Camp fun for boys and girls who have had a full yearof nursery school, but will not be starting kindergartenin the fall. Activities include arts & crafts, music andmovement, story time, a multitude of manipulativesand building with small and large blocks. Indoor playis in our air-conditioned Primary building. Outdoorplay takes place in our adjoining playground andincludes sprinkler time, sandbox, water table, bicycles,balls, hula hoops, gardening, large chalkboard, paintingand time on the playground equipment. The programfosters each child’s overall development.

Enjoy summer at its best: free-spirited play, picnics,theme days and visiting performers. Day Camp offers a wide variety of sports,including archery and tennis instruction. Swimming isheld three times a week at The Connection for Womenand Families in Summit. A daily free choice time givescampers an opportunity to choose from a variety ofactivities. Day Campers are grouped by age and sex,but have plenty of opportunity to form friendships withall campers and staff.

Summer Explorations is offering exciting summer“academies” that provide children the opportunityto focus on a specialized area of interest throughdynamic week-long programs. These programs willbe overseen by outstanding Kent Place faculty andstaffed by outside professionals as needed to bestsuit our campers. Campers will spend the weekengaged in high-level instruction in their interest area.Each week will conclude with an event for family andfriends to highlight the work done by children.

Immerse your child into the Spanish culture in ahands-on experience that switch to indoor and outdoorand indoor activities. In this interdisciplinary workshop, campers will buildnine real world architectural models that demonstrateScience, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics(STEM), while discussing historical events relevantto these models. Example models include the EiffelTower, Big Ben and the Seattle Space Needle.Throughout the week, campers will strengthenand apply problem-solving skills in order to model,test, evaluate and modify their architectural models.Practical problems will be solved using science andtechnology concepts. With hands-on experience,campers will be exposed to careers that involveboth technology and engineering.

Rube GoldbergSession I: June 28 – July 2Session V: July 26 – 30Boys and girls entering Grades 5 – 10

Campers will discover their inner engineer and kick theirbrain into high gear as they create an original Rube Goldbergcontraption. This week-long summer program will developproblem-solving skills while navigating though the engineeringand design process. Campers will tinker with wreckingballs, pulleys, springs, gears and more to create the chainreaction needed!

Gravity Rides!Session II: July 6 – 9 (There will be no camp Monday, July 5)Session IV: July 19 – July 23Boys and girls entering Grades 3 – 8

Twists, turns, rolls and loops can all be explained throughthe study of roller coasters. During this week-long summerprogram, campers will explore Newton’s Laws of Motion andother basic physical science concepts. Campers will designand build their own roller coaster that will demonstrate theirunderstanding of acceleration, velocity, frictional forces,potential and kinetic energy.

Bridge BuildingSession II: July 6 – 9 (There will be no camp Monday, July 5)Session VI: August 2 – 6Boys and girls entering Grades 7 – 10

Do you love to build bridges? In this class campers will tour thebridges of the world, learn about the physics that makes themwork, investigate the materials and methods of bridgeconstruction and then build their own bridge to be tested!

Graphic ArtsSessions III: July 12 – 16Boys and girls entering Grades 6 – 11

Have you wanted to design and create a business logo,magazine cover, product ad and more? Campers will learndesign and color theory to make creations come alive. AdobePhotoshop and Illustrator will be used to take designs fromthought to digital art. At the end of the course, campers willhave a completed portfolio of their work.

Soar, Zoom and WhirlSession III: July 12 – 16Session VI: August 2 – 6Boys and girls entering Grades 5 – 10

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to design a parachutethat will keep your egg safe and then build a rocket powered carto test the acceleration capabilities against other campers. In thisweek-long summer program, campers will get a chance to exploretheir own creativity while immersing themselves in the engineeringprocess as they explore the physics of force and motion.

Web Design and Flash AnimationSession IV: July 19 – July 23Boys and girls entering Grades 6 – 11

Web design is a great introduction to the world of computerscripting and programming. In this course, campers will learncomputer languages like HTML and CSS to create websitesfrom scratch using pure code. Lines of code will transforminto stylized text, viewable images and animations to createa website that will highlight one of their many interests.Campers will make websites pop with dynamic animationscreated with Adobe Flash and design animated headers,rollovers, time-based effects and more.

