The Fall 2004 ASPRS Specialty Conference “Images to Decisions: Remote Sensing Foundations for GIS Applications” will focus on the integration of remote sensing image data into GIS and Decision Support Systems (DSS). The intended audience is the GIS practitioner who needs information about the extraction and use of data and products derived from airborne and satellite sensors. In addition to ASPRS Workshops, the first day of the Conference will feature four sets of paired concurrent how-to seminars for novice and advanced users of remote sensing image data. In these seminars, real-world GIS and DSS examples will be presented to illustrate how images help lead to decisions. The conference will be organized around four major user groups of geospatial data: regional, state, local, and tribal. A Plenary Speaker will focus on each of these groups, followed by concurrent sessions consisting of invited papers and submissions to this Call for Presentations. who

sho

uldWho Should Attend?

Everyone involved in information extraction from image data, GIS database development and analysis of spatial data for assisting in decision making. Special effort will be made to reach out to new users of remote sensing and GIS at broad and local scales. Issues will be addressed including the need to balance natural and cultural resource preservation with economic concerns, homeland security, smart growth, emergency response, and urban planning.

Who Should Submit Abstracts? All users, producers, vendors and researchers who are interested in the incorporation of information from remotely sensed image data in GIS databases and decision support systems. This Conference is geared towards the novice and expert alike with both introductory and advanced seminars, along with plenary sessions presenting real-world applications at the regional, state, local and tribal levels of government and organization.

ASPRS Workshop ProposalsASPRS Workshops are intended to be educational. As a result, they should not to be commercials for vendor software or hardware. (User group meetings are available for vendor specific products.) Workshops should be impartial and cover a wide range of commercial sources even if a specific commercial vendor employs the instructor. Workshops can be taught as either half-day (4 hour) or whole-day (8 hour) courses. Workshops will not have more than two paid instructors. If there is more than a single instructor, one instructor will be the point of contact for the workshop.

Anyone wishing to propose a workshop for presentation (this would be the instructor) must provide the following information to the National Workshop Director, Russ Congalton at 603-862-4644 or [email protected] for instruction by March 15, 2004:

A% Workshop title

A% 500 word abstract describing the length of the workshop (half or whole day); the goals/objectives and content of the workshop; the intended audience of the workshop including whether it is introductory, intermediate, or advanced material; and, names of instructors

A% Instructor(s) brief vitae

A% Whether or not this is an established or a newly developed workshop and whether these instructors have given this workshop in the past

A% If it is an established workshop, provide a copy of the most current workbook/materials

All workshop proposals will be considered for this meeting and the National Workshop Director will notify those selected for inclusion in the Workshop Program.

In addition to considering new proposals, the Workshop Director will recruit additional workshops to complete a well-balanced program, minimizing subject overlap and maximizing the quality of the overall Workshop Program.
