What is ETS Criterion?

ETS Criterion is a computer-based scoring program designed to help you think about your writing process and communicate your ideas more effectively.  It is:• Computer based• Editing/Proofreading Tool• Encourages Critical Thinking• Enhances the Revision Process

The system has been calibrated to score essays based on a national average of college-level essays.  It will give you immediate feedback and provide guidance in specific areas that need improvement.   What are your strengths and weaknesses as a writer?

How Do I Get ETS Criterion®?

Purchase the access folder "COURSE SPECIFIC WRITING PRACTICE ACCESS" by "Criterion" at the Kennel Bookstore. You must purchase this item through Kennel Bookstore - either at the bookstore or online. This "ACCESS CARD" has the serial number you need to register.  It also has valuable information about ETS Criterion®

Don’t buy more than one Registration!

Please note: You only need ONE registration number per semester.     You can use this same registration for all classes that are using ETS Criterion this semester!   You ONLY NEED TO REGISTER ONE TIME.  After that, you simply ADD CLASSES to your account.

NEW this semester!

All Access cards purchased AFTER JAN 1 2011,  will be good for 345 days or 2 semesters. That adds up to a 50% discount! To get the extension, you need to purchase a new access card this spring - old cards from last semester will not be valid.

There is now an OPEN LAB available for you so you can use Criterion® even if your instructor does not require it!

How Do I Register For ETS Criterion?

After You have Purchased the ACCESS Card, Follow these steps: Go To http://criterion.ets.org You will see the "Welcome Page

Click on "Go To Student Criterion Website"

You will see the "Access Identification-Student" Page

On this page you will fill in the Access ID and Access Password provided by your Instructor.  

Access ID is usually the course schedule number.Click "Continue."

You will see "New Student Registration." Use the serial # from the registration card you purchased at

the Kennel Bookstore to fill in the top spaces.

Fill out the information. Remember your User Name and Password! If you forget, your instructor can

access it, but you may be delayed!

You will go directly to the "Home Page" There you will find any assignments your instructor has put there for

you.

The NEXT Time You go to log on, you will click on "Log In"

Put in the User Name and Password that YOU MADE UP and click "Continue"

NOTE: Do not try to enter Class ID from your Instructor here! You will get an error message!

After logging in, click “continue,” and the next page will open to you.

Home Page

When you log on, you will see the Home Page. The Home page allows you to see all your classes, your Portfolio and any assignments your instructor has already posted for a class.

What is the Portfolio?

The portfolio view allows you to view any assignments that you have submitted or revised through ETS Criterion. You will always be able to view the first submission and the most recent revision. You will also see         The date and time of your submissions        The number of submissions Your instructor is able to see the same information

The Progress Report keeps track of your corrections so you can see what improvements you have made

at a glance!

The "Student Errors" Graph lets you know what corrections you still have left.
