Summer Reading is A Blast!

How to encourage your kids to enjoy the printed word

Parents need to model.

Have you planned a library visit this summer?

Does your family enjoy free activities at the bookstores or library in your community?

Do you have a book club you belong to?

Do your kids see you read? Often?

Why encourage your child to read?

Reading builds knowledge, vocabulary, and is the foundation for all subjects.

• Students lose fluency over the summer if they do not read.

• Students are less likely to be or feel prepared when school begins in the fall if they do not read in the summer.

• Students may find varied interests or hobbies they did not know they liked if they read.

Breaking the technology habit is hard to do! You don’t have to unplug entirely, just set healthy limits.

Unplugging the technology is one way our family delights in books.
