PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

3-D ANIMAL DESIGN: for Grades 3-5 Explore the use of computer software to create a 3D model for an animal robot or other creature. You will learn how to use special software and explore the basics of 3D printing. The goal of this class is for you to create and print your own creature. $129 (includes material fee).

APP ADVENTURES: THE NEXT LEVEL! for Grades 3-5 and 6-9Continue your quest to make the next viral app! Whether you want to move past the basic techniques learned in App Attack or want to jump right in, we are ready for you! Students will choose from a selection of different web-based (HTML5) mobile apps and explore more in-depth programming concepts. Student projects will be accessible on a Black Rocket site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to App Stores not included. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. $162 (includes material fee).

BOAT BUILDING CAMP at Richardson Museum for grades 6-11 (Full Day)Come assist in the building process of a full sized skiff. Learn the elements of design, lofting (drawings), and station mold setup. Learn shop safety, hand and power tool skills and their maintenance. Instruction will include measuring, mathematics and displacement theory. CHESAPEAKE ADVENTURE SEEKERS Travel camp for Grades 6-10 at Chesapeake Bay Environment Center (FULL DAY)Adventure Seekers love the Chesapeake Bay! During this travel camp, we’ll explore the watershed near and far by hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, ziplining, and much more! Through our adventures we’ll learn to be great stewards of the Bay and help protect these resources for future generations. If you love adrenaline and the great outdoors, this is the camp for you! Specialty session for older campers with extended hours, 8:30 am – 5 pm. In partnership with Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center. Students are to be dropped off at CBEC. $310 (includes materials, transportation & entrance fees).

YKC 422 F6 M-F 8/7 - 8/11 8:30 am - 5 pm CBEC Staff CHESAPEAKE EXPLORERS – Travel camp for Grades 6-10 at Chesapeake Bay Environment Center (FULL DAY)Explore the wonders of the Chesapeake as we get hands-on at parks and museums throughout the watershed. Be prepared to investigate Bay ecology by boat, search for fossils at Calvert Cliffs, practice Native American hunting and fire-making technologies, assist environmental scientists with field work, and meander reeks by kayak while determining water quality, all while learning how to protect the Bay’s resources for future generations. Learn the basics of coding languages like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS through a series of web projects and design challenges each day and be on your way to becoming the next tech star! Whether you want to be the next Mark Zuckerberg or the high school student who just made $1 million dollars for program-ming in his bedroom, this course has the essentials you need to begin your journey. Using a basic digital camera, you will learn photography techniques, choose what and when to shoot, and how to edit photos. DRONE SEARCH AND RESCUE for Grades 3-5 & 6-9Drone search and rescue is a necessity for first responders around the world, adding a new layer of solutions to save lives across the globe. Now you too can take part in and learn from simulated missions during this action-packed and creative program. Participants will learn to use drones and rely on their rescue team to utilize unique vantage points and combine a multitude of images and mapping over specific areas on campus to locate victims and safely rescue them to safety. Teams will also learn invaluable lessons on how to quickly and accurately acquire aerial data that, in return, will enable them to make informed and targeted suggestions for real-world positive applications. ELECTRICIAN 101 for Grades 6 -11 Explore the world of electricity in this hands –on class. You will learn about the different types of electricity, electrical safety job opportunities and much more. ENGINEERING: BUILDING BRIDGES for Grades 6-9This is an interactive, inquiry-based, instructional camp designed to teach students about different types of bridges and the STEM principles foundations involved in their construction. This camp combines a variety of hands-on and research-based learning experiences to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different types of bridges before students construct their own models. Students will be able to compare and contrast the effectiveness of the materials and designs used, after fin-ishing each project, and modify as per their learning experience. The activities provided incorporate principles of science, history, mathematics, engineering and English/language arts. Although this camp focuses on civil and structural engineer-ing, other types of engineering and architecture will be presented. $134 (includes materials fee).

ENGINEERING: ENERGY & YOU for Grades 6 -9 (FULL DAY)Come investigate how energy works and discover how small busts of creativity can unlock huge potential for the future. Activities include: learning the various forms of energy, discover how one form of energy can be transformed into another, distinguish between kinetic and potential energy, explore how fossil fuels formed from heat and pressure, investigate how nuclear fission is used to generate electricity and understand what is meant by carbon footprint. These are just a few of the discoveries you will make. $250 (includes materials fee).

ENGINEERING: URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE for Grades 6 -9 (FULL DAY)Explore the engineering principles and design challenges that surround us in everyday life, and help plan for a better tomor-row. Explore the concept of urban infrastructure over a 5 day period as you work together to design a dream school. Many of the environmental problems we face today are the result of human actions. Mining and burning fossil fuels, clearing land for farming and other kinds of development, and manufacturing and developing industrial products have significant consequences in addition to their intended purposes. Sandals and other open-toe or heeled shoes are not permitted in culinary classes. Your child will NOT be able to attend the class if not dressed properly and safely.

If you are running late, please drop off your child in the Continuing Education office, EDC building. Instructors may not accept campers directly in the classroom.

With Parent/Guardian permission, teens age 13 and older may sign themselves out. EARLY PICK-UP If you need to pick your student up early, please sign your student out in the Division of Continuing Education Office (located in the Economic Development Center adjacent to the Todd Performing Arts Center). LUNCH AND SNACKSStudents attending either full-day program or both morning and afternoon programs should bring a lunch or purchase lunch from the cafeteria. We do NOT have refrigeration available so pack lunches appropriately. The cafeteria is open Monday through Thursday and closed every Friday during Kids on Campus if your child has your permission to purchase lunch or snacks there. Supervision is automatic for students enrolled in both morning and afternoon courses. There is no additional charge for this service. Children attending only one half-day camp are not eligible for lunch time supervision.

REFUNDS The College reserves the right to cancel any non-credit class when there insufficient enrollment. If we must cancel a class you will be notified by email or telephone. If your child cannot attend a program, please notify Continuing Education office at least one week prior to the start of class. HEALTH / EMERGENICES AND SPECIAL NEEDSHealth and Emergency Contact FormA current Health & Emergency Contact form is required for each participating child at the time of registration. A new form must be completed each year. Without this completed form your child will NOT be able to participate.

Self-Administered Medication PolicyAll prescription and over-the-counter medications must have a separate Authorization to Self-Medicate form from your child’s healthcare provider completed and provided with the medication. If your child must take medication during camp, you must schedule an appointment with the College nurse at least 2 weeks prior to camp to determine if your child is eligible to self-administer medication. Emergencies:If an emergency occurs, appropriate medical attention will be administered or 911 will be contacted and the person designated on the form will be contacted immediately.

FAQ’S (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)What is the deadline for signing up for camp? You can sign up as long as there is space available up until the Thursday be-fore the session starts. If the camp you want is full, we are happy to add you to our waitlist.

How will I be notified that my child is indeed registered for camp? You will only be notified if your child is NOT registered for camp. We do NOT send out confirmations, we ONLY notify parents if camp is full or has been cancelled. Will I receive a refund if my child can’t come to camp or if the camp has been cancelled? Yes, if you notify the college at least 10 days prior to the camp, you will receive a full refund. The College expects all programs to be presented as scheduled. However, a program can be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. A decision about cancellation is made approximately 2 weeks before the state date of the camp. You will be notified via email. In the event a program is cancelled, every effort will be made to either place your child in another program or provided a full refund. Please allow 2 weeks to receive the refund in check form.
