DESCRIPTION

The objectives of this project is to design a complete structure of a residential building, including all necessary structural elements in the building such as: slaps, beams, columns and foundations, by applying methods of analysis and design that we have learned during our study courses in Civil Engineering especially Reinforced Concrete 1 & 2. The final design will be achieved only by trial and error, assuming the section, and then analyzing it.

1 Objectives

The objectives of this project is to design a complete

structure of a residential building, including all necessary

structural elements in the building such as: slaps, beams, columns

and foundations, by applying methods of analysis and design that

we have learned during our study courses in Civil Engineering

especially Reinforced Concrete 1 & 2. The final design will be

achieved only by trial and error, assuming the section, and thenanalyzing it.

1.2  Project description:-

The building we will design is a residential building consists

of 5 stories: Basement, Ground floor and 3 repeated floors. Each

floor includes two apartments except the basement contains one

apartment and a parking area. It is located in 7th circle area in

Amman city. It will be subjected to gravity (dead and live loads)

and to lateral load (seismic load).

TABLE 1.2: summarize area and height of successive floor.

Floor Area (m2) Height (m)

Basement 258 3

Ground floor 258 3

1st floor 258 3

2nd floor 258 3

3nd floor 258 3

Total area of the building is 1290 m2

1.3  Building codes used:-

Jordanian Building Code for Loads and Forces 2006.

Uniform building Code 97 (UBC).

American Concrete Institute (ACI) Building Code 2011.

1.4

Methodology:-

This building will be designed by using Strength Method in

which the nominal service loads are multiplied by factors to obtain

design load and the material strength is reduced by appropriate

factors. Service loads shall be used for serviceability such as crack

width and deflection.

In project II, we picked up from where we stopped in project-I, the

following items were carried out:

1- Analysis and design of slabs.

2- Analysis and design of beams.

3- Analysis and design of columns.

4- Analysis and design of shear walls.

5- Analysis and design of foundations under columns and walls.

The analysis and the design was done using both manual

calculations and Software programs for the structural elementssuch as Prokon, Etabs and spread sheets. AutoCAD program was

used for detail drawings.
