Street Teams Toolkit
Thank you for organizing a street team! Your commitment to the Vote 4 Education campaign is helping to ignite a movement of Arizonans committed to ensuring a world-‐class education for every student. This step by step guide has been created to help you plan a successful street team canvassing event. If you have any questions or need more information, contact us at [email protected] and we’ll get you the information and gear you need to take the message of educational excellence for all to the streets! Please note that Vote 4 Education is a non-‐partisan education advocacy campaign. Vote 4 Education does not endorse any candidates. Street teams spreading the Vote 4 Education message should not engage in advocacy for or against any candidate when doing a Vote 4 Education event.
Step 1: Assemble your team
Gather your friends, classmates, teammates, colleagues and neighbors. Across the state, people are talking about education. Let’s take that talk to action!
Step 2: Pick a date and time
October 10th is our state-‐wide day of visibility but Vote 4 Education actions can take place throughout the election season. Pick a date that works best for your team. Once you have a date identified, choose the time that you want to meet up and the timeframe you’ll be canvassing so your team can plan their day. It’s always good to fuel your team -‐ if possible, provide water, coffee, juice, fruits, and other energy snacks. Once you have a date and time established make sure you have a way to remind your team. An email, Facebook event page, or Evite is a great way to get reminders out and make it shareable. Encourage your team to invite their friends and family.
Example Team We Vote 4 Education Canvassing Day! When: October 10, 8am Where: Meet up at the school parking lot 1324 W. Fillmore What: Meet up for coffee and donuts, and neighborhood canvassing from 8:45am – 11:45am
Quick Tips and Information Create a timeline to make sure you plan a successful event! Send a reminder to your team 3-‐5 days before your canvassing event. Walk in groups of two or more. Stay hydrated. Wear comfortable shoes. Safety first! Be careful when crossing streets. You don’t have to knock on doors, our goal is to leave a door hanger on each door. However, if you have the opportunity to talk with individuals in your neighborhood, remember:
• Avoid discussing any specific candidates.
• If you don’t know the answer to a question, refer them to ExpectMoreArizona.org
Make sure to thank your canvassing teams and encourage them to sign up with ExpectMoreArizona.org. Share your experiences! Post
photos on our wall at Facebook.com/ExpectMoreArizona Tag @ExpectMoreAZ & use
hashtag #Vote4Ed on Twitter!
Step 3: Identify a location
A location can be your neighborhood, the neighborhood around your child’s school, your church, the mall, or even the offices/cubes at your office. The goal is to get the word out to your community, wherever that may be. Identify the boundaries to anticipate how many door hangers, yard signs, and other materials you will need. Example
Location: Super Best School Neighborhood Goal: Place door hangers on every house/apt in the neighborhood Boundaries: East of Main street, West of Fillmore, South of 1st street, north of 5th street.
Once you’ve identified your canvassing boundaries, identify an easy to locate meet up spot where your team can assemble prior to getting the word out on Vote 4 Education.
