Join us for the summer adventure of alifetime! Summer at Sandy Spring is anACA-accredited camp that crafts amazingsummer experiences for kids age 3 upthrough 12th grade.

In 20 years we’ve learned a few things:

• Kids prefer swimming ponds to videogames.

• A side portion of academic enrichmenthelps them keep their minds in shape forSeptember.

• They would rather learn and run andlaugh than do almost anything else.

We build on that free spirit and creativeenergy, and that’s why kids love Summerat Sandy Spring. Our campers splash andplay in the swimming pond, experiment inart and performances, learn teamworkwhile rock climbing, and change

communities through service projects.Every program promotes teamwork, friendship, and most importantly, a safeenvironment to have fun!

We also design our programming withboth kids and parents in mind. Withextended hours, before- and after-campcare, daily transportation to and from avariety of DC and Baltimore metro arealocations and eclectic programming, finding an experience that suits your needsis easy!

Discover our 140 acres of possibilities onthe wooded campus of the Sandy SpringFriends School (SSFS) located in the heartof Montgomery County!

Summer camp is a be-loved tradition in many

families. Many parents ofyoung children fondly re-call spending their summersat summer camp, wherethey made lifelong friendsand learned the finer pointsof roasting marshmallowsand competing in three-legged sack races.

Parents looking for theright summer camp for theirkids will soon discoverthere are various types ofsummer camps, each offer-ing youngsters somethingdifferent. The following aresome of the summer campoptions parents can expectto encounter as they searchfor the right camper fortheir kids.

Day campDay camps are not over-

night camps, which meanskids will return home eachnight rather than sleepover at camp. Day campstypically offer many of theactivities people have cometo associate with camps, including crafts, sports andeven day-trips to experi-ence local culture or at-tractions. Many day campsare coed, and counselorstypically live within thecommunity.

Faith-based campFaith-based camps offer

many of the same activities

as more traditional summercamps, but do so whilesimultaneously offeringcampers the opportunity tocelebrate and further ex-plore their religious beliefs. Some faith-based campsmay focus heavily on re-ligion, incorporating faithinto daily camp activities, while others may be moresubtle with regard to inte-grating religious beliefs andlessons into camp activities.

Sports campsSome summer camps

focus on a particular sport, catering to young athleteswho want to further de-velop their athletic talents.Sports camps may featureguest lectures and lessonsfrom notable local ath-

letes and coaches, whilesome camps may provideinstruction from currentand/or former professionalathletes. Some sports campsare overnight, while othersare day camps.

Family campsFamily camps are op-

portunities for the wholefamily to enjoy the summercamp experience. Familycamps typically tailor theiractivities around tasks fam-ilies can complete together, with counselors provid-ing assistance when it’sneeded. Family camps maybe faith-based or secular, and families typically stayovernight, sleeping in facil-ities on the campsites or inlodging away from home.

Special needs campsParents of children with

special needs can still sendtheir kids to summer camp,as there are many campsthat cater to such young-sters. Special needs campsmay cater to campers whoare blind, deaf, learningdisabled, or mentally orphysically disabled. Staffat special needs campstypically undergoes exten-sive training, which helpsto calm some of the fearsparents may have aboutleaving their special needschildren at camp. Facilitiesat special needs camps areoften built to accommo-date the specific needs ofcampers.
