Hesaidparentsarerequiredtopayasmallamounttowardsthefollowingyear’s fees and not registration fees.
“We wrote letters to parents andthose who cannot afford to pay wererequested to apply for exemptions.We channel the communication viachildren.”
HeaddedthattheSchoolActstipu-lates that parents who cannot affordto pay school fees should render ser-vices to the school for a day.
Hemade it clear that the school isnot exploiting anybody, but just fol-lowing the rules set by the depart-ment. They must not think that theschool is not being compassionate.We are the lowest paying school interms of fees in the area.”
KZN Department of Educationspokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi saidthedecision topay theadmission feesis made by parents and members ofthe school governing body (SGB).
“A principal will not solely decideon the admission fee. If the school isa fee paying one then parents are re-quired topay theadmission feeasde-cided by the SGB together with par-ents.
“If parents encounter problemstheymust direct their queries to theirlocal district or circuit office,” saidMahlambi.
The Weekly contacted local gov-ernment schools to find out their ad-mission/re-admission fee amounts:Stanger Manor Secondary chargedR1 000, Glenhills Primary chargedR300, Darnall Secondary chargedR400 and Tshelenkosi Secondarycharged R400.
The Weekly was told that parentsagreed on the amounts to pay for theupcoming year.

Still no protection>> DA councillor believes ANC delayed giving him guards

A DEMOCRATIC Alliance PR councillor isyet to be assigned a bodyguard by theKwaDukuzaMunicipality, sevenmonths
after the crime intelligence unit (CIU) recom-mended the council do so.
In documents seen by theWeekly, the initialrecommendation was made by the specialisedpoliceunitinApril,statingcouncillorThokozaniGumede met the minimum requirements to beprovided with “security guards”, but by Sep-tember the council had yet to act on the recom-mendation.
The municipality confirmed last week thatthey had decided this month to assign Gumedewith the security detail “in terms of council’sclose protection policy” and that he must visitthe council to formalise the decision.
ButGumedeis furiousandbelievesthecoun-cil, led by the ANC, has purposely delayed ap-
proving his security simply because he is amember of an opposition party.
“They would never have taken this long if itwas one of their [ANC] councillors. The delaywas an obvious attempt to frustrate me. I haveyet to be informed officially about the decisiontaken. I have only heard about it from others.Fromwhat I gather theywant to assignme oneguard, when the SAPS clearly recommended itin the plural,” said Gumede.
In an e-mail sent to Gumede by the council’smunicipalmanagerNhlanhlaMdakaneonSep-tember 10,Mdakane said themunicipality had“resolved not to provide security” on the countthat the municipality “sees no immediatethreat”.
The SAPS report is “highly contradictory”andthatthefinancialimplicationsofappointingbodyguards cannot be deemed “justifiable tothe ratepayers of KwaDukuza”, it added.
But just six days later the CIU sent Mdakane
asecondmemotitledSecret,stating“thesubject[Gumede] meets the minimum requirements”.
Gumedeopenedacasewith theKwaDukuzapolice in March under the charge “conspiracyto commitmurder”, thebasis of hismeeting theminimum requirement.
He said he has received threats to him andhis family and since April has paid for his ownsecurity detail and moved from his home inDoringkop. Gumede said he is being “targeted”becauseheis“talkingtothemedia”and“expos-ingcorruptactivities”within thecouncil relatedto local housing projects, the overpayment forservices and non-delivery of projects.
The council says they have “recently” re-solved toappointhimabodyguardand thatGu-mede needs to just make it official.
KwaDukuza Municipality director of com-munications Sifiso Zulu said: “After consulta-tion with relevant parties, [it was agreed] Gu-medebeassignedbodyguards in termsofcoun-

cil’s close protection policy.”He said council has no constant figure on
what it spends on security, but that he wouldnot be able to reveal who, and how manyguards are assigned, to political leaders as it“constitutes a breach of security”.
Now Gumede believes the council shouldreimbursehimforwhathehasspentonpayingfor his own security.
“It is costing about R15 000 a month and Ihavebeenusingmysavings topay for this ser-vice.”
DA provincial leader Sizwe Mchunu saidthe delays in providing Gumede security is anattempt to frustrate the party in the run up tothe 2014 national general election.

