Welcome to the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires 2009-10 State Championships. The WIAA Executive Board, staff and member schools share a common goal of providing interscholastic activities that enrich the lives of our students and foster lifelong learning experiences. That goal ties in well with the message of the

WIAA -- preparing youth for life from one generation to the next. Core values such as tradition, integrity, pride, fairness and participation have guided the Association over the past century and will continue to shape student-athletes each year.

This event is the result of determination, commitment and hard work throughout the course of a season by many people. The message we can all take from these events is the pride, teamwork and sportsmanship that these students and coaches have demonstrated along the way.

Please remember that sportsmanship and citizenship are the ultimate goals of our interscholastic activities programs, whether it is at practice or during competition. I encourage you to do your part by cheering on all participants at this state championship event. By doing so, you are contributing to a wholesome event that is fun for everyone involved - student participants, officials, coaches and fans.

Join the crowd. “Just Play Fair!”, enjoy the event and cheer your team on!

Sincerely,

Mike A. ColbreseExecutive Director of the WIAA

Congratulations to all Participants of the 2009-10 WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires State Championship Events!

The Washington Officials Association salutes all participants in this year’s WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab State Tournament. The hard work and dedication needed to make it to this point in the season is commendable. Enjoy and cherish the memories that will be created through competition during the state tournament.

Although the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab State Championship Tournaments are often the highlight of an individual’s officiating season, the WOA recognizes all the officials who work throughout the season, day after day and night after night at WIAA member schools. Without these individuals, there would be a piece missing from the puzzle of interscholastic activities. Individuals who choose to

officiate do so in order to stay involved in athletics and to give something back to an activity they have found to be beneficial.

If you are interested in becoming involved in interscholastic athletics through officiating, please contact the WOA office (425.687.8009) or visit the WOA Web site (www.woa-officials.com) for more information.

Have a great tournament!

Todd StordahlWOA Commissioner

WOA COMMISSIONERS LETTER

Welcome to the 2009-10 WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires

State Championship Tournament

Congratulations to all participants in the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires State Championship Tournaments! In partnership with Les Schwab Tires, it is an honor to serve as co-title sponsor of a program that cultivates and recognizes so many dedicated and talented young scholars, athletes, musicians, thespians, dancers and their coaches. The roughly 400 Dairy Farmers of Washington who raise their families and operate dairy farms in communities around the state recognize the hard work, commitment and discipline that have brought you to this year’s state championships. We salute

your accomplishments and the example you set for your classmates and communities. Although you have just begun your life’s journey, the Smart Choices you have made inspire excellence, as well as high moral and ethical standards. Regardless of the outcome of each of the 2009-2010 State Championship Tournaments, the leadership qualities you have acquired, the skills you have attained, and the many relationships you have developed through team participation and competition will continue to enrich your life far beyond your high school years; and they provide a solid foundation for realizing the goals you have set for yourself. The Dairy Farmers of Washington wish you well throughout the 2009-2010 state championship tournament season and in all that you aspire to throughout your life.

Sincerely,

Kima Simonson2009-2010 ChairBoard of CommissionersWashington Dairy Products Commission

Welcome to the WIAA State Tournament. Congratulations on proving to be among the best in the state this year. I encourage all players, coaches, spectators and officials to do your best and enjoy your state tournament experience. You have earned it! Sportsmanship is an important part of any interscholastic contest. It is important to remember that all contests are an extension of the classroom. Therefore, values such as respect for self and others, fairness, self-discipline, and responsibility should be an integral part of any high school game. Please help us promote respect for all by displaying positive sportsmanship throughout the tournament. The WIAA Executive Board would like to wish all of you the best of luck in this year’s state tournament. We encourage you to leave here with many fun memories of this experience. Play hard, cheer with positive enthusiasm and represent your school and community with pride and dignity. Again, congratulations and good luck!

Joe Feist, PresidentWIAA Executive Board

Welcome! Your Les Schwab Tire Centers are proud to support the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and our students by being a title sponsor of the WIAA championship events. For over 56 years, Les Schwab has been proud to serve our local communities where our customers and employees live and work. We believe strongly that our future lies with our great young people. Today, throughout the state, Washington has 400 high schools serving over 327,000 students. These schools help provide

valuable education for our youth both in and outside the classroom. Through everyone’s efforts, we help provide important life skills that help make Washington a better place to live. So often in life, the difference between success and failure has to do with our attitude. It’s about dedicating yourself to working hard and doing your best. At Les Schwab, we like to call it pride in performance. Although not everyone can earn a first place medal, as participants, each student is a winner for having the courage to get involved and for learning the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship. Thank you once again for coming. We hope you enjoy all of today’s activities.

Sincerely,

Les Schwab Tire Centers

My thanks to Don Davison, former Sports Editor of the Tacoma News Tribune for keeping such accurate records of scores, sites, and dates of games played from 1973 through 1986. Without his diligent record keeping this project would have been infinitely more difficult.
