The subject and the verb in a sentence need to agree or go together correctly.

One boy plays basketball.

Four boys play basketball.

If the subject is singular (only one), the present-tense verb has an –s or –es.

Dad walks me to my car.

Grandpa watches my game.

The door slams shut.