A WOMAN'S body was found with a ropetied around her neck in Doringkop recently.
According to police her boyfriend, BhekiSibisi has been arrested in connection withthe crime.
Lindiwe Ngwenya went missing at thebeginning of October.
KwaDukuza SAPS inspector Fishy Naidoo questioned her partner extensively
without success.However, when Naidoo told him that
they had his blood samples from the crimescene Sibisi confessed to the killing.
He apparently said he used a rope tostrangle her and dumped her body in thenearby river.
Sibisi was arrested and charged for murder. He appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court and was not asked to plead.Sibisi was remanded in custody.

MANDENI police solved threecaseswithin24hoursevenbeforethecomplainantsgottoknowthatthe crimes had been committed.
The first arrest was made atSundumbili Plaza on Tuesdaywhenpolice spotted two suspectsacting suspiciously.
Police stopped them and aftersearching their bags found stolentaps and fixtures in their posses-sion. It isallegedthatthesuspectsbroke into a vacant house in thearea and stole the items.
The suspects then arrestedand charged for being in posses-sionof suspected stolenproperty.
In a separate incident, policearrested two suspect were foundin possession of stolen mountainbicycles.
The members were conduct-ing a crime operation when they
spotted the suspects in posses-sion of the bicycles. When policequestioned the two it was discov-eredthat thesuspectsstole thebi-cycles from a Mandeni homewhere it had been chained to acarport.
The police officers then pro-ceeded to the Sundumbili taxirank, where they arrested twosuspects who were found in pos-session of cosmetics which wasallegedlystolenduringaburglaryfrom a business in Sundumbili.
It is alleged that the suspectsbroke into the premises and stolethe items. They were arrestedand charged for being in posses-sion of suspected stolen propertyand burglary of a business.
All sixsuspectsareexpectedtoappear in the Nyoni Magistrate’scourt this week.

FORMER KwaDukuza residentRishaad Singh returned to his home-town after 25 years - this time as theSheriff of the High and Lower Court.
Singh officially took uphis post on1October - a position which he was act-ing in since December last year.
Singh was born in Glendale and at-tended the Parukhbud Primary andStangerManor Secondary Schools. Helatermoved toVerulamwherehe com-pleted his matric at Mountview Sec-ondary School.
Singh started his career in 1997 asan administration clerk in the sheriff’soffice inPinetown. Sixmonths later, hewas promoted to deputy sheriff.
He holds a NQF Level five qualifica-tion in Law Enforcement: Sheriffingand is currently studying towards anauctioneering qualification.
SpeakingtotheWeekly,Singhsaid sheriffs have an im-portantrole in the jus-tice system astheyactasathird
party to serve court processes and toexecute thewarrants andorders of thecourt.
“Being a sheriff ofthe court is a diffi-cult job.Every-one portraysthe sheriffas a badpersonwho justcomes toyourhouse, kickthedooropenand takeyour furni-ture.
“That isnot so.We treatpeoplewithrespect and dignity andwe are alwayswilling to assist in any way we can.”
Singh also has a big heart when itcomes to social responsibilities. He
assists the underprivileged andthose who cannot afford to paythe sheriff’s office for execut-ingpeaceorders,domesticvi-olence, etc.

A NEW clinic was officially opened in Maphumulo by KZN MEC for Health DrSbongiseni Dhlomo last Tuesday.
An estimated 17 000 people will usethis clinic.
The clinic was constructed to accommodate the influx of outpatients fromthe Umphumulo Hospital.
Before the construction of the clinicpeople were attended to in a small building.
It was reported that during the last
quarter of 2009 and the first quarter of2010, 12 626 patients were attended toat the health post.
The new clinic will offer the followingservices: child care, women’s health, maternalcare,chronicdiseases,HIVcounselling and testing/voluntary counsellingand testing, TB, treatment of sexuallytransmitted infections, eye care, mentalhealth care, geriatrics, youth friendly services, nutrition, attend to injuries, resource centre for health education,monthly doctors’ visits and a multidisciplinary team.

