Arrival and Starter Activities

There is lots of variety within the faculty in this area! Here is alist of examples…

Greeting and Registering at the door is vital! Establishing regular routines – such as collecting folders and books or setting out folders on tables (a subtle seating plan) at the start always helps!

Discussion about News Headlines or play a short video followed by discussion! We also use Newspapers and spend time reading them with students!

Use of faculty website www.ebitnow.com as a base for latest news articles and sharing of starter activities!

Competitions and Video based starters can be set from the website! Imagine 15 students with headphones on watching Dragons Den and making notes!

The Faculty also uses Q&A, Recaps and Revision Tests to help focus minds before getting into the main part of a lesson!

Wordsearch and other quizzes – We like to use a question at the top of the wordsearch and the answers contained within the search! You could then ask students to define the words using a dictionary or Google. Wordsearches can be differentiated by giving the students the words to find or not!
