Thetheoryandpracticeofhumanitarianismcontinuouslyevolvesinresponsetochangesinthe international political and economic environment and ongoing evaluation ofhumanitarianefforts.Thiscourseexploreshumanitarianaffairsthatwillplayavitalroleinshapinghumanitarianactioninthefuture.Topicswillrangefromcurrenttrendstocurrentcrises.

Allparticipantsareexpectedtoupholdthefollowingclassroomrequirements:

SubmissionoforiginalworkCredit-earning participants who have registered as non-matriculated students andsubmittedtherequiredpaperworkandadditionalfeeforcreditwillbeassessedandgivena letter grade for the course. OfferedbyFordham’s Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs and the Graduate School of Arts andSciences,theMIHAprogramcombinestheexperienceofseasonedhumanitarianprofessionalswiththe academic strength of Fordham faculty from the School of Law and the Graduate Schools ofBusiness and Social Service,who provide studentswith the political, historical, legal and ethicalcontextsofpast,presentandfutureemergencies.

Theprogramismadeupoffouradvancedmodules,whichareflexibleenoughtofitahumanitarianprofessional’s schedule. Courses are offered in one-, two- and four-week intensive sessions invarious locations around the world, including Barcelona, Geneva, Goa, Kuala Lumpur, Nairobi,Dublin, Rome, Penang, New York, and Berlin. Two credits are attributed to each week, andparticipants must complete eight total credits in each of the program’s four topic modules.Humanitarian professionals can complete the 32-credit program in 18months or as long as fiveyears,dependingonindividualschedulesandresources.