I am often disgusted with society. In
three-years-oldandaredolledupwithfakeeye lashes, tons of make-up and diet regi-ments. It’ssoinsanethatitsactuallylaugh-able. Idon'thaveanychildren (that I knowoff) but I am 100 per cent certain that Iwould leave my three-year-old alone tofloat on into imagination land...a placemost toddlers should be.
How can you subject a child to a life ofsuchpointlessness? It isa formof indoctri-nation that is embedded so early on that itwill undoubtedly negatively affect thatchild for a long time to come.
Are parents this bad?It seems this culture of even mild cele-
bratory status has gripped you all and yourefuse to let go. It's hard to connect, but itisactuallytheretardsofthecelebratoryso-cietysuchasMileyCyrusandKhanyiMbauwho retard you and your children.
Why dear community?Why the obses-sion with other people's lives?
Dowenot strive formore as thehumanrace? Do we not endeavour to explore thedepths of space and planet earth. Is ourtrue purpose not exploration instead ofself-destruction?
I've seen the retardation of society

But for Godsake, don't become theirfriends.Youarenot their toensuretheygeteverything material in this life. You arethere to ensure they gain the appropriateexperiences to copewith the “real world”.Youaremeanttoequipthemwithlifeskills.
This will be their protection.We are alltooobsessedwithourownrealitiesandfo-cus less on what really matters. We livein aharsh society and it is important to ex-pose theyouth...our future tohowthis sys-temworks. Show themhow they can con-quer it and contribute to upliftment.
Fameand fortune favoursnoone in thelong run. It kills our souls and takes awayfrom our humanity.

Who gets breast cancer?One out of 15 women will
develop the disease at somestageduringher lifetime. The riskof de-veloping breast cancer increases withage.
What is breast cancer?Breast cancer is not necessarily re-
stricted to a lump in the breast when di-agnosed, although that is generally thefirst sign of the disease.
As a matter of fact, it is not the lumpitself that kills, but rather the spreadingof cancerous cells to other parts of thebody,aphenomenonknownasmetasta-sis.

Lying down: Lie down withyou arm tucked behind yourhead. With the other handand with your fingers flattened, feel the oppositebreast.
This illustration shows you how tocheck each breast. Begin at pointA and follow the arrows, feelingfor a lump or thickening. Remember to feel all parts of eachbreast. Most lumps are not cancerous, but if you find one, youshould get it checked by a doctorimmediately.
Underarm area: Begin in the underarm area and move your fingersdown until they are below thebreast. Move your fingers in towardthe centre and go slowly back up.Cover the whole area, going upand down. With your arm restingon a firm surface, use the samemotion to examine the underarm.
What is a Breast Self-Examination(BSE)?
Breast selfexamination is a procedureperformed by an individual to physically andvisually examine herself for any changes inthe breasts and underarm areas of the body.
IthasnotshownthatBSEalonecanaccurately determine the presence of breast cancer.
Therefore, BSE should not be used inplace of, but in addition to, clinical breast examination and mammography.

Breast selfexamination should be performed every month.
Become familiar with how your breasts
In the show-er: While taking a shower(or bath), explore thebreast and underarm areaswith your fingertips. Raiseone arm andplace yourhand at theback of your head. Slowly and methodically, move the pads of your fingertipsover the breast in a circular pattern.Don't forget to feel the armpit area.Repeat on the other breast with youropposite hand.

