Student Behaviour Management Flow Chart The following flow chart shows the steps that will be followed by teachers when dealing with minor
behaviour which causes disruption in the classroom. Major incidents should be referred to a Year
Level Dean immediately. At the start of each semester, students will revert to Step 1.
Students should not be buddied out for something that happened in the previous lesson. Students who
do not follow the Buddy Out procedure escalate to the next step automatically. Completed buddy
forms are to be placed in Year Level Assistant Dean’s pigeon hole.
Inappropriate minor behaviour in the classroom
Essential Skills for Classroom Management
Teacher manages behaviour and aims to engage student with positive strategies
Step 1 (Buddy Out 1)

Student completes Positive Behaviour Redirection Plan (pink sheet)
Oneschool behaviour record completed
Classroom teacher contact parent/guardian (email/phone)
Record contact in OneSchool.
Behaviour is monitored by subject teacher (using agreed goals of behaviour) for the next three lessons.
Step 2 (Buddy Out 2) FYI Assistant Dean

iCARE – School Philosophy
Include and accept others
I demonstrate this by treating everyone with respect:
Making everyone feel welcome and included
Having a global perspective
Showing respect for diversity
Being ‘always worthy’
Create, imagine, inspire, innovate
I demonstrate this by following the sixteen Habits of Mind for successful learners.
Achieve our personal best
I demonstrate this by:
Taking pride in my work
Always striving for accuracy
Working with others to achieve more
Setting goals and working towards targets
Celebrating success
It is essential that I am ready to participate in the lesson and achieve to the best of my ability. I demonstrate my preparedness to learn by:
1 Having all the necessary equipment for my subjects. For example:
A notebook and/or laptop as per the subject requirements
A student homework diary (Year 7)
A fully equipped pencil case
2 Digital Readiness:
Having a fully charged laptop (charged overnight), transported in a secure case
Using a USB storage device
Having my ID Card for printing (with printer credit)
If required, bringing a mouse and headphones
Checking and managing my MIS school email account daily
3 Digital Organisation:
Checking Daymap for messages, homework and lesson notes
Backing up all school work to an external drive daily
Creating a folder on my D Drive for each subject as per teacher instructions
Only using my EQ email address to communicate with teachers
10
4 Completing all homework and assignments:
Recording all homework and assignment tasks
Developing routine study habits by allowing enough time to complete set tasks, for example,
Junior School 3-5 hours per week and possibly more during peak assessment periods
Asking for help from teachers and attend homework assistance in the library if required
Using the drafting process to get as much assistance as possible to improve my results
Using the student assessment planner to help me and my parents/carers manage my time
during the term
Submitting all tasks by the due date
Respect each other and the world
Respect for each other and our world includes how we take pride and care of our school, our individual appearance and how we present our school work. I demonstrate showing respect by:
An absence of graffiti
An absence of offensive language or images on my books or personal property
Neatly presenting my work with clear headings, dates and with an appropriate layout for the
subject
Ensuring my mobile phone is switched off or on silent and out of sight in class
Adhering to the School Dress Code
Caring for the environment, for example, putting my litter in the bin and not bringing gum to
school
Celebrating diversity and being inclusive
Enjoy learning and find humour
I demonstrate this by:
Bringing a positive attitude to learning
Embracing every learning opportunity

Important Information for Students and
Parents/ Caregivers
Attendance
All students are expected to attend regularly as part of their obligation of continued enrolment. Absences
must be explained by the parent/guardian. Students should only be absent on account of illness or
special circumstances. Students must attend sport and parents should avoid using this time to make
appointments for students. Students who have excessive absences may not fulfil the requirements
needed to progress to the next year level or receive certification from the Queensland Curriculum and
Assessment Authority (QCAA) – Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
Students must attend all timetabled classes including parades and assemblies.
All unexplained absences are recorded on student report cards.
Students who are late to school need to report immediately to the Administration Office with a note
from their parents.
Absences
Parents/ Guardians must notify the school of their student/s absence/s via
SMS message 0427 916 282 (do not use emojis)
Email [email protected]
Telephone the Absentee Line 07 3824 9280.
Please clearly state the student’s full name, home group and brief reason for absence (eg sick, holiday,
family). Advise the days and dates of the absence and expected date of return.
