Twenty-seven folks in 15 cars joined us for a country drive, lunch at the original (and we think the best) Hard 8 Barbecue in Stephenville, and a tour of the Veldhuizen Cheese Factory in Dublin. We began our cheese experience by sampling easily more than a dozen types of premium, delicious cheese, some we have never tasted before. After our cheese tasting, cheese-maker Stuart Veldhuizen went through the highlights of the cheese-making process and explained the equipment in the cheese room. We then took a short walk to the cheese-aging cave, where Stuart pointed out the types and ages of the vari-ous cheeses in the cave. Next was the blue cheese aging room, literally made of paper and some Portland cement to effi-ciently maintain a constant 50-degree temperature inside de-spite the Texas heat. We also saw and petted the baby calves that will eventually become productive members of the dairy herd. Next, Stuart showed us the parlor where the cows and sheep are milked. Back at the cheese store, we purchased cheeses to take home. Many, if not everyone, bought some cheese, cut to order and as fresh as can be. Still full of that great Hard 8 Texas BBQ and cheese samples, we set up our lawn chairs, relaxed, and enjoyed some wine and camaraderie. Of course, more cheese samples comple-mented the wine. After the social, we drove back home on our own.

The Fort Worth Section's 2017 Holiday Dinner-Dance was held at Fort Worth’s famous Colonial Country Club. Arriving members were welcomed with an hors d’oeuvres reception, giving everyone a chance to catch up and get to know new folks. We sat down to a nice 3-course dinner, which featured a Duet of Filet Mignon and Sea Bass as the main course. After dinner, gamemaster Larry Vaughn kicked off Rudolph’s Nose Game. Teams were formed and each team member popped Ru-dolph’s red foam nose at the target by squeezing his belly. The three teams with the most points won prizes for each member. After the usual pandemonium, the scores were tallied and the proud winners emerged. They were: 1st Place: Team K - Ernest Borroel, Ana Graves, Rhonda Wil-liamson and Bruce Parrott. Each member won a large Mercedes-Benz duffel bag. 2nd Place: Team J - Chris Watt, Lois Parrott, Martin Branville and Liz Gardner. Each member won a Mercedes-Benz stemless wine glass set. 3rd Place: Team H - Pam Fix, Jerry Hathaway, Bryan Schrepel and Jerry Reier. Each member won a Mercedes-Benz wine stop-per. The rest of the evening was spent on the dance floor to the beat of music selections played by our DJs, Wen & Lily Grio. Special thanks to Kris Ikejiri, whose photos captured the spirit of this event.