What if the lump is too big?Thereisastrongpossibilitythatsome
cancer cells have already found theirway via the blood stream to other partsof the body (bone, lung or liver).
These cancer cells that went astray(micro-metastasis)cannotalwaysbede-tectedwith the available tests such as x-rays and scans. With a large tumourthere is more than a 70% chance of mi-cro-metastasis. Systemic treatment(chemotherapy ± hormonal therapy)should then be administered to shrinkthe tumour and at the same time kill thecells outside the boundaries of thebreast. If the tumour has shrunk suffi-ciently, it canbe removedwith good cos-metic results - resulting in far less trau-ma and mutilation for the patient.

Diwali celebrates Lord Rama's glorious and longawaitedreturn to his Kingdom of Ayodhya after his fourteen long yearsof exile in the forests.
It commemorates Lord Krishna's victory over the demonNarakaasura who had kidnapped and terrorised the gopis ofVrindavan.
When the evil Naraka was finally killed by Bhagwan Krishnaand Satyabhaama, he begged pitifully for mercy, thus, uponhis entreaties, it was declared that this day of his death wouldbe celebrated with great joy and festivity. It is also celebrated
as the day Bhagwan Vishnu married Maha Lakshmi.Diwali is also associated with the story of the fall of Bali
a demon king who was conquered by Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnuappeared to the demon king Bali in the form of a dwarf andrequested only three steps of land. The evil and egotistic Baligranted the dwarf's meager request of only three feet. Suddenly, Lord Vishnu took on His grand size and placed one footon the earth, another on the Heavens and His third on the headof the evil Bali.
In general, Diwali signifies the triumph of good over evil,of righteousness over treachery, of truth over falsehood, andof light over darkness.
Additionally, Diwali is the holy time in which we offer ourprayers to Maha Lakshmi and we worship Her with piety anddevotion.MahaLakshmiisthegoddessofwealthandprosperity, bestowing these abundantly upon her devotees.

THERE are three main aspects of Diwali. The firstis the celebration of light.
We line our homesand streets with lanterns,we burst fireworks, children play with sparklers.
However, Diwali is nota festival of light in orderthat we may burn candles, fireworks and sparklers.
Sure, these are wonderful ways of expressingour gaiety. But, they arenot the only or truemeaning of "light."
Diwali is a festival ofthe light which dispelsthe darkness of our ignorance it is a festival ofthe light which shows usthe way on our journeythrough life.
The purpose is not toglorify the light of thecandle, or the light of thefirecracker.
The purpose is to glorify the light of God.
It is He who bestowsthe real light, the everlasting light upon thedarkness of this mundane world. A candleburns out. A firework is amomentary visual experience. But, the candle ofa still mind and the fireworks of a heart filledwithbhaktiaredivineandeternal; these are whatwe should be celebrating.
We decorate ourhomes with clay lamps,but why? What is thesymbolism behind that?
Those lamps signifyGod's light, penetratingthrough the ignoranceand sin of our daily lives.
Theysignifythedivinelight, shining its waythrough this mundaneworld. A home bathed inlight is a home in whichanger, pain, and ignorance are being dispelled;it is a home that is callingto God.
However, too manypeople turn this into a domestic beauty contest,spending days and agreat deal of money topurchase the newest diyas, the most beautifulcandles. "We had 75 candles burning last night,"we gloat.
This is only the light ofglamour. It is not the lightof God, and thus the truemeaning of the holiday islost…
The light of Diwalishould be within us. Itshould symbolise thepersonal relationship between God and our families.
It should not be so weattract attention frompassing cars, or so we arethe envy of the neighborhood.
Let the light penetrate inward, for onlythere will it have lastingbenefit.