Leave Pass Procedure
Leave passes are only issued to students in exceptional circumstances. Generally students should not
leave the school grounds during the day and leave passes are issued on an individual basis in special
circumstances. Notes from parents detailing the reasons for leaving school early are required before a
leave pass can be issued. Notes requesting a leave pass are to be placed in the drop box outside the
student counter before school. Students are to collect signed passes at morning tea.
Parents should not arrive to collect students from the office without prior arrangements being made using
the leave pass procedure. Students cannot be easily contacted in class and require a leave pass from
Administration before a teacher will allow them to leave a class. A member of Administration cannot
leave their duties to collect students from class.
Students may never leave the school grounds without a leave pass. Consequences will be put in place
for students who leave the school grounds without permission.
Lost Property
Students are to identify and collect lost property from the school library.
14
Sick Bay Procedures
Students who become ill or have an accident during the day are to report to the Sick Bay in the
Administration Block for treatment. Students reporting during or between lessons must have a note from
their teacher.
Students who become ill are not to contact parents directly. All phone calls to parents/carers regarding
accident or illness are to be made by the school. It is a requirement of our Duty of Care that we contact
the parent. Sick Bay staff will make contact as soon as the student presents at Sick Bay.
Please make sure that contact details are kept up-to-date and include the contact details or a responsible
adult who can collect your child if parents/guardians are unavailable.
Medication at School
Long term prescription or over the counter medication – parents/carers need to have a doctor complete
and sign a Request to Administer Medication at School Form and deliver this, with the medication, to the
school.
A treatment action plan should be supplied for students with asthma or any other illness that may require
first aid assistance at school. In particular, medical conditions such as epilepsy, haemophilia, diabetes,
anaphylaxis or severe allergic reactions. This plan will be attached to your student’s records.
If your student is at risk of anaphylaxis, you will need to provide the school with a management plan that
has been developed in consultation with the parents/carers and the student’s medical practitioner.
Short term prescription medication – parents/carers need to provide a letter authorising the administration
of the medication. This letter should include directions of use (frequency and dose). Sick Bay staff can
only administer medication that is in the original pharmacy labelled container. Please note that the school
does not keep a supply of pain medication (eg Panadol) for student use.
First aid medical supplies are only issued for injuries or accidents that occur at school. If your student
requires medical supplies such as strapping tape, they must provide their own supplies.
Safety
Students are not to sit on rails or port racks.
Broken property must be reported to the office immediately. Students may be subject to costs
incurred and possible penalties.
Rooms and verandas are out of bounds before school and during breaks.
Students may access their lockers before school and during lunch breaks only.
In order to abide by Workplace Health and Safety Requirements, students are not to wear jewellery,
hair must be tied back and leather shoes must be worn at all times. Students studying practical
subjects, such as Manual Arts, will also be subject to additional safety requirements.
Students are to wear their school hat or cap when in the sun in compliance with sun safety policy.
15
Travel to and from school
If walking to school, students are to use pedestrian crossings wherever possible.
Students must wear a bike helmet when riding a bike.
Bikes must be walked into the school grounds and left in the bike enclosure.
Bikes are to be secured with a good quality bike chain and lock.
Student vehicles are not to be parked in the school grounds. Students who wish to drive vehicles to
school or ride in another student’s vehicle must present written authority from their parent/carer to
the Deputy Principal.
Student vehicles are not to be used during school hours (including at lunchtime) without permission.
The bike enclosure and the car parking areas are out of bounds.
Responsible behaviour is expected when travelling on school buses or the train. Consequences will
be put in place for students who misbehave on buses or the train.
Student conduct travelling to and from school should never bring the school into disrepute.

Students are required to wear a school hats whenever they are outside. In line with our schools’ Sun
Safe policy we recommend the maroon bucket hat (reversible to display house colour) or maroon broad
brimmed hat with Cleveland District SHS emblem on the front. The Cleveland District SHS cap may be
worn, with the brim to the front only. Hats are not to be defaced with graffiti or altered in any way. Non-
school hats should not be brought to school and may be confiscated if worn at school.
Jewellery
Students may only wear a wristwatch, one pair of small plain silver or gold matching studs in the lower
lobe of the ear or sleepers and a medical bracelet or disc if required. All other jewellery breaches
workplace health and safety requirements and is not to be worn to school. Pegs, stretchers, oversize or
dangling earrings etc are not permitted and will be confiscated if worn to school. These will need to be
collected from the office by a parent.
