• An opportunity to communicate “it’s good to talk”.
• For students to share with you their journey so far.
• For students to demonstrate that they are taking more responsibility for their learning – this is not something being done to them!
• Teachers aren’t off limits but one to one conversations to discuss a specific concern or query are best arranged outside of SRS time.
• Student Preparation:
• Weekly reflection during Tutor Time (TT)
• Additional TT session allocated for students to finalise their presentation – guidance sheet provided.
The Purpose of SRS
Presentation Prompt/Crib Sheet
Safe practice when using technology
• Be careful what you send to anyone, once out there it is impossible to retrieve and potential employers always check what kind of person you are…
• On social media keep locations and personal details as private as possible and make sure you limit your audience to who you really want to see it and those you trust.
• Create different logins for various platforms and devices to make it difficult to access your data.
• Log out of devices when not using them to make access impossible for outside entities.
“You are not alone”
More than 7 in 10 parents have looked for or received information or advice about how to help their child manage online risks
Communicate
Keep talking and stay interested in what they’re doing. Don’t be afraid to bring up challenging issues likesexting, pornography and cyberbullying.
It could be embarrassing, but you’ll both benefit from the subjects being out in the open
Talk about online reputation
• Let them know that anything they upload, email or message could stay around forever online.
• Remind them they should only do things online that they wouldn’t mind you, their teacher or a future employer seeing.
• Get them to think about creating a positive digital footprint
