STRATEGIC PLAN ACCOMPLISHMENTS
A Note from the Provost
Our founder, Lydia Moss Bradley, was an extraordinary woman who was a century or more ahead of her time. Not only was she the only woman to have single- handedly established a major American university, but she also displayed incredible business acumen and became one of the wealthiest American women in the late 1800s. Mrs. Bradley was a strategic thinker who prepared for the future.
Bradley’s current strategic plan represents the kind of thoughtful advanced planning that I believe Mrs. Bradley would have appreciated. The report
details some of the significant progress made by the faculty and staff to advance our 2012–17 strategic plan. We will spend the remainder of this year completing our current strategic plan while also developing our next plan.

Engineering-Business ConvergenceThe Engineering-Business Convergence Educational Model has been developed. Multiple points of convergence have been identified, such as seminars, Bradley Core Curriculum courses and convergence capstone projects.
Olympics Productions
students have participated in the Rio, Sochi and London Olympics through a new collaboration with NBC/Universal.
FulbrightsThree Bradley students received Fulbright awards in 2013–14, ranking Bradley sixth nationally among
institutions of its type in producing Fulbright students that year. Bradley faculty and students continue earning Fulbright awards annually, many of whom work with the Campus Fulbright Committee to prepare their applications.
Bradley Core Curriculum
With the new Bradley Core Curriculum (BCC) now in effect for
those freshmen and transfer students who entered the university in Fall
2016, the General Education Review/Revision project is nearing completion.
More than 140 faculty and staff were involved in the
project through subcommittees or task forces. Additionally, 37 faculty
participated in Writing Intensive and Multidisciplinary Integration course
development workshops. As of the May 2016 University Senate meeting,
167 courses have been approved for inclusion in the BCC.
EntrepreneurshipThe Entrepreneurship Innovation minor and the Entrepreneurship Scholars Program along with the School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (SEI) were established.

Student Scholarship Expo
Now co-hosted by the Office of Sponsored Programs and
the Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning, the Student
Scholarship Expo has been enhanced in several ways since 2012.
As a result, participation in the 2016 Expo was nearly double
that of the previous year, with 105 faculty members mentoring
248 undergraduate and 76 graduate students.
The students presented 187 research, scholarship or creative projects to 154 judges, including 81 from
the Peoria community.

Universitywide Assessment TeamThe Universitywide Assessment Team completed the student learning project associated with The Higher Learning Commission’s Academy for the Assessment of Student Learning. The committee developed a rubric for assessing programmatic assessment plans and began meeting with departments and colleges about their plans. Academic Program Review guidelines were updated and will be ongoing as part of the Academic Program Review process.
College of Liberal Arts and SciencesLAS has been involved in a number of activities throughout the strategic plan. One of the most memorable was the yearlong collaboration on the international humanitarian law project between two teams of Bradley students and the Central Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross.
International Graduate Student RecruitmentAs the university has increased recruitment of international graduate students, webinars and other follow-up mechanisms have been established to maintain contact with prospective students after recruitment trips. Bradley currently enrolls graduate students from Australia, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Columbia, Czech Republic, Eritrea, India, Iran, Mongolia, Nigeria, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Peru, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Sudan, Switzerland, Thailand, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, United Kingdom and Venezuela.

College of Education and Health Sciences Online ProgramsOnline Nursing and Counseling programs were developed and launched through a partnership with Pearson-Embanet. The first online programs to be offered by the university, they include Bradley’s second doctoral degree, the Doctor of Nursing Practice. As of September 26, 2016, 413 students are enrolled in online programs.
Library RenovationsThe Cullom-Davis Library is undergoing a $2 million renovation that includes new electrical, cameras and furnishings, as well as study and instructional spaces for students. The result is a complete facelift for the first and second floors.
Green InitiativesBradley has enhanced green initiatives since 2012, beginning with an increased number of recycling bins across campus, resulting in new highs of recycling tonnage. Additionally, electric car charging stations were installed, a Zipcar vehicle sharing program was initiated, bicycle racks were added, Westlake Hall received LEED Gold certification and the Hayden-Clark Alumni Center received LEED Silver certification. Food service also has implemented a number of green initiatives, such as weekly leftover food donations to Illinois Second Harvest, reusable takeout containers, recycled non-bleached napkins in dispensers and biodegradable plates and bowls.
Student DiversityThe incoming 2016 freshman class is more ethnically diverse, at 26.8% (+11% over the 2012 freshman class).
Safety and SecurityMany safety and security upgrades have been implemented since 2012. One of the most notable is the Hilltop Safety Cruiser transport program. In the 2015–16 academic year, the program provided more than 33,000 rides to students, faculty and staff. The Safety Cruiser was launched November 27, 2012, and a second van was added October 31, 2014.
Other improvements include turnstiles in the library and other security enhancements for Heitz Hall, Westlake Hall, Bradley Hall, Geisert Hall, Morgan Hall, Main Street Commons and the St. James Apartments. The Bradley Police Department has collaborated with the City of Peoria to enhance safety and with Student Affairs to provide more opportunities for officers and students to interact.

Center for Teaching Excellence and LearningOver the past three years, the Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning (CTEL) has focused on four broad areas of professional development: new faculty, teaching with technology, Bradley Core Curriculum and teaching/research. Participation in the Spring Forum, book groups and teaching tips has steadily increased over three years’ time. CTEL relies heavily on faculty and staff participation, and the number of Bradley faculty/staff providing university service through CTEL has increased significantly over the past two years.
New BrandingThe Department of Athletics unveiled a new logo and mascot. The Office of Marketing and Publications created a new university logo system and established extensive Identity Standards that provide guidelines for the proper use of the logo variations, as well as detail the licensing program for merchandise with the Bradley name and/or logo. Visit bradley.edu/identity for more information.
As the university nears the end of this strategic plan cycle, it is time to begin thinking about Bradley’s future — together. Everyone’s input is vital to helping ensure all perspectives are represented, that all ideas are considered and that all voices are heard. Watch your email for information on how you can participate, and visit bradley.edu/strategicplan for the latest updates.

Residence Hall Improvements
In 2011–12, Bradley worked
with Brailsford & Dunlavey
to conduct a Residence Hall Feasibility Study. Analysis took into consideration
student input, market pricing, existing residence hall structures and
potential sites and
concepts for future residence halls. Since
the completion of the study,
over $24 million in
capital upgrades have been made to residence
halls, all falling in line with
recommendations provided
through the study and —
in particular — through
student feedback.