20
Ear Phones
Earphones, headphones, wireless ear buds (air pods) and similar devices are not to be worn at school.
Visible piercings
Other than one pair of small plain earrings in the lower lobe of the ear, visible piercings are not
permitted. Student with other piercings such as nose, lip, tongue, eyebrow, additional ear piercings,
pegs etc will be required to remove them before coming to school. If students arrive at school with
visible piercings, they will be asked to remove them and the object will be confiscated. If the piercing
cannot be removed, the student will be sent home until the object is removed.
Makeup, Nails and Hair
Makeup is not to be worn. Nails are to be neat and clean. Nail polish, French tips, nail embellishments
or artificial nails are not to be worn. Hair that touches or is below the collar must be tied back at all
times. Students are expected to have a uniform length haircut. This means that hair that is short on
the sides and long on the top is not acceptable. Extremes of hairstyle such as ridges, tracks,
shaved styles (hair must be at least a three blade), spikes, top-knots or similar extreme styles are not
acceptable at this school. Hair must be one natural colour. Facial hair is not permitted and students
with facial hair are expected to shave regularly.
Tattoos
Parents of students with visible tattoos must meet with the Executive Principal or Head of School to
discuss suitable ways to cover the tattoo before the student can be admitted to any classes.
Students are subject to school rules of behaviour (and appropriate action for misbehaviour) from the
time they leave home for school until they arrive home from school.
Every child who misbehaves in school uniform lowers the image of our
school and reduces the future prospects of your child.
Our students’ behaviour in public reflects their own self respect, their regard for the school community and
our values as well as their regard for the needs and rights of others.
We require that the uniform, both clothing and grooming, be of a high standard. The school requests
parental support in this matter and asks parents to stress the importance of personal appearance.

Anti-Harassment Policy
Cleveland District State High School is committed to providing a safe, supportive environment
where cultural understanding is fostered and individual differences are respected.
The school works with students, teachers and the community to promote the values of tolerance
of, and respect for, diversity. Everyone entering our school has the right to feel safe and freely
express themselves without fear of bullying or harassment. We take direct steps to prevent
bullying by raising awareness of bullying and harassment, encouraging and supporting reporting
of incidents and addressing all concerns raised.
Definitions:
Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening.
Cyber Bullying refers to bullying that is carried out through information and communication
technologies. Examples of cyber bullying behaviour are: teasing and being made fun of;
spreading rumours online; sending unwanted messages; and defamation.
Harassment is behaviour that targets an individual or group due to their: Identity, race, culture
or ethnic origin, religion, physical characteristics, gender, sexual orientation, marital, parenting
or economic status, age, ability and/or disability. It offends, humiliates, intimidates or creates a
hostile environment.
Behaviours that do not constitute bullying include:
mutual arguments and disagreements (where there is no power imbalance)
not liking someone or a single act of social rejection
one-off acts of meanness or spite
isolated incidents of aggression, intimidation or violence
However, these conflicts still need to be addressed and resolved.
Student Responsibilities
Show respect for all members of the school community.
Speak out when you see bullying and harassment. Be a positive influence to encourage
respectful relationships.
Report to a staff member or Student Representative if you feel you are being bullied or
harassed.
Support students who are bullied or harassed by encouraging them to report the incident/s,
or report the incident/s yourself, to a staff member or Student Representative.
Support school initiatives that help to promote understanding, inclusion and respect for
everyone.
Report violence or threats of violence immediately.
22
What can I do about Bullying and Harassment?
You have to decide what you want to do. Here are some courses of action you can take:
Try ignoring the behaviour completely. If you don’t react, it may stop. Selective ignoring can be a powerful strategy but it is important that you take action if the behaviour doesn’t stop.
Tell the person (or people) bullying or harassing you that you don’t like it and that you want it to stop. Be specific about what it is that you want them to stop doing or saying.
If it is cyberbullying, block this person and disengage. Do not communicate with them online and block their friends if necessary. Do not engage with people who try to draw you back into the troubling online behaviour. This may include your own friends who may think you want to know what is being posted. Tell people that you are not engaging with cyberbullies.
