Subsequent to the directives issued by University Grants Commission and University of Pune,faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences constituted an Expeft Sub-Committee (notified by letter noCB Pharm.l6274 dated 03/l l/2009) comprising following members to repofi on Syllabi, Model
Question Paper, Instructions / Guidelines to Examinees, Paper Setters & Examiners for theconduct of examination in Paper-II of specializations in Pharmaceutical Sciences for the purposeof preparing order of merit for admission to Ph. D. Programme in four major branches ofPharmaceutical Sciences.

The committee has studied the syllabi, rules & regulations of entrance examination for Ph. D.& postgraduate programmes in Pharmaceutical Sciences of various Universities within Indiaand abroad. The committee has prepared this report taking ':n to consideration, the facts that adesiring candidate for Ph. D. degree should have aptitude for research, interpretation abilities,analyical thinking, problem solving approach, broader knowledge base and conversant withstatistical methods.
R-I: APPLICABILITY OF THIS REPORT:
The contents of this report are applicable to prospective candidates, paper setters & evaluators,the authorities appointing paper setters & evaluators and other staff involved with the conductofproposed entrance examination in Paper-ll of specialization in Pharmaceutical Sciences ofPh.D. Entrance Examination of University of Pune.
R.II GENERAL:
There shall be four question papers for four broad branches of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Thecandidates shall have to select anyone of the following papers of specialization for appearingat PaperJI of Ph. D. entrance examination.

R-III ELIGILITY AND ADMISSION OF CANDIDATES:
Admission shall be open to candidates who fulfill the following requirements:
l.l A candidate must have passed the Post Graduate Degree Examination in one of thesubjects of specialization in Pharmacy after obtaining basic degree in Pharmacy from
University of Pune or any other University from India or abroad recognized by UGC in the
discipline concerned with minimum of 5Oo/o marks in aggregate.

Note:l. Three questions of one mark each shall be drawn from syllabus of each subject ofspecialization i.e. PYOI, PY02, PY03 and PY04 for section I of each paper of specialization.Thus, totalingl2 marks for section-l from syllabi offour subjects of specialization.
2, Two questions ofone mark each shall be drawn from four sections ofthe syllabi common orall branches of specialization Thus, totaling 8 marks for section I from common syllabi for allfour subjects of specializalion.
R-X: APPOINTMENT OF PAPER SETTERS & EYALUATORS.There shall be a board of five members for paper setting. Out of which, one shall be a Chairman.The four other paper setters should be from four subjects of specialization. Out of five memberson board, three shall be the teachers from affiliated colleges of University ofPune. They will bereferred as internal members. Out ofthese three internal members, one shall be a Chairman oftheboard. Remaining two shall be University teachers or teachers affiliated to colleges other thanUniversity of Pune. They will be refered as Extemal members. All members of the board shallattend the meeting for paper setting at a place as may be notified in the letter of appointment. If,it is inconvenient for anyone the members to attend the meeting, the meeting shall be postponedfor a" suitable date & time as may be conveyed by the Chairman. In case, any member" of theboard expresses his/her inability to work as a paper setter, new appointment shall be made inhis/her place. In any case, minimum one member shall represent to each subject of specialization.No meeting ofthe board shall be considered valid unless all paper setters present for the meeting.As the section- I of all subjects of specialization shall be common and four paper setters shall befrom four subjects of specialization, one board of five paper setters shall set the question papersfor all subjects of specialization.

The board of paper setters shall be prepared by the University and updated from time to.time.
The BUTR shouid prepare and recommend the board of 15 paper setters &_ evaluators without
girirU -V order of preference to the Vice-Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor shall approve fwe ofit "-l ori of which one shall be Chairman. The Vice-Chancellor shall also approve suitable
number of evaluators from remaining 10 members'
R-XI: MODEL QUESTION PAPERS & MODEL ANSWER BOOKS'
Based on the criteria given in the rule R-VI & R-IX, the model question papers for PY0l, PY02,
PY03 and PY04 are given in Annexure III. The board shall prepare and submit three sets of
question papers to the University. The model answer book is required to be submitted by the
board immediately after the examination is over. The model answer book shall be made available
to all evaluators engaging in the evaluation work.
R.XII: CRITERIA FOR INCLUSION OF THE NAMES ON THE PANEL OF PAPER
SETTERS & EVALUATORS.The criteria for inclusion of names in the panel of paper setters and evaluators shall be as
under.
A futl time regular University teacher or teacher of the Pharmacy College affiliated to any
University recognized by the UGC from the State of Maharashtra and/or should be a recognized
Guide for Ph. D in the Pharmaceutical Sciences or anyone ofthe specializations of the
pharmaceutical Sciences and possesses minimum 15 years of teaching experience at UG/PG
level
R.XIII: INSTRUCTIONS TO THE PAPER SETTERS
a. The paper setters should follow the general & specific instructions given in the
appointment order issued by the University'
b. The paper setters should strictly adhere to the structure of question paper as given in
the Annexure- Ic. All questions lrom section-I shall be MCQs with four options for each'
d. euestions for section-l shall be drawn from the entire syllabus as given in annexure-Il
with distribution & weightage given under R-IX.
e. euestions for the section-ll shatt be drawn from the syllabi of the respective subject
of specialization and common syllabi for all specializations'
f. The paper setters should design the questions so as to judge

ofthe candidates appearing for Ph. D. entrance test.
R-XIV: INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

The general & specific instructions for the candidates appearing for the Ph. D. entrance test
shall be issued by the University through suitable notification in the news paper and made
available on University's official website at appropriate time.
R-XY: INSTRUCTIONS TO EVALUATORS
The evaluators should follow the general & specific instructions given in their appointment
orders issued by the UniversitY.
R.XVI: STANDARDS OF PASSING AND DECLARATION OF RESULTS
To declare pass in Paper-ll of subjects of specialization in Pharmaceutical Sciences, a candidate
should have obtained at least 50% of the marks for open category, 45 Yo fot physically
handicapped and 40 %o for SC/ST category in the paper of specialization. The list of successful
candidates shall be prepared in order of merit. This merit list shall be used as one ofthe criterion
for determining the overall order of merit fqr admission to Ph. D programme.
R-XVII: MISCELLANEOUS
This report be tabted in the meeting ofthe faculty and upon approval be submitted to the Dean's
Committee/Academic Council for its final approval.

1. Pharmaceutics (PY-01):
Development, manufacturing standards, Q.c. limits of Pharmaceutical products and medical
devices, labeiing of Pharmaieutical products, and the storage as per the pharmacopoeial and
other regulatory-requirements. Storage of different dosage forms and new drug delivery systems'
Biopharinaceutics and Pharmacokinetics and their importance in formulation. Formulation and
preparation of cosmetics - lipstick, shampoo, creams, nail preparations and dentifrices,
Pharmaceutical calculations'
2. Pharmaceutical & Medicinal Chemistry (PY-02):
Structure, nomenclature, classification, synthesis, SAR and metabolism ofthe following category
of drugs, which are official in lndian Pharmacopoeia and BritishPharmacopoeia. Introduction to

of phytopharmaceuticals belonging to the group of Alkaloids, Glycosides, Terpenoids, steroids,
Sioflavanoids, Purines, Guggul lipids. Pharmacognosy of crude drugs that contain the above
constituents. Standardization of raw materials and herbal products. WHO guidelines for
Standardisation. Quantitative microscopy including modem techniques used for evaluation.
Biotechnological principles and techniques for plant development, Tissue culture.

Research-Meaning, purpose, Types, (Educational, Clinical, Experimental, historical descriptive,Basic applied and Patent oriented Research) objective of research.
