SUMMER RIDINGEXPERIENCE

JULY 8 - AUGUST 2DAY AND RESIDENTIAL SESSIONS

Open to girls 8-16 years of age All riding abilities welcome

The Ethel Walker School’s SUMMER RIDING EXPERIENCE (SRE) is an extension of the School’s renowned equestrian program. SRE is a long-standing riding camp that was developed to make sure girls have fun, but also to become complete horsewomen. The camp consists of daily riding sessions complimented with activities that include horse care, working with farriers and veterinarians, equine science, and general equestrian knowledge.

OUR FACILITIES Situated on the School’s scenic campus, the Walker’s equestrian center includes a newly renovated barn, outdoor rings, an indoor ring with dust-free footing and newly upgraded lighting, four tack rooms, extensive turnouts for the horses and over 300 acres of trails through the woods.

OUR HORSESGirls can either ride one of the School’s horses or board their own. We have wonderful horses for riders of all levels. Girls are paired with horses best suited to their ability.

PROPER ATTIRE Girls will need to bring the following for lessons: riding breeches or jeans, comfortable t-shirts, boots with a 1/2 inch heel, and an ASTM-approved riding helmet.

RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM Campers must be 11 years old to board at camp. We have a rich residential program that is based on our academic year program, designed to foster community, lifelong friendships and help each girl feel comfortable. Our dining hall serves healthy meals during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Meals are a time for the entire summer community to come together, including girls participating in other summer programs. Evening activities include movie nights, game nights, trips into the local community, and swimming. For girls registering for more than one week of SRE, chaperoned weekend excursions to New York City, Boston, and Newport, Rhode Island are planned.

We hope to see you this summer! For more information, please contact Kathleen Battiston, Director of Riding, at [email protected] or (860) 408-4353

INSTRUCTION SRE is staffed by the same team that runs the School’s equestrian program. All are second and third generation horsewomen who are seasoned competitors and trainers. SRE campers of all ability levels are coached by the Walker’s team to become more complete equestrians, whether they are getting on a horse for the first time or are already accomplished riders. Additionally, girls from Walker’s equestrian team assist with SRE, giving campers a glimpse into the spirit and camaraderie of the School’s riding program.
