BUILDING CONCEPTINITIAL SITUATION
TESCO One of the leading supermarket chains in Poland
173 markets, 20 petrol stations, 3 logistic centers
Commercial area in total approx. 427.300 m2
Approx. 23.000 employees
Total sales of Tesco Group in Poland approx. 1,4 Mrd in 2005

Target: Reduction of the Energy Costs about 20 30 %
The energy demand of the new build TESCO market in Zdzieszowice (finished in March 2007) was to be reduced by approx. 20-30% through an optimized energy management. Sun, wind and ground-source energy were to be used as natural energy sources.
TESCOs target is to reduce the energy demand of a square meter about 50 % until 2010.
-
BUILDING CONCEPT
First Pilot Project in Zdzieszowice
The new supermarket is the first one in which alternative energy sources were used to reduce the energy costs.
The pilot project had a big importance within the Tesco group and was supported

the Tesco group and was supported intensively. In the meantime further markets with the same concept have been realized.
-
BUILDING CONCEPT
Photovoltaic modules and wind generators produce electricity that is saved in batteries.

BUILDING CONCEPT
1.Photovoltaics
- 18 photovoltaic panels (ca. 5% of roof area)- Production of approx. 5,000 kWh/year
2. Wind generator
- 4 Wind Generators

- 4 Wind Generators- Production of approx. 15,000 kWh/year
Total: ca. 20,000 kWh/year
The electric energy demand of the building amounts ca. 72, 000 kWh/Year.
>> approx. 30% of the electric energy demand is generated by renewable energy sources.

ANALYSIS OF MEASURED RESULTS
Research concerning operation performance:
In cooperation with the University of Poznan the operation performance of the GAHE was measured and
analyzed over a period of one year.
The following parameters were analyzed:
- Ambient temperature
- Outlet temperature of the GAHE
RESEARCH IN COOPERATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF POZNAN

- Outlet temperature of the GAHE
- Air humidity
- Flow Speed of the air in the GAHE.
Start of Project: April 2007
End of Project: April 2008
The final report was created by the University of Poznan.

Maximum heating performance: 15 KW
Under standard conditions (Outdoor temp.: -16C) a maximum performance of 20 KW
would have been achieved
The zero points in the graph represent the deactivation of the GAHE at night
In December the highest number of operating hours (503hrs) was achieved

The GAHE was deactivated from 14.00 17.00 because the ambient temperature was higher

The log shows the need to optimize the control technique: obviously the bypass is wongly activated

In transition periods, both heating and cooling is required
Due to the frequent bypass operation, 298 operating hours had been achieved in April

ANALYSIS OF MEASURED RESULTSSUMMARY OF THE RESULTS
Annual Energy Savings from the GAHE:
Heating:
Investigated energy savings: 26,000 KWh
Calculated energy savings before installation: 20,500 KWh
Cooling:
Investigated energy savings: 9,000 KWh
Calculated energy savings before installation: 10,700 KWh
Potential downsizing of the HVAC equipment:

Potential downsizing of the HVAC equipment:
Heating: The GAHE allows a reduction of the heating unit from 48 KW to 28 KW
Cooling: The GAHE allows a reduction of the cooling unit from 38 KW to 23 KW
Operational performance:
Annual operation hours of the air conditioning: 5,100 h
Bypass Activation: 1,600 h
Annual GAHE operation:
3,500 h
(equivalent to 68,6% of the operating hours of the air conditioning).

With PP-Standard-
Material
Transported air is considered a food item according to VDI 6022/1.
The unique and patented antimicrobial Polymer pipe from
AWADUKT Thermo prevents microbe growth. The antimicrobial
effect is due to the integration of silver particles into the pipe
material.
An experiment by the Institut Fresenius (Jan 2003) confirmed the
significant reduction in microbe growth:
