How to make a.... Sue Wilson Snowflake Panel Card

Page 2: Sue Wilson Snowflake Panel Card How to make a Strictly Dancing … · 2015-08-02 · Step 13. Press the paper right down to the edge so you know the paper is firmly stuck to the board

Step 1. This workshop will show you how to make distressed snowflake panel which can either be a card or why not add a ribbon to the top to hang the panel up. For it you`ll need the Sue Wilson festive collection snowflake mini striplet die set & the Sue Wilson festive collection Christmas tree greetings die set. One of the other main features is the Craft Consortium blue snowflake decoupage papers & Sue Wilson textured scored lines embossing folder.

Step 2. Place the Sue Wilson textured scored lines embossing folder through the Grand Calibur using the correct plates. Here I had temporally lost my white Creative Expressions embossing plate so I've used the Spellbinders raspberry plate and added a shim of A4 card stock whist passing the folder through the embossing machine. Just remember to never force folders / dies through the die cutting machine.

Step 3. Trim right up to the natural edge of the textured scored line panel.

Step 4. As the piece won`t fit in an small guillotine just cut along the naturally centre line of the panel.

Step 5. Now cut along the other embossed central line of the 2 smaller pieces of card. Turn the card so you have 2 squares of textured line card panels both lines going in the same direction. This just gives a different option to the wonderful embossing folder.

Step 6. Use the Adirondack gold paint dabber to distress the 2 shorter outer edges of each triangle piece. Leave the longer inner edge free of gold paint.

Page 4: Sue Wilson Snowflake Panel Card How to make a Strictly Dancing … · 2015-08-02 · Step 13. Press the paper right down to the edge so you know the paper is firmly stuck to the board

Step 7. Stick the 2 sets of squares onto a piece of pumice A4 card using the Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue. Make sure you leave a small gap so you can cut a 3mm gap all around the outside of the textured line panel.

Step 8. Select a piece of thick mount board or here the grey board you often get as backing board in a pack of card is being used. Cut the board so has a 1cm gap all around the edge so the textured lines can be seen underneath. Alternatively stick a few pieces of thick card together to make the board like panel.

Step 9. Cut a piece of the Craft Consortium blue snowflake decoupage paper just a bit bigger than the grey board.

Page 5: Sue Wilson Snowflake Panel Card How to make a Strictly Dancing … · 2015-08-02 · Step 13. Press the paper right down to the edge so you know the paper is firmly stuck to the board

Step 10. Shake the sparkle glue / glaze bottle well before pouring some of the glue / glaze into an empty pot or as on here directly onto the card..

Step 11. . Brush the Cosmic Shimmer sparkle glue, seal & glaze over the front of the board. You can also use the glossy or matt glue, seal & glaze if you would rather. Make sure the glue goes right up to the edges of the board.

Step 12. Place some of the blue snowflake decoupage paper that is slightly bigger than the board over the glue. Press the paper down and remove any air bubbles so the piece is nice and smooth.

Page 6: Sue Wilson Snowflake Panel Card How to make a Strictly Dancing … · 2015-08-02 · Step 13. Press the paper right down to the edge so you know the paper is firmly stuck to the board

Step 13. Press the paper right down to the edge so you know the paper is firmly stuck to the board. Take the sanding block and hold at an angle & sand downwards over the edge of the board to create the smooth finish to the edge of the piece.

Step 14. This will remove the excess paper but it will also make sure the paper is sealed right up to the edge of the board.

Step 15. Add some of the Adirondack gold dabber around the edges of the board. Try and get a small amount over the edge to give a lovely distressed look to the panel.

Page 7: Sue Wilson Snowflake Panel Card How to make a Strictly Dancing … · 2015-08-02 · Step 13. Press the paper right down to the edge so you know the paper is firmly stuck to the board

Step 16. Either wait until the gold paint is dry or if not do as I did and add a layer of the Cosmic Shimmer sparkle glue, seal & glaze whilst the paint is drying and you`ll get flecks of the paint in with the glaze which I have to say gives a lovely random look on the panel.

Step 17 . Add some of the self adhesive sheet onto a piece of the coconut card before attaching the festive collection Christmas tree greetings die. Also do the same on the mini striplet die with the solid die surrounding the mini die. Secure in place with some low tack tape so the dies don`t move about in the machine and cut themselves.

Step 18. Run the dies back and forth through the die cutting machine. I think I did mine 4 or 5 times. You will find the pieces stay in the card / sticky sheet but just use the Spellbinders all in one tool to poke the pieces out. Not 1 piece was stuck in the cut out and yes it`s fiddly but it`s also fun and gives a wonderful result at the end. I look at is as you couldn`t cut this intricate panel out by hand so a few minutes poking it out is time well spent.

