• There are 25 Colleges/Universities in New England that have CAATE accredited programs of study for athletic training

CAATE Standards

• The CAATE will do site visits to make sure that colleges and universities are maintaining high expectations and standards

• Also, schools must list a course of action that needs to be followed by each student desiring to major in athletic training and sport medicine study

CAATE Principles

• The CAATE Principles are based on a code of ethics that ensures policies of good practice

• It’s foundation lies in Honesty and Respect, Being Accountable and Responsible, and Maintaining Fairness and Integrity

• Please do not forget, as a student trainer or a professional, you are legally responsible for all of your athletes, on site or off site

• This also applies to anything they are doing under your care while they are at home (sick, injured or part of an exercise program)

Licensure and Certification

• As part of an athletic trainer education program, final year participants take a national certification exam

• This exam, and certification is governed by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)

Licensure• Once you pass your exam, and graduate from your

accredited school program, then you must apply to work in a particular state
