In January 2019, the City of Coral Gables passed a law that prohibits the use of single-use plastic beverage straws and stirrers in City facilities/parks, by city contractors/vendors and by any person or entity receiving a special event permit from the city. This ordinance becomes

effective on July 9, 2019, following a six-month educational and outreach campaign.

You Can Help the City Lead by Example! Skip the plastic straws and stirrers. Why? Because 5 minutes on your drink can mean 500 years in our ocean.If we don’t stop it now, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050.

Please note: Compostable and biodegradable petroleum or biologically based polymer straws/stirrers are NOT considered sustainable alternatives.

En enero de 2019, la Ciudad de Coral Gables aprobó una ley que prohíbe el uso de los sorbetes y agitadores plásticos de bebidas de un solo uso en las instalaciones/parques de la Ciudad, por los contratistas de la Ciudad/proveedores y

por cualquier persona o entidades/subcontratistas que reciben un permiso de evento especial de la Ciudad. Esta ordenanza entra en rigor el 9 de julio del 2019, después de concluir una campaña educativa de seis meses.

¡Dé un Buen Ejemplo! No utilice voluntariamente los sorbetes y agitadores de plástico. ¿Porqué? Por que 5 minutos en su bebida puede significar 500 años en nuestro océano. Si no lo detenemos ahora, en el 2050 habrá más plástico dentro del océano que pescados.

*Se aplican ciertas excepciones, como las solicitudes de ADA, los eventos especiales para 100 personas o menos, o los sorbetes incluidos en las bebidas pre-empacadas.
