We are in Kingdom of Bahrain, an archi-pelago of Persic Gulf bordering on Saudi Arabia and QatarSTFA is realizing a project for Jan De Nul NV this consists in designing and realizing infrastructures and flooring on see level for an extension of 41 Km. Also building two moorages, respec-tively at North and South side of the en-tire construction, in addition all the nec-essary structures for ferry-boats docking.The hardest part of the job to realize the raised road consists of main bridge with a length of 2.4 Km, five bridges 180 m each and eight channels structured by 250 ele-ments 5mx3mx3m. Leica Geosystems challenge was to create a GPS guiding solution to maneuver the Pontoon to transport the excavator exactly on project areas. Also a GPS guiding solu-tion for the Excavator mounted on the Pontoon, that displays in real time dredging op-erations updating project plan. The entire solu-tions had to be designed to up stand environ-mental conditions, both in daily high tempera-tures ( more then 50°C) and high dust concentra-tion.
