NOTES TO ThE cONdUcTOR“Russian Sleigh Ride” is an amalgam of energetic, boisterous sleigh ride music combined with the passion and fury of Gypsy string technique. Be bold and aggressive at the frog of the bow for all accented double-stops and play into the string to get a solid bite to the bow style. Tempo and mo-mentum are critical to the impact of the quick sections, while the contrasting cantabile should dis-play warmth and expression with judicious use of rubato. This should be a rousing, uncomplicated piece to show off the musicality of the orchestra.
