PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Celebrating 40yrs of Education at Newling This week the efforts of our dedicated P and C come together with the 40th Celebrations for our school. There are two significant events planned:

Reunion Gathering - Friday Evening –for members past and present of the Newling school community. This event is organised by the P and C and will be held at Armidale Bowling Club from 6-9 pm. RSVP to school or Patricia Funnell and Tracey Foster.

40th Celebrations Open Day – Saturday 11am to 2pm – A photo and memorabilia display in the hall as well as chance to look through the school and reminisce. There will be a free BBQ and refreshment available at the school.

We look forward to some of our current students coming on Saturday, in uniform, to act as ‘tour guides’ for past students and staff who are looking around our fabulous school and grounds.

Swim School This year’s Swim School will be held at TAS Pool from 1st to 12th December. Part payments are welcome up to this date. Full payment must be received before lessons commence.

We have been able to negotiate a lower cost this year and hope that with the reduced cost every single child will be able to participate in this very important program. Please return the permission note as soon as possible.

Remembrance Day The 11th day of the 11th month is significant in the lives of all Australians and at Newling we will recognise Remembrance Day with an assembly in the school hall from 10:45am this Tuesday. All parents and community are invited to join our school remembrance ceremony.

Science in the Bush Newling students had the opportunity on Friday to visit UNE and experience first-hand the science facilities while participating in a range of experiments. Days like this supplement the Science program in our school and provide students with great insight into possible future careers in Science and the opportunities UNE can offer.

Social Media Newling has a very informative and easy to use website and now this will be supplemented with the Newling Facebook page. Using social media will allow the staff to provide updates instantly on events and inform community of upcoming opportunities. Our page has just been established at present is advertising this weekend’s 40th Anniversary celebrations.

The Department of Education has clear guidelines for the use of social media which we will adhere to at all times in the interest of our students and community. One of these is the ‘Rules of Engagement’ that all users should be aware of and are posted on the home page.

If you are a Facebook user you, your friends or family might find the newsfeed or updates useful to keep up to date with

the great things happening daily at Newling.

Star Awards “You’re a Star Award” certificates were presented to a successful students who have been using the You Can Do It keys to success and demonstrating persistence, resilience, organisation, getting along and confidence.

Congratulations to our recipients: Alex, Jessica, Alex, Levi, Elizabeth and Luke.

Star Awards are presented to students who receive 14 ‘keys’ by demonstrating in the classroom the use of the You Can Do It! keys to success. Students have access to the Star room at lunchtimes during in the week they receive their star award.
