Lockdown is difficult for everyone, but it can be even harder if you don’t feel safe.It is important to know who to call if you are worried about yourself, a friend, a family member or your neighbours.

Many of you may be familiar with Louis de Bernières best known for his novel Captain Corelli's Mandolin. We are pleased to announce that Pen to Print will be hosting an event with Louisduring ReadFest 2020.

Famous names this year include Spring Watch's Chris Packham who will be kicking of ReadFest with a talk in the Barking Learning Centre Garden. We are also featuring acclaimed authors Lemn Sissay, Adele Parks and B A Paris with Alice Feeney.

We will be using the badge below and artists from Barking and Dagenham are creating materials that will be shared on social media and printed onto leaflets and posters.

Woven CD Dream CirclesA fun weaving project for all ages Warning - Pack includes small items, please keep away from children under the age of four.

You will need• CD• Scissors• Beads• Wool• Marker pen• Needle – wrap the end of the wool in tape or make a needle with a plastic lid

- Cut a piece of wool around 1.5m long.- Tie this to the back of your CD (side with the writing).- Wrap your wool an odd number of times around your CD.- Keep the wool tight and then tie off the end.

- Go over one wrap string and then under the other wrap string. - Repeat the weaving process keeping the wool tight.- When you switch wool, tie the new wool to the old wool and then trim.

- Cut a piece of wool around 1.5m long.- Tie your wool to the wrap string on the back.- Pop the wool through the hole to the front side.- Wrap the end of the wool with tape or attach your needle.

- When finished, tie your wool to the back.- Use a marker pen to add your final touches!- Cut your wool and attach the beads, you will need a knot in each end.- Tie to the wrap string on the back.

Giant Dream Circles

Create a beautiful dream circle - ideal for those that love to craft

You will need• Hula Hoop• Wool• Knitting needles or crochet hook, if needed

Binding your circleUse your wool to wrap your circle – you can use one or more colours.

Create your circleThe circle inner can be knitted, crocheted or weaved, the possibilities are endless.

Attaching and completing your circle It’s now time to attach your inner and complete your dream circle.

Secure your wool with a double knot.

Keep wrapping then, at the end, tie off with a double knot.

Wrap the wool round a few times and keep tight.

Try using different coloured wool for a different effect.