Video Game CreationSession V: July 26 – 30Boys and girls entering Grades 5 – 10

Everyone likes to play video games. How about creating yourown to share with friends? Campers will use programs suchas Adobe Photoshop and Multimedia Fusion to design, createand test out game creations. This course focuses on creatingarcade and platform games. Imagine Sonic, Mario Brothers, Tetris,PacMan-type games. At the end of the course, campers will takehome a CD of their finished game. This course software and thefinished game requires a Windows OS.

The Creative Arts Workshop offers students anopportunity to unleash their creativity, energy andimagination and explore a variety of media each day.Students participate daily in five areas of interest and acamp-wide activity period, and share in performancesand art exhibits. Teachers at the Creative Arts Workshopare artists and professionals chosen for their expertiseand ability to spark creativity within their students.Special events, such as camp picnics, demonstrationsby professional artists and visiting performers, are heldeach session.

Students will be placed in five classes each sessiondepending on date of enrollment and schedulingavailability. Please make class selections when youregister online.

Creative Arts Workshop choices:• Activity Period: (Do not include in your selections.)Sports, crafts, community service projects and avariety of indoor and outdoor games provide fun,exercise and socialization for all campers.• Archery: A camper favorite! This course will show students how to shineamongst a multitude of applicants.

• Drawing & Painting: Explore and combine a varietyof drawing media such as charcoal, pastel andcolored pencil. Painting media includes watercolorand acrylic on canvas. The work and techniques offamous artists are also discussed.• Fashion Design: Design original fashions whilelearning fashion-sketching and color theory. Make-upapplication and techniques will also be included.• Knitting & Crocheting: Beginner through advancedlearners are taught a variety of knit and crochetstitches and techniques to create items such asscarves, felt handbags, cell phone covers andbaby gifts. Materials include a wide variety ofspecialty yarns.• NEW! Lights, Digital Cameras and Action!: Importphotos and/or video into a movie-making program,design a photo layout, add music, insert titles andtransitions and burn a DVD of the finished product,complete with a designed case. Our Counselor-in-Training program will help participantsdevelop lifelong skills, identify and achieve individualgoals and build skills to lead children. CITs will workand train under the current Counselors in charge.Participants will learn first aid, CPR, group and timemanagement and a variety of program skills throughfirst-hand experience with campers of different ages.

This class is designed to help girls make a successfultransition into middle school, both academically andsocially. Students learn study skills with emphasis ontime management, organization, approaching andcompleting long-term assignments, note taking, testpreparation and problem solving. Writing skills andmath review are highlighted. Discussion and activitiesaddressing social adjustment and successful interac-tion with teachers and peers help dispel concernsabout a new school situation.

Cancellation: Kent Place reserves the right to cancelany programs that do not have sufficient enrollment.

Discounts:Family Referral Discount – $100 discount for youwhen a family that enrolls in camp uses your nameas a referral.

Sibling Discount – For children who have signed up for6 weeks of camp only. Full price for first child, 5 percentoff for multiple children also signed up for 6 weeks.

Health Office: A registered nurse is on duty daily.

Meals: Tuition includes a daily lunch for those campersenrolled in Junior Camp, Day Camp, Summer Academy,the Passport Program, the Creative Arts Workshopand the CIT Program. Due to the increasing numberof campers with allergies, peanut butter is not servedin our dining hall. Camp programs and lunches aredesigned for our general population of campers,therefore, we are not able to individualize dietsor programs.

Withdrawals: Withdrawals must be made in writingby May 1, 2010, to receive a refund of the 50percent tuition deposit. A $100 administrative feewill be charged. After May 1, the deposit becomesnonrefundable. The balance of the tuition is due byJune 1, 2010, and is nonrefundable for any reason.

Enrollment is limited and on a first-come, first-servebasis. A $25 registration fee per family and a 50percent tuition deposit must be included when youregister online. The deposit is refundable untilMay 1, 2010, less a $100 administrative fee.Full payment for all camps and/or classes is dueby June 1, 2010, and is nonrefundable for anyreason after that date. Campers will forfeit theirplace if payment is not received by this date.

CAMPER RESPONSIBILITIESCampers are expected to abide by the camp rulesand conduct themselves in a responsible manner.Failure to do so could result in the child’s dismissal.

Summer Explorations at Kent Place is not responsiblefor lost or stolen property. Campers should not bringvaluable items to camp.