The month of KartikaDURING this month of Kartika (commencedon the 18 October and will end on the 17 November) in Vrindavana, India it is the regulative principle to pray daily to Lord Krsna inhis Damodar form.
The Damodar form refers to Krsna in Hischildhood when he was tied up with ropesby his mother Yashoda. Dama means“ropes” and Udara means “the Abdomen”.So mother Yashoda, being very disturbed bynaughty Krsna, bound him round the abdomen with a rope, and thus Krsna is namedDamodara.
Hari Bhakti Vilasa states: Kartika is thebest of months. “Kartika is always dear to theVaishnavas. O great sage, a Vaishnava whowith devotion serves Kartika delivers his ancestors from hell”. If we are interested in de
livering our ancestors, then observe Kartika.As everyone knows Lord Damodara loves
devotees. It goes both ways, it’s not that weare just serving Krsna trying to attract him,but he also is attracted by our service.
The month of Kartika is a personality justlike the holy name is a person and the deityis the personality. Doing something verysmall in the month of Kartika is multipliedby a thousand times. Lord Krsna is pleasedby the offering of a single lamp during themonth of Kartika. Lord Krsna glorifies anyone who lights a lamp for someone else tooffer. The clay lamp is our heart and the gheearound it is our Prema (love) and the burninglamp is our Bhava. Bhava means our sentiment, our mood and our emotion. We are offering our heart in a surrendered way to Rad
ha and Krsna.In the Narada Purana, it is said that of all
gifts, the gift of a lamp during the month ofKartika is the best – there is no equal. Worship of Lord Damodara during the month ofKartikaistheproperatonementforalifetimeof sins. All sins are atoned prarabhdakarma(manifest reactions), aprarabhdakarma(unmanifest reactions), kutam (dormant reactions), and bija (reactions in a seed likestate) – by worshiping Lord Damodara.

The Diwali festival celebrationstake place at the Shakaskraal Second-arySchoolgroundwithathemeof“Va-sudhaiva Kuymbakam”, meaning‘The World is One Family’.
Festival organisers have added anextraday to theevent thisyearandwillbe introducing new features aswell asincorporating the best of the previousfestival.
Public relations officer, DooshieGovender said Friday will see the an-nual community Hawan take placewithlocalleadersandpunditsfromdif-ferent Hindu temples and organisa-tions.
“Onehundredhawankundswill bepreparedwithdevoteesof thecommu-nity invited to take part in this selflesscontribution. In addition there will beofferings of prayer for health, peaceand prosperity.”
OnSaturday evening therewill be alarge fireworks display lighting up theShakaskraal skyline this will be sup-ported by the Pravesh Sunker ShowBand (Radio Hindvani).

Stanger and District Volleyball Asso-ciation corporate knockout tourna-ment after trouncing Teachers Styleinstraightsets (2-0) in thesemi-finalsplayed at the association courts onWednesday.
Former Grove End stalwart andKwaZulu-Natal schools volleyballcap, Avinash Mahadeo set the courtsablazewithabazooka tomarkhis re-turnintheopeningsetoftheirsemi-fi-nal clash against Powertrans.
Stalwarts Neil Perumal, PreggiePillay,RajNaidooandMahadeocom-bined superbly to give Grove End acommanding 15-6 before Power-trans started to find their feet. Theygradually started to put points on the
board through the sterling effort ofAhmed Essack and the lanky NeilBageloo. Despite a catalogue of un-
forced errors Grove End cantered toa fluent 25-20. Powertrans re-grouped at the start of the second set
a semi-final clash against YashinTewary’s Teachers Style outfit.
Teachers, who played second fid-dle toGroveEndthroughout the2013seasonbattledtogettheiracttogetherand were staring at the barrel of de-feat midway into the first set aftertrailing 0-12.
After 13 successive attempts,Teachers finally broke serve beforeaddingafewpointsonthescoreboardthrough playmaker Ron Reuben.
The absence of Shawn Naidoo inthe Teachers line-up left Tewary’schargesvirtuallycrippleinattackandwere far too reliant on the unforcederrors of their opponents.

ers like a bad rash as they romped toa comfortable 25-12 win.
Despiteahostof substituteson theTeachers bench, the starting line-upremained unchanged at the com-mencement of the second set and itcame as no surprise when they suf-fered a humiliating 9-25 defeat.
Tonight (Wednesday),Powertransand Team Style will contest the sec-ond semi-final at 7.30pm, with thewinner needing a miracle to over-come Grove End in the final which isscheduled for 8.30pm.

