Started from her art studio in 1996, Darcie Kent Vineyards produces world-class, vineyard-focused wines from very particular vineyards in the Central Coast of California. 5th generation vintner and artist Darcie Kent paints each label, and runs the winery with her two daughters, Amanda and Kailyn Kent, 6th generation. Made from the vineyard of, yes, THAT John Madden. © 2014 Darcie Kent Vineyards, Livermore, CA www.darciekentvineyards.com Merlot, Picazo Vineyard, 2009 The vintage: ‘09 showcases a bright red cherry nose, deepened with aromas of ripe plum, ground cinnamon and nutmeg. A classic pit-fruit palate gives way to a bay leaf and wild-brush finish. Soft but persistent tannins, and a backbone of acidity last the legnth of each sip. The winemaking: Hand harvested, then cold soaked for 3 days. After a 10-14 day fermentation, it was basket pressed, then aged for 20 months in 100% French oak.
