clean and free of foreign substances. Do not use a container whichhas contained or been cleaned with a petroleum-based product.

    2. Mix SENERSHIELD-R with a clean, rust-free paddle and drill untilthoroughly blended. Dilution of Senershield-R is not recommended.

    3. Additives are not permitted.4. Close container when not in use.5. Clean tools and equipment with water immediately after use.

Dried material can only be removed mechanically.

APPLICATIONJob ConditionsDo not apply BASF materials in ambient temperature below 4°C (40°F).Provide supplementary heat during installation and drying period (atleast 24 hours after installation and until dry) when temperatures lessthan 4°C (40°F) prevail. Do not apply BASFmaterials to frozen or frost-ladensurfaces.

Limit the weather exposure of SENERSHIELD-R to a maximum of 180days. Verify surfaces are free of dirt, contaminants, or other deleteriousconditions before application of cladding. Report and correct any suchconditions prior to cladding application. Dry/cure times of adhesivelyapplied EPS insulation board installed over SENERSHIELD-R may beprolonged, particularly in cool and/or damp weather. Non-cementitiousadhesives are not recommended for EPS insulation board attachment toSENERSHIELD-R. Proper application is the responsibility of the user.

Surface PreparationSubstrate shall be dry, clean, sound and free of release agents, paintor other residue or coatings. Verify substrate is flat, free of fins orplanar irregularities greater than 6.4 mm in 3 m (1/4" in 10').Unsatisfactory conditions shall be reported to the general contractorand corrected before application of SENERSHIELD-R.

EquipmentUse a 20 mm (3/4”) nap roller or paint brush. If spraying, refer toSpray Application technical bulletin for spray application equipmentand application instructions.Note: If using roller application, it is necessary to pre-wetthe synthetic roller pad with water and spin out the excesswater. The pre-wetting only needs to be done once at thestart of application.

Procedure1. Substrate shall be of a type acceptable by BASF and shall be

installed per substrate manufacturer’s instructions and localcode requirements.

    2. Wrap openings with SHEATHING FABRIC by applying a generousamount of mixed SENERSHIELD-R to all surfaces and immediatelyembedding SHEATHING FABRIC, completely saturating theSHEATHING FABRIC. If necessary, apply a second coat ofSENERSHIELD-R to ensure a complete, void-free membrane.

    3. Spot all fasteners and precoat sheathing joints, terminations, inside and outside corners with mixed SENERSHIELD-R using a101 mm (4") wide by 20 mm (3/4") nap roller, brush or spray.

4.a. Immediately place and center SHEATHING FABRIC over wetSENERSHIELD-R at all sheathing joints, terminations, inside andoutside corners, as well as knot holes and check cracks that mayexist in plywood or OSB. Ensure SHEATHING FABRIC extendsevenly on both sides of the sheathing joint. Completely saturateSHEATHING FABRIC with SENERSHIELD-R.

b.Lap SHEATHING FABRIC 63.5 mm (2 1/2") minimum at intersections.c. If using roller, brush, or trowel application, allow to dry to thetouch before applying SENERSHIELD-R to entire wall surface. Ifspraying, “wet on wet” application is acceptable.

5.a. Apply SENERSHIELD-R to DensGlassTM exterior sheathing, e2XPTM

sheathing, GlasRoc® sheathing, SecurockTM glass-mat sheathing,Weather DefenseTMPlatinum sheathing, GreenGlass® sheathing,PermaBaseTM cement-board by National Gypsum and othercement-boards (ASTM C1325 Type A Exterior) and gypsumsheathing (ASTM C79/ASTM C1396) with a 20 mm (3/4") naproller, stainless steel trowel, brush or spray gun to a consistent, minimum 10 wet mil thickness that is free of voids and pin holes.A fully loaded roller pad is required to obtain a consistent, minimum10 wet mil thickness. Backrolling may be needed to produce apinhole-free film. Note: Refer to Spray Application technicalbulletin for spray application equipment and applicationinstructions.

    b. Apply SENERSHIELD-R to plywood, OSB or CMU substrate(s) witha 20 mm (3/4") nap roller or spray to a consistent, minimum 10 wetmil thickness. Prior to application of the second coat, visuallyinspect to assure sheathing surface is blister free and coating isfree of voids and pinholes. Repair if needed and then apply asecond coat after the initial coating is sufficiently dry.Note: A minimum of two (2) 10 mil wet coats ofSENERSHIELD-R is required over OSB, plywood and CMU.SENERSHIELD-R may be sprayed to a 20-mil thicknessover OSB and plywood in one wet application. Backrollingmay be needed to produce a pinhole-free film.

Drying TimeAllow to dry completely, typically 2 to 10 hours, before proceedingwith EIFS or other cladding installation. Protect from rain and fromtemperatures less than 4°C (40°F) for 24 hours.

For Best PerformancePrior to application of EPS insulation boards for EIFS or alternativecladdings, visually inspect the SENERSHIELD-R for voids, pinholes, surface deficiencies, etc. Repair deficiencies and areas that are notintact. Apply additional SENERSHIELD-R as necessary such thatSENERSHIELD-R is free of voids, pinholes, etc. All sheathing joints, terminations, inside and outside corners must be reinforced with4” or 9” SHEATHING FABRIC or SENERFLASH 4 or 9. clean and free of foreign substances.