Step 19. Also use the brush end to run over the die as this will aid the release of some of the small pieces.

Step 20. Cut a solid die shape in the sticky sheet and the white card using the large die from any of the main striplet dies Sue Wilson has produced. Also cut just a piece of white card with no sticky on it in the mini solid die piece.

Step 21. Remove the sticky backing from the large panel and place the smaller mini striplet die central to cover the middle area of the die. This will save on the mica flakes as they are only needed on the outer area of the panel.

Page 9: Sue Wilson Snowflake Panel Card How to make a Strictly Dancing … · 2015-08-02 · Step 13. Press the paper right down to the edge so you know the paper is firmly stuck to the board

Step 22. Place the panel in a lid of a craft box & tip the Comic Shimmer mica flakes over the panel. Press the flakes into the sticky edging and flick off any excess flakes.

Step 23. Cut a rectangle of sticky sheet and remove the release sheet to show one side as sticky. Place the snowflake panel over the sticky sheet.

Step 24. With the piece in a craft lid tip the Cosmic Shimmer iced snow glitter jewels over the sticky which is just under the snowflake design. Make sure the snowflake backing is still on die cut shape.

Page 10: Sue Wilson Snowflake Panel Card How to make a Strictly Dancing … · 2015-08-02 · Step 13. Press the paper right down to the edge so you know the paper is firmly stuck to the board

Step 25. Place the glitter jewels back in the pot before removing the snowflake sticky backing sheet. Tip over the Creative Expressions micro beads over the panel. Burnish the beads by pressing them into the design. before tipping the excess back into the pot.

Step 26. Remove the backing from the Christmas tree die cut piece and press it into the mirco beads which are still in the lid. Now tip the excess beads back into the pot.

Step 27. Place the Christmas tree die onto a piece of adhesive sheet on a piece of white card and run it once through the Grand Calibur in the middle of the plate and then once with the embossing plate and tan mat. This will mostly cut the outer image and leave all of the card still in the design. Use a pair of scissors to release the only solid edge of the tree shape.

Page 11: Sue Wilson Snowflake Panel Card How to make a Strictly Dancing … · 2015-08-02 · Step 13. Press the paper right down to the edge so you know the paper is firmly stuck to the board

Step 28. Remove the whole piece of backing and the small inner pieces of the sticky sheet with the Spellbinders all in one tool.

Step 29. Press the mica flakes into the sticky solid shape and set it aside.

Step 30. Wrap a piece of the gold / silver Mary arts iridescent taffeta ribbon around the centre of the texture scored line panel. This will cover the middle join area.

Page 12: Sue Wilson Snowflake Panel Card How to make a Strictly Dancing … · 2015-08-02 · Step 13. Press the paper right down to the edge so you know the paper is firmly stuck to the board

Step 31. Mat the snowflake panel onto the base using foam tape with some Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue over the foam tape.

Step 32. Raise the mica flake edged panel again using foam tape with some Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue over the foam tape. Then add the snowflake panel in the same raised manner. Add some 3d glue behind the micro tree and place it down the right hand bottom corner of the card, slightly overlapping the mica flake panel.

Step 33. Make a lovely big bow using the gold / silver Mary arts iridescent taffeta ribbon and place it on the left hand side of the snowflake panel.

Page 13: Sue Wilson Snowflake Panel Card How to make a Strictly Dancing … · 2015-08-02 · Step 13. Press the paper right down to the edge so you know the paper is firmly stuck to the board

Step 34. Cut 5 of the snowflakes out of the blue snowflake decoupage paper and stick them onto a sticky sheet over a piece of white card.

Step 35. Cut the individual snowflakes out with a small pair of scissors by just following the outline of the snowflake. Once they are cut use some of the Creative Expressions pearl moon gilding wax over the edges of the snowflakes. Also use some of the gold dabber to edge the snowflake if you require.

Step 36. Add the snowflakes at random over the design using some 3d glue for added dimension. I have cut one of the snowflakes in half and added both pieces so the straight edge falls on the edge of the card. Add a small snowflake over the knot of the bow before adding some Creative Expressions self adhesive pearls in the centres of the snowflakes.

Page 14: Sue Wilson Snowflake Panel Card How to make a Strictly Dancing … · 2015-08-02 · Step 13. Press the paper right down to the edge so you know the paper is firmly stuck to the board

Step 37. Here is a close up of the snowflakes and the pearl centres.

Step 38. The mica flakes just enhance the micro beaded Christmas

tree panel. Step 39.

The sparkle behind the snowflake design really shines through the mini striplet and finishes the project perfectly. Try using

different striplet designs or stamps to make a variation to

this design.