If the cyberbullying continues despite your best efforts to disengage, collect some evidence like screen shots, to share with your Year Level Deputy, and make a report.
Talk to a parent or trusted adult to get advice on how to manage the situation.
If it is ongoing, tell them to stop, again identifying the specific behaviours that are unacceptable, and that you will report the behaviour to a staff member if it continues.
Make a report to a member of staff. See the Year Coordinator, a teacher or member of the school support staff who will advise you on courses of action in confidence.
Talk with the Chaplains, School Based Youth Health Nurse, Guidance Officer (Senior School) or Guidance Officer (Junior School)
See a member of the Administration, like your Year Level Deputy
What will happen when I make a report?
The person will listen to you sympathetically and keep what you say confidential.
Together, you will work out the best way to handle the situation.
If you decide not to go any further, this is all right.
If you decide that you want more to be done about it, this is also alright and the person will discuss this with you and support you in what you decide to do.
The goal will be to stop the bullying or harassment and to make sure you feel supported and empowered to manage the situation.
You may be asked if you would like to be involved in a mediation. This is a process supported by trained staff, who will make sure the behaviours of concern are identified and that each student make a commitment to stop the behaviour.
You must make another report if the intervention strategy did not cause the bullying or harassment to stop. You might make a report to the same person or seek the help of another member of staff, like your Year Level Deputy or Head of School.
If you become aware of other students who may be being bullied or harassed, it is really
important to do something about it. Talk about the situation to a teacher or another staff
member or speak to a senior student such as a Student Rep. When we support each other
and work together, we create a happier and healthier school community.
23
Appropriate Use of Mobile
Telephones and other Electronic
Equipment by Students This policy reflects the importance the school places on students displaying courtesy,
consideration and respect for others whenever they are using personal technology devices.
Cleveland District State High school has established the following Acceptable Use Policy for
mobile phones and electronic equipment that provides teachers, students and parents
guidelines and instructions for the appropriate use of mobile phones and electronic equipment
during school hours.
Cleveland District State High School accepts that parents give their children mobile phones to
protect them from everyday risks involving personal security and safety. There is also increasing
concern about children travelling alone on public transport or commuting long distances to
school. It is acknowledged that providing a child with a mobile phone gives parents reassurance
that they can contact their child if they need to speak to them urgently. Parents are reminded
that in cases of emergency, the school office remains a vital and appropriate point of contact
and can ensure your child is reached quickly and assisted in any appropriate way.
Mobile phones are to be switched off or on silent and kept out of sight during class time. A
student not following the teacher’s directions about appropriate use within their classroom will
be required to hand the device to the teacher for later collection from the office. Failure to
comply with this request will result in consequences for non-compliance with school policies
and procedures.
Acceptable Uses
Mobile phones are to be switched off and kept out of sight during classes. Head of
Curriculum may approve the use of mobile phones for educational purposes only.
During break times students should use soundless features such as text messaging,
answering services, call diversion and vibration alert to receive important calls.
Unacceptable Uses
Unless express permission is granted by the Curriculum HOD mobile phones/ electronic
equipment should not be used during school lessons and other educational activities, such
as assemblies. Students should only use their mobile phones/electronic device before or
after school or during recess and lunch breaks.
Using mobile phones/electronic equipment to bully and threaten other students is
unacceptable and will not be tolerated. In some cases it can constitute criminal behaviour.
24
It is forbidden for students to “gang up” on another student and use their mobile
phones/electronic equipment to take videos and pictures of acts to denigrate and humiliate
that student and then send the pictures to other students or upload it to a website for public
viewing. This also includes using mobile phones/electronic equipment to photograph or film
any student without their consent. It is a criminal offence to use a mobile phone to menace,
harass or offend another person and almost all calls, text messages and emails can be
traced.
No images or videos of students or teaching staff may be uploaded to any social networking
or media sharing site without the written permission from the school Executive Principal.
Student Commitment
I understand:
the responsibility and behaviour requirements (as outlined by the school) that come with
accessing the school’s ICT network facilities;
I must report and discontinue access to harmful information if presented via the internet or
e-mail;
it is unacceptable to use a mobile device (including a watch) to take photo or video of
students without the permission of the student and/or a teacher.