SANCHEZ Spur has given Stanger and District Volleyball Association (SDVA) a hugeboost injecting a whopping R5 000 into theforthcoming knockout tournament whichgets underway on Thursday 31 October.
President of SDVA Isaac Abraham expressed his sincere thanks to Evelyn Govender (CEO of Sanchez Spur) on her magnanimous gesture in promoting volleyball inKwaDukuza.Abrahamsaid:“Wearedelighted to have forged links with Sanchez Spurand hope that our relationship will last foryears to come”.
Twelve teams (social and competitive)will contest the inaugural Sanchez Spur KOCup which is scheduled to get underway on,31 October. The quarterfinals and semifi
nals will take place on Tuesday, 5 Novemberwith the final scheduled to take place onThursday, 7 November.
Participation in the tournament is free ofcharge. All four semifinalists will receive ameal and cold drinks (courtesy of SanchezSpur) immediately after the final with prizesawarded to the winners and runnersup.
The presentation of prizes will be doneat Sanchez Spur.
KSST, who surrendered their leaguecrown to Grove End will be hoping to avengedefeat in the Sanchez Spur KO Cup. Randsons and Warriors Sport should not be ruledout for honours. Social league teams expected to make a strong bid for honours areTitans and Team Style.
Apart from injecting a handsomeR5 000 sponsorship, Sanchez Spur hascommitted its upliftment to club volleyballin the next year commencing in February.
Each social and competitive leagueteam will have an opportunity of doing ashadow shift on a Tuesday evening commencing in February 2014. Govender said:“Players and officials of the club will comekitted in their club colours and serve guestsand patrons throughout the night. Ten percent of the turnover for the night will be donated to the club.”
Abraham was delighted with the ideaand urged players and officials to take advantage of the opportunity of generatingfunds for the club in the new year.

Cup after trouncing Dawnview byfive-wickets in the final played atManor on Wednesday.
Thehostswere in forarudeawak-ening intheirsemi-finalclashagainstLee Primary of Darnall. Lee skipper,Phumlani Khuzwayo elected to batfirst after winning the toss.
Lee openersKhuzwayo andLethufrustrated theManorbowlersputtingon 12 runs in the first four overs. In
the fifth and final over, Khuzwayoshowedscantrespect forManor’s ris-ing cricket star, Alex Pillay smashingthe fast bowler for fourboundaries totake their tally to 29/0.
After being punished by the Leeopener, Pillay returned the favour,smashing the first five deliveries tothe boundary to give thehosts a com-manding 20/0 at the end of the firstover.
Manor needed just four balls tosend Lee crashing out of the tourna-ment thanks to Pillay who scored a“quickfire” 26 runs which includedsix fours.
In the second semi-final, KwaDu-kuza Primary lost the toss and wereasked to bat first against arch-rivalsDawnview.
KwaDukuza Primary were re-stricted to 25/2 in their allotted 5-overs with Mayuren Logenathanscoring an unbeaten 21 runs whichincluded two fours and a huge six.

KwaDukuza Primary were sentcrashing out of the tournamentthanks to some sloppy bowling and
fielding which comprised of morethan 11 runs. Dawnview raced to anemphatic five-wickets victory withtwo overs to spare.
In the final, Manor won the tossand asked Dawnview to bat first.
Thevisitorsposted25/4intheiral-lotted 5-overs. Keanin Sattiah (10)top-scored for Dawnview. Jaden Pil-lay was the destroyer-in-chief forManor claiming 2/4 from 2 overs.

Chasing 26 runs for victory, man-of-the-match, Pillay smashed a bril-liant undefeated 24 runs which in-
cluded five4’s to inspireManor tovic-tory. Pillay was voted batsman of thetournament with Nikhil Singh grab-bing the bowling accolade.
Medalswereawardedtothelosingsemi-finalistswith trophies awardedto the winners and runners-up.

The winning school from each ofthe 12 municipal districts convergedat the Old Mutual Sports Hall on Fri-day 11 October to participate in thethree-day festival.