I am aware that:
access to ICT facilities provides valuable learning experiences for students and supports the
school’s teaching and learning programs and should be used appropriately by students as
outlined in the Code of School Behaviour;
the Executive Principal may determine that student privately owned devices may not be used
at the school;
students who use a school’s ICT facilities in a manner which is not appropriate may be
subject to disciplinary action by the school, including restricting network access;
teachers will always exercise their duty of care, but avoiding or reducing access to harmful
information also requires responsible use by the student.
25
Computer Code of Conduct Cleveland District State High School has an extensive network of computer equipment including
student laptops, school owned laptops, desktop computers, data projectors, interactive white
boards, printers, scanners and video conferencing equipment.
Students have certain rights and responsibilities in relation to the use and care of this equipment.
A high standard of behaviour and cooperation is expected at all times. Students must understand
that the computer network is a shared resource that contains information belonging not only to
them but also to other students, teachers and clerical staff. Much of the data on the system is vital
for the operation of the school and students must not do anything that would place the data at risk.
At all times students will act in line with the requirements of the School’s Responsible Behaviour
Plan for Students as outlined in Acceptable Use of the Department's Information, Communication
and Technology (ICT) Network and Systems
(http://ppr.det.qld.gov.au/corp/ict/management/Pages/Acceptable-Use-of-Departments-
Information-Communication-and-Technology-(ICT)-Network-and-Systems.aspx ).
You must not allow anyone else to use the Laptop for their own purposes, including family
members and friends. You must not tell anyone else your account name and password. You can
only have and use the Laptop at the School and at home. Upon request, the School may give
written approval for the Laptop to be used in other places.
What is acceptable/appropriate use/behaviour by a student?
It is acceptable for students to use school computers and network infrastructure for:
assigned class work and assignments set by teachers;
developing appropriate literacy, communication and information skills;
authoring text, artwork, audio and visual material for publication on the Intranet or Internet for
educational purposes as supervised and approved by the school;
conducting general research for school activities and projects;
communicating with other students, teachers, parents or experts in relation to school work;
accessing online references such as dictionaries, encyclopaedias, etc;
researching and learning through the Department’s e-learning environment.
What is unacceptable/inappropriate use/behaviour by a student?
It is unacceptable for students to:
use the IT resources in an unlawful manner;
download, distribute or publish offensive messages or pictures;
insult, harass or attack others or use obscene or abusive language;
deliberately waste printing and internet resources;
damage computers, printers or the network equipment;
commit plagiarism or violate copyright laws;
use unsupervised internet chat;
use online email services (e.g. hotmail), send chain letters or spam e-mail (junk mail)
knowingly download viruses or any other programs capable of breaching the Department’s
networks security.

Getting Connected
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Laptop
All BYOD laptops will be connected to the school network. Your laptop needs a dual band WIFI
connection. The first time your device gets connected to the school network as a guest (DETE-
Guest), you will be set up on the school WIFI network (DETE-BYOx) – this is called onboarding.
This will give you access to the internet.
Every day after onboarding, students must connect to the BYOx App. This will enable access to the
school drives and printers. The App can be downloaded only at school via the school website.
https://clevelanddistrictshs.eq.edu.au/Cocurricular/Computerandinternet/Pages/BYOD---Bring-
Your-Own-Device.aspx
School Network
When you connect to the school network via the BYOx App – you will be required to login using your
school username and password. Please see your classroom teacher (for a password reset), the ICT
Help Desk (A6) or the library staff if you have any issues. The school network allows student access
to a student home drive where you can save school documents you may wish to back up and store
separately from your computer drives (Desktop and Documents).
You will also gain access to a school network drive – known as S: drive. Your teacher will direct you
to this drive to access documents required in your subject.
Printing
At the beginning of each year, you will be allocated a nominated amount of credit for printing. Once
you have connected via the BYOx App, you will be connected to the student printers –
P2070_CanonSecurePrint (large printers in the library and other locations across the school) and
P2070_HPSecurePrint. You must select the printer for your location and ensure that you accept the
charges for the print jobs. You will be prompted if your balance nears $1.00. You will need to top
up your print balance at the Payment window when you reach $0.00.
When communicating with staff and students, you must use the school email account. To access
your email account open www://owa.eq.edu.au/ Login with your school username and password.
If your password does not work, visit the ICT Help Desk (A6) or school library for assistance.
